Scrapivore LE. . . Specs & Big News!!!

Scrapivore LE. . . Specs & Big News!!! - 11/10/10 02:26 AM

We've decided to bring something very special to the Yard with the new Scrapivore LE. We have pushed the performance envelope for edge holding and wear resistance to an entirely new level.

The Scrapivore LE is designed to be a "cutter" of the highest order. By pouring a full gallon of Rebel Yell bourbon into the quenching oil we have managed to raise the Rockwell Hardness on this SR-101 model to an astounding 62–64 Rc.!!!! The Scrapivore LE will feature a blended Zero-Edge geometry. Couple this with the highest hardness of any SR-101 model to date and you have the ultimate slicer! The beveled end of the handle is designed for prying small items such as paint can lids, ammo containers, beer tabs, large box staples, etc. . .

If you plan on using your Scrapivore for more abusive types of work such as batoning, point prying, etc., we suggest you consider the Scrapivore Combat Grade (Coming Soon). With a slightly thicker blade and a much more rough and tumble hardness of 58-60 Rc, the Combat Grade Scrapivore is ready to handle anything you can bring its way.

Long live Scrap Yard's unparalleled performance to price ratio!!!

Dan

Re: Scrapivore LE. . . Specs & Big News!!! - 11/20/10 07:07 AM

Wow Gnarly, you must have flown an Apache at some point?

A little background, the HUD for a Longbow Apache is helmet mounted, so eventually one eye learns to focus seperately from the other, so a pilot can usually fly and read at the same time. True story, a pilot who transferred into my unit from an Attack Helo unit was bet by his wife he couldn't read two books at once. Crazy thing is he could.

I can't wait for the CG 'Vore! I have a ton of Para-cord waiting to be wrapped on an awesome new knife!

Re: Scrapivore LE. . . Specs & Big News!!! - 11/20/10 09:22 PM

I may have missed it, but is the Scrapivore LE in the store picture considered a right or left handled model? My instinct would be to have the pommel bevel be up with the blade spine against my right palm, which would be the opposite of the one pictured:

[Linked Image from scrapyardknives.com]

However, as I think more about it, if I have the bevel-side down, the bevel grind becomes a fulcrum for closer work, which might be better for a small lever. As discussed in another discussion, I want the bevel up for a crowbar, but a crowbar has a long enough arm that I can depend on being able to use environmental objects as a fulcrum -- for something as short as a Scrapivore, I'm less likely to have that option. Of course, for the amount of prying that I'm actually likely to do, I may be way over-thinking this.
Posted By: Sethrotull

Re: Scrapivore LE. . . Specs & Big News!!! - 11/20/10 11:20 PM

I believe that is a righty, bevel down acting like a fulcrum for close work. Knife spine in palm of right hand.
Posted By: Jim

Re: Scrapivore LE. . . Specs & Big News!!! - 11/21/10 05:04 AM

I think that you're probably right. I plan to wait and see how the folks like this LE before I make a final decision about ordering any. I know that many have been clamoring for a skelly-handled Scrap Yard release, but I'm not one of them.

I suspect that as skelly knives go, this is a good, functional, ergonomic design, and it may be well worth getting a few just to keep up my collection. However, I consider the primary role of a skelly design to be a "hold-out" knife, carried concealed and close to the body. Based on what I've heard about SR101's corrosion characteristics, extended contact with my sweat would rust SR101, and I do sweat. I'd have preferred it in the more stain-resistant 154CM, although SR101 is tougher and as noted, skellys aren't really my thing anyway. Still, if I do decide to order some, I want to make sure I order the "right" ones.

Re: Scrapivore LE. . . Specs & Big News!!! - 11/21/10 07:22 AM

What is the turn around time expected for these beauties?

No choil, thin and high hardness. Might get carried more than my BAD! And obviously more than the CABS, just from the handy length.
Posted By: SkunkHunter

Re: Scrapivore LE. . . Specs & Big News!!! - 11/21/10 10:19 AM

Jim in the video where they had a closeup of him holding the knife I THINK it showed the bevel UP in the Right hand as for cutting. Therefore the bevel would be DOWN when holding the blade, spine in your hand.

Scray Yard virgin here.

Been looking for a great little fixed blade to EDC. I've had the scrap yard knivies shop site set as my homepage for the last few weeks. Wouldnt be able to live with myself if i missed out on it.

Welcome to the Yard

I have not seen anyone mention, is the Scrapivore LE going to be numbered?

LE's are not scheduled to be numbered

Dan

so "not scheduled" does that mean the schedule might change?

^ What he said! I think that the Scrapivore would pair up well with the S5 and up size knives quite well. Think it is to close size wise to anything smaller to not be all that advantageous.

I must be the only person thinking holidays are coming up, I won't have time to play with the scrapivore until January and I'll be hemorrhaging cash for gifts all December. I can wait...(in case Renee or Dan is reading, I'll still take mine when it's ready) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
