The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead - 10/29/10 12:15 PM

Now we know why Dan's blades play such an integral role.

Don't let them bite or scratch you, and if you want to kill them, aim for the head. Preferably with a shovel, because a gunshot calls them like a dinner bell.

I took this from an article in USA TODAY "AMC'S Gory 'Walking Dead" is one killer of a zombie show.

And it can be found here:

Yes! And not just the best zombie material out there, but the best COMIC ever! I highly suggesting picking up the Volume (compilation of the comics) at barnes and nobles/borders.

Their diet goes against everything I thought I knew about what zombies eat. It was my understanding that they ate BRAINS. Now I feel like I know absolutely nothing about our enemy.

Re: The Walking Dead - 11/02/10 04:56 AM

Like they said in Zombieland, when someone contracts the virus, it makes them angry, hateful, adrenaline fueled, and gives them a really bad case of the munchies. Zombies aren't neccessarily the walking dead, they're just people that are infected with a virus that screws them up hard. They still need to ingest calories to prevent starvation. Now, the walking dead type zombie, I'm not so sure about, but I'm pretty sure brains is thier favorite food, though not for sustaining life, so to speak.

Re: The Walking Dead - 11/03/10 10:28 AM

In the Zombie Survival Guide it is inferred that a zombie can sense the presence of the solanum virus (zombie virus)in another zombie so they won't eat each other.
Zombies do prefer to eat human flesh, however according to the guide they will eat the meat of any animal.

Re: The Walking Dead - 11/03/10 10:34 AM

Wait one last thing, I may have told this story before.
5 years ago when I turned 40 my daughters (then 15 & 16) bought me a Zombie Survival Kit.
It was a paper bag with ZOMBIE SURVIVAL KIT written on the side in black. Inside was a box of rock salt, a large U shaped darning needle and twine (for traditional voodoo zombies you can prevent them from rising by filling their mouth with salt and sewing it shut)ALSO included in the kit was a machete for loping off heads.

I still have the kit, one of my all time favorite gifts

Ok, it's official. Here are the numbers from USA TODAY, 11-3-2010 electronic edition.
THE WALKING DEAD IS A HIT!
Zombie hit. The opener of AMC's The Walking Dead averaged 5.3 million viewers Sunday, an original-series network record that more than doubles the typical audience of Mad Men.

Vic - I never watched the Rubicon series. What was it about?

The fictional American Policy Institute was an intelligence think tank assisting CIA, FBI and other agencies in the war on terror. But "accidents" and suicides among some top API analysts leads one analyst there to suspect that API itself is covering up its own involvement in terror attacks. Rubicon is the story of his investigation into API itself. The analyst begins to wonder who he really works for. It seems that wealthy investors use API intel to make money from terrorist events, and that API itself is involved in making sure these attacks get some help and that cover stories are fed to the intel agencies. Good stuff. The last episode is a huge intelligence failure that API misses because its top people actually serve a mysterious group of investors and feed false leads to API. And the bogus bad guys get the blame. Good acting, interesting characters and a lot of twists in the plot. I loved the series. It required following a lot of details as the series built to the climax. Totally different from most spy movies and much more like actual intelligence operations.

Last episode of The Walking Dead. He's stuck in a tank, surrounded by zombies.

Re: The Walking Dead - 11/08/10 03:40 AM

It was supposed to be an American M1A1....it was sort of close on the outside but not anywhere close on the inside.....oh and the main guy would have been screwed if it the tank was accurate. There is no hatch on the bottom....that last American tank that had a hatch like that was the M60 series.....but it looks TOTALLY different that a M1A.

I wouldn't know one tank from another.

and am I the only one who had to come up with scenarios where a guy in a tank could become a zombie? I came up with a couple... ready for the next episode!

OK you crazy zombie lovers. I endured about 5 minutes of the nonsense. The Walking Dead will no doubt be much more popular than the Rubicon series was. But Rubicon scares me a lot more, because there is some truth in it. It was a great series, and I hope AMC brings it back. We now return you to your regularly scheduled Zombie Fest!

I'm thinking that I should volunteer my kids to this show. The first episode looked a lot like it does around my house in the morning before the kids leave for school.

