My Plans For Today

I've taken vacation starting today. My mother left her dogs inside because it was quite wet this morning, and asked that I go over to her house and let them out. Other than that, this day is intended to be free so that nothing interferes with preparing to shop for knives this evening.

I have a list 13 people who have requested knives -- for the most part, the number of knives that people have requested has been small, which is a good thing for keeping things straight. When I get back from Mom's house, I intend to post the list, so that if I've missed anything, you can let me know. Anyone who doesn't want their request posted -- I don't see anything to be ashamed of, but sometimes people are just private -- let me know within the next half-hour.

Basically, unless I get motivated enough to fill out my taxes (which I currently plan to put off until Sunday) I've got a couple of taped shows and daytime TV to hold my attention. That's why I expect to leave my house by 4:00, even though that probably leaves me sitting in the parking lot for a couple hours (Note to self: remember to take a book). Last Fall, since I was there so early, I helped the crew unload their truck. Since that's my purpose for this day, I'd rather be early than late because of road construction or some other traffic issue, so consider me no longer reachable online by 3:30 EST.

Re: Need proxy for knob creek... - 04/08/10 08:55 PM

Nobody's objected to having their requests posted, and I'm later than I expected getting around to it, so here I go, in more or the less the order I received requests in:

1) myketheknife (has made arrangements for Busse to charge him and to ship), wants 2 knives, not duplicates from:
A) Scrap Muk
B) Wiener Dog
C) Mud Puppy
also wants me to call him about a couple others.

2) fastcamo:
A) Scrap Muk
B) Rat Mastiff (not chopwieller)

3) damon:
A) Wiener Dog

4) Silverback:
A) Scrap Muk

5) darkaether:
A) hand-shaped NMSFNO
B) satin-finish SJTAC -- I assume since you have a CG SJTAC, that's what you want, not to include a BOSS Jack as an alternate
C) SARsquatch
D) Vex (especially green linen)

6) KENKEN (has made arrangements for Busse to charge him and to ship):
A) NMFBM, prefer black Micarta/black blade, but will accept alternate color combos

7) sumoj275:
A) Regulator LE
B) DFLE

8) lazi:
A) Scrap Muk

9) rainwalker (has made arrangements for Busse to charge him and to ship):
A) BOSS Jack (prefer Choiless)

10) Private Klink (has made arrangements for Busse to charge him and to ship):
A) Regulator LE
B) BOSS Jack (prefer Choiless, followed by large, then small choil)
C) Terror Monkey DSF

11) md02geist (has made arrangements for Busse to charge him and to ship):
A) Regulator LE
B) Possibly, Terror Monkey DSF
wants a call before committing on the Terror Monkey.

12) RN:
A) Scrap Muk

13) RAISIN-CAIN:
A) Dog Father

I know that some of these are unlikely to be available, but if they are, I'll do what I can. As I wrote yesterday, it's hard to describe how chaotic these things can be -- last Fall people were gathered around crew members in different parts of the suite, and they were reaching for knives as they were being pulled from the boxes -- several never even got set down. Many knives were set down and made it all the way through the evening, but as for others, if you weren't standing beside the right box when it was being being unpacked, you never even saw them until pictures of were posted by the folks who snatched them. You get first pick the night before, but I'll be far from alone up there when picking. Considering that five people have requested Muks, I hope that they have a lot more than the one I saw on the wall.

Since I'm late posting this, I'll stick around for another hour checking the board -- let me know if I'm wrong about what you asked for. There were a lot of requests and I usually only keep two message slots free, so I had to delete most messages after making notes on paper to clear the way for more incoming.

Re: Need proxy for knob creek... - 04/09/10 08:46 AM

Hi all; first for the disappointing news, there were no Wiener Dogs, and while I was told there was one Scrap Muk, someone else must have gotten there first because I never saw it. They had Chopwielers, but no Mastiffs (hope springs eternal), there were also no DFLEs, although there were Dog Fathers in tanker gray and tan. So, many people got left out in the cold, but I was able to score some things:

1) myketheknife, as Myke noted, I was able to arrange a Mud Puppy -- Busse Combat will bill him and ship the knife to him.

2) fastcamo: Sorry

3) damon: Also sorry.

4) Silverback: Failing to be able to fill a request is one of the more frustrating aspects of attempting to proxy; sorry.

5) darkaether:
I was able to get a hand-shaped Micarta NMSFNO -- they also had a nice black/tan hand-shaped G10 handled NMSFNO, but the difference in appearance wouldn't have been worth the extra $60 to me and I liked the way the canvas Micarta felt better, so that's what I chose. They had multiple satin-finish SJTACs, and I wasn't sure which handles I liked best, so I moved along to the next table (where I found the NMSFNO and a SARsquatch) while I considered it -- by the time I turned around to look again, all the satin SJTACs were gone.

