Can someone who has a S5 CG an one of the Dumpster Mutts with the coated blades (colored ones...not the super thick orignal) run a little head to head testing?

Would love to know how these two stack up! Tennessee Rat's photos of his tan DM mess with me! But, the S5 is king for me in that size range... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I have used them both. I prefer the Scrap Muk to either. The handle on the DM is a bit small for me. The balance on the S5 is a little blade heavy. The Muk is just right. And it doesn't rust, so it makes an ideal skinning and food prep knife as well. The beefy 4.5" curved blade can do it all. Of course, any of these knives will get the job done and take a lot of hard use. I have batoned thru hard oak with all three of them. These are just my subtle picky opinions. My favorite 5" blade knife remains the Ratmandu. I just wish it were in Busse's 154CM, which may not be as tough as SR77 or SR101, but is plenty tough enough for me.

I agree with Vic on the Muk. As far as I am concerned the Muk is the best ever made by Dan and crew <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />. The S5 is also nice ( not INFI)and I have the DM ( skinny) in tanker gray and then the original fatty which are both just OK for me. Just my 2 cents-Thanks <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Lotsa Muk love!

I wondered how the DM did with the S5- I love that blade, does every thing well!

Thanks for the feedback you 2!

That is my only complaint about the DM is the handle. Just not quite big enough to grip comfortably, and my hands are on the small side. I much prefer the mudder grips of the S5.

And to echo Horn Dog again, the Ratmandu is also my favorite knife in that range. I really like the S5, but I LOVE my RMD!

Echo of Vic and Bob on the MUK. But to your question I prefer my RMD to my S5LE because of balance. The DM grip is a bit small for my grip but still manageable.