I am sure if a zombie walked into the local high school before 11:00 in the morning that no one would notice or be able to tell the difference LOL

Ever see the Zombie shoppers on a Saturday at Walmart? I swear, many of them look like they are in a trance, just putting stuff in their carts. But I just never got into the zombie genre. But just in case, I have a shotgun and a Waki. Those of us who got into AMC's Rubicon loved it, but it lacks the pure action of the Walking Dead.

Tankers hate Nazi WWII flicks, too. Hard to round up a herd of King Tiger tanks nowadays. Just paint up some old M48s or M60s with German markings. Most folks can't tell a self-propelled gun or an armored personnel carrier from a tank.

ive had a moment or two that felt something like the grocery store scene from zombieland. you are walking through the grocery store and there's some guy center of the isle starring at something. You say "Excuse me..." Guy looks up slowly and then grunts... Moves 1/2" to one side and goes back to starring at whatever it was. "Excuse me man, I don't wan to bump you!" Grunt, moan and moves just enough to make it uncomfortable to pass.

feels very much like a zombie encounter.

I don't know, and Dad never did figure out how, but once back in the 60's we were vacation and were going through Louisiana and mysteriously wound up in New Orleans on back roads. We FINALLY saw daylight when we ran up on a Police station (maybe the main one, it was BIG). Anyway got directions out of there real quick. It was of course after dark, in the late late hours. I know. I am just a grumpy old man. I never cared about horror movies of any kind since about the 4th grade. For years I would not even read fiction. I mean, if you know it isn't real, why waste your time reading it? Later I learned that there is much truth in fiction and plenty of lies in non-fiction.

But AMC really ticked me off cancelling Rubicon, a really good series, and replacing it with Zombies. I had come to expect more from AMC. Now they are like the rest of the channels. Maybe if I get drunk on Sunday nights the Walking Dead will seem better. God forbid they keep a series that required an attention span of over thirty seconds by the viewer.

I kept wanting to like Rubicon, but between a slow pace and so many characters that I just didn't care about, I just couldn't. I didn't even dislike many of the characters enough to want to see bad things happen to them, but felt like I'd keep glancing at my watch if I was in the same room with them.

I hate there short run shows, that give you just enough time to get a little interested, and then you either have to wait a year for more or they canel them all together. One of the regular channels canceled a show right in the middle of a "to be continued" episode a few years back, I was really steamed, Thanksfully I finally got to see the rest on DVD eventually.

The pace was very slow at first, but it picked up in last three episodes. For those accustomed to James Bond type action spy flicks, it was subtle and boring. But the series is the first one I have seen that accurately portrayed the nitty gritty of intelligence work. The main villian, Truxton Spangler, head of API, was quite a character. It was a totally different kind of entertainment than Walking Dead, and obviously did not appeal to the masses much. It has been cancelled. But I loved it. Obviously my tastes in entertainment are as non mainstream as I am.

I have to admit that while I found Rubicon interesting and entertaining, I did get lost a few times watching it. I rarely ever just watch TV, I'm usually working, steping in and out of the shop, and so on, so if something is slow or real detailed, I miss stuff sometimes. With The Walking Dead, I can work and be entertained without having to give the tube 100% of my attention.

Now as for Walmart... Talking about Scary!!! I steer clear of that place as much as I can!!!

Re: The Walking Dead - 11/17/10 01:11 AM

well I was a little disappointed that the walking dead played so heavy into the whole stereotype thing. but hey that's tv for you. with such a short run they needed to create dynamics.

never watched much AMC and never caught Rubicon.

And I will say this about WombieMart... Just like all the zombies go in at certain times all the hotness will be in there all at one time. Just they have hotness lives to go live so they aren't hanging around clogging up the isles. I mustve gone in there right after a hotness payday or something. Felt like every isle was heading me to the wedding isle!

Re: The Walking Dead - 11/21/10 06:54 AM

So, another episode coming up tomorrow, looking forward to it.

While its a very entertaining show, I can't get over how dumb these people are (a fellow zombie preparedness'ist and myself have discussed this at length ) :

1. You have a hacksaw, the zombies are kind of unable to get to you, do you really take off your hand or the bolt that you're cuffed to?

2. Tents. Really?

3. You know they are attracted to loud noises, yet you don't pull over to yank the car alarm once its beyond useful (you'd think you would do it just because of the noise.)