Funny thing about that SARsquatch; last show I specifically remember Garth saying that those were the last of the SARsquatch blanks, so I didn't think there was any chance they'd have one -- it just goes to show you.

They only had one Vex and it was a custom ground blade, similar to one Jeff Forbush landed at the last show, that I wanted for myself -- if they'd had any more Vexes, I'd have been able to get you one. Sorry about that and dropping the ball on a SJTAC, but I think you'll really like the NMSFNO and SARsquatch.

6) KENKEN: I wasn't able to get a NMFBM; I'm told that there were two, both with sandstorm G10 handles and that the same guy grabbed them both, but I never actually saw them. They would have been on the same table with darkaether's NMSFNO and SARsquatch. Sorry that I didn't get there sooner, but I was grabbing other stuff along the way. I called, and (as we discussed) Busse Combat will be processing a Tanker gray Dog Father order for you.

7) sumoj275: I got you a Regulator LE

8) lazi: Sorry, no Muks

9) rainwalker: They filled out paperwork to have a Choiless BOSS Jack sent to you. The deal with BOSS Jacks is that the three prototypes were brought to Knob Creek, but they are not for sale. They are taking orders for them -- if I'd bought one for myself, I'd have needed to pay a $40 down-payment, but they didn't make me do that for yours -- I don't know details of how they'll process the payment, but the paperwork was filled out and they'll get in touch with you.

10) Private Klink: Same deal as Jeff -- your paperwork was filled out by Stewart and the order will be processed by the shop.

11) md02geist: Stewart filled out an order over the phone.

12) RN: One more time, sorry, no Muks

13) RAISIN-CAIN: Dog Father -- I prefer Tanker over Tan, so that's what I got for you.

For those interested, and/or may be having someone else proxy for them, there are some "Show Specials"; they normally do that sort of thing at Blade, but I don't recall ever seeing them at Knob Creek. They are:

Terror Monkey BOSS Street: normally, $227 / KC show price, $197
Terror Monkey Desert Storm Fighter: normally, $257 / KC show price, $237
BOSS Jacks: normally, $317 / KC show price, $277
Competition finish BWM: normally, $387 / KC show price, $347
Regulator LE: normally, $139.95 / KC show price, $129.95

Some of the "Show Special" knife quantities are quite low (for instance, I got their last Competition finish BWM). If/when they run out of those knives, they'll take orders with a down payment, as with the BOSS Jack orders. They'll also be doing another 'ganza soon, although you'll obviously get better prices from Knob Creek if you can swing it.

I've never seen knives sell so quickly -- I honestly think that they may have sold half their stock tonight. Excluding the orders that the Busse Combat is processing per prior arrangements, my bill was just over $3200, and I saw a couple people spend more than twice as much as me. Of that, an NMSFNO, a SARsquatch, a Regulator LE and a Dog Father are for other people, but that still leaves a lot of that on me. I need to review my bill, drink some alka-seltzer, and go to bed. I'll check back in tomorrow.

Re: Need proxy for knob creek... - 04/09/10 08:47 PM

It was a late night for me, so I got a late start today. I'll need to go to the Post office to determine general shipping/insurance prices, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to get there today. Also, and I hope that this is tolerated, though a violation of the "for sale" rule. While they didn't have any Wiener Dogs, and I didn't get "the" Scrap Muk, they did have a few MPLEs. I set the highest numbered one aside for myketheknife, not in disregard to him, but because I consider the ones associated with existing JYD#s to be a bit problematic.

Here's what I'm proposing:
The numbers I bought: JYD associated with them are:
#89: Simon,
#96: sigfest,
#101: mpalmer1000, and
#105: SkunkHunter

While part of me wants to just keep them (after all, they aren't making any more MPLEs), I'm inclined to give a right of first refusal to those JYDs -- they may "claim" their numbered blade for my cost ($79.95 + $5.60 KY sales tax + shipping/insurance/tracking to them).

If any MPLEs pass the first step unclaimed, then I will offer them to the people who got shut-out on Muks (in number order of my choosing because I think 101 and 105 are "cool" numbers, and would prefer to keep them if unclaimed through step 2). MPLEs are a totally different knife than the Scrap Muk, but on the other hand, it's a 154CM Scrap Yard blade with a mudder handle.

I still haven't eaten yet today -- I need to do so because I'm supposed to take meds with food. More to follow.

It was the first of the 154CM knives from Scrap Yard, released at Blade '08. MPLEs aren't on the knives page because there weren't enough of them to ever be released as a store offering.

Re: Need proxy for knob creek... - 04/10/10 06:00 AM

I had hoped to take and post pictures of what I bought, and to figure out postage/insurance/tracking costs to pass along. However, I had a family matter to attend to -- no need to get bogged down in details, but you've got to help family when they need it, so that didn't get done.

