DMDC kydex with Scrapivor piggyback

DMDC kydex with Scrapivor piggyback - 05/09/11 03:40 AM

I'm thinking I want to do a Kydex setup for my DMDC witha piggyback for my Scrapivor. who would you all recomend? I don't want to have to send my knives in to get the sheaths molded to them, unless that would be the best, to have a sheath molded specificaly to that knife. now that i think about it, even if two knives are the same model, they are probably not exact.

If the sheath makers have that model sheath you won't need to send them in. The DMDC and the scrapivor are popular blades so the makers probably have them. the three main ones here are:

Rainwalker
ByBrown (David Brown)
Azwelke

These are the three main kydex benders that post here. Any of the three will make you a good rig.

Give them a shout and see what comes of it.

I've seen some nice leather piggyback sheaths so do yourself a favor and check them out. Whoever you choose please post the pics.

Hey buddy the others are correct.rain walker makes beautiful leather and kydex as does al werke and brown.

I have a sheath thread and it has a chuddy bear combo set up for a ratweiler and a swamp warden in a dangler set up. Very nice. Rain walker makes similar set ups that are almost too beautiful to use. If you can't find it let me know and I'll post the pic here. I also have a monster kydex set up for a hogfsh and warden that is so big it's not practical for long term carry, so be careful adding pouches, fire strikers, lights, sharpening steels, etc.

Let me know.

Something like this?
[Linked Image from i1185.photobucket.com]
The guy I bought this setup off said it had been made for a Search and Rescue guy (be funny if he was on here!)
The small knife is an izula the bigger is son of dogfather - my scrapivore fits the izula pouch perfectly though

Lonereader, I THINK that is a sheath setup made by a guy on the Swamp Rat forums Called SARHOUND or River8. give me a few and I will try and find out.

Ah cool to know especially as I have it probably third hand! It is a great sturdy setup - good craftsmanship!

Yeah I almost had him make me one a couple years ago, but at the time all I had was the DF and I didn't want a setup that big and heavy. Should have gotten one anyway! ANYWHO, just go over to the Swamp Rat site and post a pic of it asking who made it and I KNOW you will get an answer, and maybe even when it was made!

the way i want it is with the small knife laying on top of the big knife at a slightly backward angle, does this orientation make sense? I've seen setups like this. anywaay, comunicating with Rainwalker right now

Allright Dogs. Decision time. Leather or Kydex?

Kydex:
Lightweight
Doesn't retain water

Leather:
Beautiful but
Retains water
Weighs more

For all practical intents and purposes, kydex is the way to go.

Any other pros or cons gentlemen?

Leather has a soul, where Kydex is just a sheath.

Oh, and I was also thinking of a Crocodile dundee style rig for concealed carrying the DMDC as well. Ever since i saw that movie, i've always thought it was ingenious and wanted to carry a knife like that. Up here in AK, it's not really necessary to carry a medium fixed blade concealed, but there are some places/occasions where it is a good idea.

I prefer kydex myself.