4. Old RV or new cargo van that can safely hold a lot of people.. Which do you choose?

5. You drive your cargo van into town, you plan on taking it back to camp. Do you really leave it with the back wide open?

Despite the people's cringeworthy foolishness, its entertaining, I'll definitely catch tomorrow's episode

Re: The Walking Dead - 11/21/10 06:56 AM

Let me add some more:

6. You act like tools are scarce and you can't just find a Lowes to plunder.

7. Same goes for your [censored] radiator hose on your crappy old RV.

8. You fool around in water that could be infested with zombies who don't need to breathe.

yea, lets hacksaw our arm off, instead of the mild steel bolt on the HVAC piping.....\\

Yeah, if there is anything I hate, it's an unrealistic zombie show. Those fools at AMC should have come here for real zombie expertise and practical escape techniques.

Re: The Walking Dead - 11/23/10 07:32 AM

they said the saw was too dull to work on the bolt, in that guys mind they were about to break through that door so removal of the hand would have been fastest to make an escape.

i guess i understand the cargo van b.c as far as they knew, there was no one else alive and leaving the van open would make it easy to see if anything managed to get inside...would i do it? i dont know, it kinda of makes sense too if youre being chased and everyone needs to pile in quickly.

With all the chaos that went on in the city, im sure most stores were plundered already and risking a trip into the city might not be worth the trouble...checking out the huge line of broken down vehicles on the highway is a different story...

Re: The Walking Dead - 11/23/10 07:34 AM

other points like the tents and car alarm are perfectly valid and i thought about that too...but those last couple kinda make sense

They said the saw was too dull to take care of the cuffs, not the bolt. As far as the van, you come back, everyone piles in, then discover about 15 zombies found their way inside

Vic, sorry, I know its unrealistic to begin with, but given the situation was actually real, it wouldn't hurt to use some common sense?

I think its fun to pick apart these things, sorry all, no harm meant, the show is really entertaining though.

with the van door open you can clearly see inside...?

lol i love doing that

Re: The Walking Dead - 11/23/10 07:41 AM

if the van door was closed then you pile in and the back is dark, then youre zombie food

LOL. I'm cool with it, monsterdog. I do the same thing with Rambo movies. Like shooting a LAW inside a helicopter. The backblast would have roasted the POWs.
But I still watch the silly things.

I just started watching this show. It was very sweet seeing a Bussekin knife on the show .

Re: The Walking Dead - 12/01/10 11:23 PM

Well it looks like we have one more episode and at least two season from the sound of it. I am enjoying the series and think it is kinda funny at times.

Re: The Walking Dead - 12/04/10 01:59 PM

Well I caught the episode where the camp got attacked and they got to the CDC. Still missed the one where the Bussekin was in it. Oh well I guess I'll live, unhappily.

Re: The Walking Dead - 12/06/10 07:45 AM

Good God. Now I am watching zombie movies and even NFL football. I blame you zombie-loving dogs for this! This is sure proof of the deterioration of the brain in the elderly. I can't wait until the CDC blows up and ends this nightmare! At least I have the approved S&W .357 Magnum and a Waki nearby.

Wow, I just finished to episode and thought it was great. I know what the doc said, or at least I think I do. Not going to be good when the two sheriffs have a sit-n-talk.

I enjoyed the series, even when they were making basic and fundamental mistakes.

CDC done got blowed up! Now we all gonna get sick and die and nobody gonna know whats causin it or how to stop it. Good bye cruel world......

I enjoyed that show. It has potential.

Just watched this little gem and was completely entertained for a brief 22 minutes (sorry the name is not appropriate here, but it's not too offensive). If you like adult anime or just some good ole war action, check this out.

So when is the next season slated to start. I hope they don't wait too long as the series is riding high right now.

Re: The Walking Dead - 12/07/10 08:04 PM

OH MAN! CS1 is great. They were animations but it was very well done. I remember watching anime in Japan while I was there '87-91. They've got a LOT better. You hear of anymore of those clips, be sure and let us know!

Re: The Walking Dead - 12/07/10 08:26 PM

Will do. The translation/subtitles for CS1 is better int the HD download. You can find the link in the comments on the link I posted above.

Something about mercenary bunnies fighting insurgent camels just feels right.

I've enjoyed the Walking Dead and I'm really looking forward to it's eventual return. It's far from a perfect show, but it has certainly been entertaining.