For the folks who I need to ship to, I'll probably ask that you send payment first. I will require tracking, if for no other reason than to prove that I sent something: I would also strongly encourage insurance, although as long as I get the money up-front, that's your decision. Of course, you can't send payment until I determine how much shipping will be and let you know, so that ball's in my court.

I sent PMs to the MPLE JYDs and have given through the weekend to claim their numbers -- they're supposed to post in this thread so that people will know what's up. If any remain unclaimed on Monday, I'll start contacting Muk folks in the order that they were on my list.

OK, I finally got around to taking pictures of my recently purchased knives. I'll start with proxy blades:

Here are the MPLEs; my original intent was not for them to be proxies, but since Tom hooked me up with MPLEs at Blade '08, and these both had allocated JYDs and I couldn't fill Muk requests, I decided to offer them to those folks as described earlier:

We all know what a Dog Father looks like, but here's one for RAISIN-CAIN anyway:

I included one of my Deregulators in this picture of a Regulator LE for sumoj275:

Nice pics and a great proxy. I must say I am liking the RegLE more and more.

Re: Need proxy for knob creek... - 04/10/10 11:04 PM

Now for my own haul -- I went a bit overboard on Swamp Rat this show, but they had RMDs and HRLMs in Bama Clay (even if it is the new "rough" finish instead of the older type that was like Moss):
[Linked Image from i202.photobucket.com]

Since Eric and I were both going to be there, he was kind enough to hand deliver my Ratganza order, so while not actually "Knob Creek" knives, that's where I got them:

Plus five Swamp Wardens, 3 Tankers and 2 Moss

And here's a Tanker Gray Swamp Warden in hand:

Re: Need proxy for knob creek... - 04/10/10 11:23 PM

My big knife for the night was a Competition Finished BWM -- it was so nice that I was tempted to buy three, but they only had one left at the show (somebody had been walking around with it and put it back on the table) and I already have six CG BWMs, I just bought it:
[Linked Image from i202.photobucket.com]

I also bought myself another Dog Father -- I sold one more than I'd intended to a while back, and this one will replace it. One of my Deregulators makes a second appearance (for scale) along with one of my two Urban Grudges and a Wiener Dog.
[Linked Image from i202.photobucket.com]

The Urban Grudge handles were a bit thicker than I'd anticipated, but they've grown on me -- it's a truly exquisite model that I'm very glad to have gotten in on. Here's a picture of it in-hand:
[Linked Image from i202.photobucket.com]

And last, but not least, the custom Vex (center) along with a standard green linen Vex from the late July 2009 Lardoganza (top) and a Dumpster Mutt (bottom). I loved the Vex with a thumb notch that Jeff Forbush got last Fall, and resolved that if I ever saw another, I'd grab it:

WOW! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> That's quite a haul Jim!!! I hope that folks quickly pay you for their proxied blades -- you must have spent a small fortune!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> And again, thanks for helping out so many fellow Dogs, including myself! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Re: Need proxy for knob creek... - 04/11/10 12:12 AM

I haven't gone through the materials that the post office gave me yesterday to estimate shipping. The proxy total on my card (not counting MPLEs, since I don't know if they're all going to be claimed -- I suspect they will, but can't be certain) was $1009.97.

My personal Knob Creek haul was $2190.56. My adjusted Swamp Rat order with Eric was $1366.35. Scrap Yard Deregulators and sheaths came to $594.45 and the Shamruckoganza hit was $901.35. All in all, this was a very expensive couple months for the steel addicted.

By the way, a few people other than the MPLE JYDs and people I was proxying Muks for have expressed interest in any potentially left over MPLEs. I offered them to the JYDs because that just seems to be the right thing to do, and will offer any remaining to Muk folks to try to make up for not scoring for them. Other than them, my intent is to keep any not claimed -- initially, I bought them for myself. One of the things I say very often is that it never hurts to ask, so I'm not angry that y'all asked, and I hope no hard feelings on your end for me declining.

Re: Need proxy for knob creek... - 04/11/10 09:17 AM

Jim: Thank you ever so much for your kind offer of the #105 MPLE! I really want one but I am regretfully going to have to pass. I have worried and fretted and thought and changed my mind numerous times since you sent me a PM. But Today (saturday actually) at church made me have to go with the Weiner dog that lazi has offered me. We are going to have Bible school again and are going to need "props". Long story short, about 4 years ago I cut up 5 4ft by 8ft sheets of 1 inch thick insulation board. My wife and I projected the Outline of undersea critters on the boards, drew around them and then I cut out about 150 fish, octopus scuba divers and a couple dolphins by hand with a knife! It was time consuming yet fun. Well I am gonna have to cut out some stuff again this year and decided the Weiner Dog would work really good for this and It would not need to be sharpened every 4-5 fish as the fillet knife was.

