if ScrapYard ever does limited/special runs, they could stamp matching ser. numbers on the knives and tags, along with the original owner's name...

Re: more on dog tags: - 10/03/06 01:29 AM

I would love to know how many hands a few Busses have seen. Give serial numbers with the knife, then do an online tracking service, register when you get it and whoever gets it after you. It would be interesting!

Re: more on dog tags: - 10/03/06 01:30 AM

I know a few have been around the world!

Re: more on dog tags: - 10/03/06 01:36 AM

Serial numbers would be a great idea for LE's, folks could post threads saying who has/had what. Nice idea guys!

Re: more on dog tags: - 10/03/06 04:55 AM

Serial numbers would also be useful if your knife were ever stolen too. I know there have been a few people that have had Busses/Rats stolen.

Good point Andy!

Re: more on dog tags: - 10/03/06 05:45 AM

And since most of us stay in contact on the forums, it would probably be harder to sell a stolen knife. If your knife were stolen, you could just report it here along with the number, and then everyone could be on the lookout if someone tries to sell that knife with that serial number.

Re: more on dog tags: - 10/03/06 06:53 AM

Andy, if serial numbers should come to be a reality, we will appoint you to investigate cases of knives for sale. With your intel gathering ability you would be the perfect choice! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Re: more on dog tags: - 10/05/06 12:46 AM

If we and 'Blade forums' were on the lookout for nicked 'serialed' knives that would kill the market pretty much! Good thinking Andy!

Re: more on dog tags: - 10/07/06 12:08 AM

I had'nt thought of using the serial numbers to i.d.stolen knives,or as a means to track the history of ownership;good thinkin'!I'd be willing to pay extra if that was offered as an option. In the event ScrapYard finds the serial number/dog tag idea a no-go,maybe someone who's set up for it could offer that as a customising option?Would'nt take much to rig up a press to stamp out aluminium tags, and there are several options for marking knives...

Re: more on dog tags: - 10/07/06 12:24 AM

It would be kind of nice to have ownership registered against people. Wilkinson Sword (knife company) used to do that before they 'went bump', knives should have provenance and have 'a history'.

Re: more on dog tags: - 10/07/06 12:36 AM

be kinda cool to think that yer blade could be on a Antiques Roadshow in the year 2275..."recently discovered in an ancient basement of what seems to have been a repository for discarded and recycled materials, located in a barren wasteland surrounded by the remains of what the experts tell us were a species of hulking,predetary,bi-pedal canines..."

Re: more on dog tags: - 10/07/06 07:02 AM

Yeah, and it would be cool if there were a database or something where you could look up who all the previous owners were.

Re: more on dog tags: - 11/08/06 04:56 PM

Well we should impliment the idea...outsource if need be....with approval of course, and get our Dogs some IDs!

Re: more on dog tags: - 11/09/06 02:34 AM

I suppose retrospectively we could use the invoice number as a serial and add a,b,c etc on orders of multiple knives... just a thought.
Posted By: Gravelface

Re: more on dog tags: - 11/09/06 04:49 AM

Good call, that would certainly help in tracking the original owner of the knife. This could be a great little idea!

Re: more on dog tags: - 11/10/06 02:00 AM

Thanks! It was kind of spontaneous on seeing the posts in the thread but instantly struck me as a pretty good idea (plus Patti knows who ordered what!) these knives 'deserve' serial numbers as they are a bit 'underground cult'.
