Lurker, de-regulators, and lots of questions!! - 08/16/10 05:41 AM
Hello all, after literally years of lurking, I decided it was time to make an account, and, my dad ordered 2 De-regulators (and I think a Regulator too, to see which he likes more and then sell the one he doesnt like). This brings me to my first question.
The order was placed less than 1 week ago. How long should I expect it to take before the knives ship?
Before coming to live in Iowa, (been here for about 1 month), I lived in Las Vegas for about 8 years. Las Vegas is hot, hot, HOT. This brings me to my second question. How well does Resiprene-C hold up to high heat? Think 120 degrees, or maybe even more, and for VERY prolonged periods of time. Also, what about freezing temperatures? And any other enviornmental factors I should be concerned about? My dad had a knife a while back, with a handle made out of something "rubbery", and the handle got soft in the heat and started rotating on the tang and bunching up- is this an issue with the De-regs? I saw a picture of the tangs on the De-regs, and I really expected something wider. Do you think the tangs are wide enough to prevent rotational movement of the handles?
How good is the choil on the De-regs? How efficient is the grind, for cutting? Seems a little to thick, but IDK- any help would be appreciated. The lanyard pin, does it serve to keep the handle attached to the res-c?
Does the tip look like it could snap?
Are there any good sheath makers who are making reg/de-reg sheaths around?
And finally, I plan to use this knife for bushcraft- what bushcraft tasks do you think this knife can accomplish (and how well?)
Thanks in advance,
Chris
(PS: I am trying to find as much info on SR-101 as I can... any help here would be greatly appreciated.)