So, once again, thank you very much for your offer but I can't get both knives and the WD will be the most useful for me, at least initially and hopefully I won't regret not getting the MP to much.

Thank You

Randy

And again, this offer of Jims just once again proves this is the best bunch of folks on the best forum on the net!

Re: Need proxy for knob creek... - 04/11/10 12:46 PM

Gentlemen

Please I need your help. I live in Central Europe so I can't go to Knob Creek to order a knife. I want only one knife: BOSS Jack without choil.

I tried to ask for Proxy on bladeforums, but had no luck.

I heard that to order one BOSS Jack you have to deposit $40.

PLEASE! Would somebody proxy for me. I can send you the money via PayPal right now. Just tell me how much do I have to send so you'll receive the full amount.

Or tell me any other conditions...

I'll try to repay you somehow, if I could.

Re: Need proxy for knob creek... - 04/11/10 09:37 PM

Sorry, Newazzkikr; if nobody's responded by now I think you'll have to try the Spring KnoboGanzaaaaaa route because the show ends in about 20 minutes and depending on where you're parked, hiking down to the range may take longer than that. (http://machinegunshoot.com/pdf/2010_machine_gun_shoot_schedule.pdf). I don't know if the Busse Combat will continue to allow people to pre-arange payment, or if they'll formally state the rules, but that made proxying for those who did it much easier. The rules seemed to be:

1) You need to have placed an order with Busse Combat or set up an account with them so that they have your contact and payment information on-file.

2) Busse Combat employees are not allowed to proxy for you; they need to be free to maintain order at the tables.

3) If an attendee has agreed to proxy for you, and they can find the knives you want, all they need to do is hand those knives to the person who is checking folks out along with your contact information.

4) They fill out an invoice with the customer's contact info, and put it off to the side along with the knives your proxy gathered. I don't know if it was an error on their part, but if I'd wanted to pre-order knives for myself, I'd have had to pay a $40 deposit per knife, but I did not have to pay any out-of-pocket deposit for the people who'd made pre-arrangements.

5) Once they get back to the shop, those invoices will be processed and the associated knives sent out.

It takes extra time for the Busse Crew to do this, part of which seemed to be that the instructions were either told or understood differently from one person to the next. However, just in terms of additional paperwork, keeping reserved knives organized, and shipping individual orders, it's definitely more work for them. It makes proxying easier, which may generate more sales, but I don't know where the tipping point between extra sales and additional work is, so say "thank you" when dealing with the crew and we'll hope that/see if the practice continues.

Thanks for the info.

Yea, I'll try Ganza, but I want BOSS Jack so much...

Actually, BOSS Jacks are just about to be produced so I hope the number wont be too limited. I can't even think that I would miss this one especially if I got some cash ready for it.

Re: Need proxy for knob creek... - 04/12/10 02:57 AM

For the folks who I currently have knives to send to, I need your addresses to more accurately determine priority mail postal zones:
RAISIN-CAIN, your profile says Jacksonville, Florida, which would be a zone 4 from me.

sumoj275, OK is either zone 4 or 5 depending on where you are in the state.

darkaether, when we dealt before, my archive indicates you were in NC, now you're profile says VA; most of VA is zone 4.

I don't have a scale handy, but I'd estimate maybe a packed weight of 4 pounds on the Dog Father, less for the Regulator and more on the NMSFNO + SARsquatch. It appears that Delivery Confirmation will add about a buck (80 cents) and insurance rates are listed on: http://www.usps.com/prices/insurance-prices.htm. You can choose whether or not to buy insurance; I'd recommend it, although the only time I've ever needed it was for items much more fragile than knives.

The Dog father was $139.95 + $9.73 KY sales tax / the Reg LE was $129.95 + $9.10 sales tax; taxes pretty much eat up the show special on that one, don't they?

darkaether, I need to send you a PM about yours -- nothing wrong, I'm still trying to decide whether or not to offer up a green linen Vex because I took the only Vex they had at the show for myself.

It can be tough alright! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> I was just plain lucky in the last Ganza, and just like Rainwalker checked the site at the half-hour and SCORED! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Usually the site is so over-whelmed that you have to wait for the emergency plan of 9:55 PM, but I guess Jerry was having fun! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Re: Need proxy for knob creek... - 04/12/10 02:13 PM

I just hope I have the discipline to keep the money long enough to find a proxy for Blade. That's really my only grail knife right now. Been thinning out the herd (pack) to my last 2 favorite Scrap Yard knives. The Dogfather is the only one I'm missing. I sold my old Trailmaster to get the funds for one.

Re: Need proxy for knob creek... - 04/12/10 02:25 PM

I can proxy for you at Blade, so no worries there. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> The only question is whether there will be any DogFathers at the show. I hope Dan gives us a good idea prior to Blade as to what will be there! I have bought so much steel lately - for ME at least - that I don't expect to buy too much at blade, but you just never know! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
