BLADE 2012 or BUST!!!!

As soon as the dates for next year are announced I'm booking my hotel room and my flight, I'm not gonna wait till the last minute like I did this year only to find booked rooms and pricey flights. I've been kicking myself for not going back this year and won't feel the same next year. Anyone who feels the same as me, feel free to chime in here and post your plan, if you have booked your room or flight, or how you plan on saving up some spending money, with a little self control and a whole year to plan, it should be no problem at all. Come on Dogs! Let's rock Blade 2012!!!

I would love to go...but most of my disposable income is typically tied up in spending time in the woods. Not sure I will ever make it to Blade <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> It sure looks like an awesome time though...maybe I'll hit it big next year and have the extra $$ to stretch out to Blade <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> (I can dream, right?)

I drove through Atlanta a few weeks ago. It took about 7.5 hours to get there from my house. Not an impossible trip...

Just read through the whole thread...I thought Blade was in Atlanta every year?

That's the plan, they haven't given exact yet, but it is usually the first or second weekend of June,

It is, same place also, the Cobb Galleria Convention center, it's just the date for next year isn't exact yet

Sooo...I'm all about improving "price / performance" ratio, not only in knives. I'd be up for renting a suite or something similar for the weekend with several other Dogs. It sure would help keep costs down....

Grouping up on the rooms is a very common practice for Blade. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> I've never done it myself, because me and the wife go together and she spends a lot more time in the room than I do, but I've known many others that have done it in the past, including some of the vendors that set up at Blade.

I love road trips, but it's about a 30 hour drive from Phoenix, AZ. Probably cheaper to fly. There are several hotels very close to the galleria that have suite style rooms ( two separate rooms in one) I'm going to start calling around and see if rates are any cheaper than they show online. The Busse folk also get a block of rooms at the extended stay ( about 5 minutes away) and the rooms were only 69.99 a night, Amy usually announces that closer to Blade

How much do the hotel rooms down there go for?

Stan - the Extended Stay where I stay is about $50.00 a night, about a THIRD of the Waverly! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> It's only about 1 1/2 miles away and very quiet. It has a refrigerator, electric cooktop, and microwave, but otherwise is NO FRILLS; such as a pool or restaurant. However, right across the parking lot is a Burger King, and on the same road (Spring Road) is several other restaurants as well. Since I am only actually in the room for a few hours a night, so I would rather spend the money saved on hotel rooms for new blades. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I stayed at the wrong Extended Stay then, think I paid $65 and was about 5 miles away with nothing across the street except an ampm <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

M/D - that was probably the Extended Stay up the road from the Cobb Galleria - a few miles sounds right. The Homestead Cumberland Extended Stay is just off Spring Road, which is the first street past the overpass. Turn left and go about a mile. It technically is on Sports Avenue, which is really only a driveway/parking lot. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I'm planning a trip to PyOhio (a Python programming conference) next month, and staying at a Holiday Inn Express in Columbus. It's costing $169 (+ $56.62 in taxes) / night. The same hotel was $99 + taxes / night last year; the only difference is that a large, two-topping pizza is included in the price for each night's lodging this year. My employer is paying, so maybe I shouldn't care, but that seems like a lot to me.

It sounds to me like some one had a gimmick going and someone is taking it in the shorts!

Pvt. Klink and MD- I stayed at the extended stay off 75 at sandy springs exit. Same exit as when you went to Fudruckers Friday night. It was 179.97 for 3 nights. That was about one night for the hotel at the center. It was basic, but had lots of room with a kitchen.

Just out of curiosity: I was checking how much it would cost me to visit Atlanta. I made a search for four nights in hotel in Atlanta and flights with only one change.

If you are talking about tickets to get into the show, I think it cost $10.00 for a three-day pass, using a VIP pass you can get free from the Busse Companies. In other words, the VIP pass from Busse and $10.00. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I agree. have stayed there myself. All I do is sleep there anyway and its clean.

We had two beds and a couch and split it three ways. Plenty of room.

So, I was talking about how I'm going to Blade 2012, and the wife wants to go. As long as she can go sometime to Paula Deans resteraunt <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />. This is a good thing as she is usally the DD <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />. And at parties, she's the talker, not me.
So, it looks like the best place to stay at, may be the Extended Stay on Sports Ave.
This year the Busse group reserved a block of rooms somewhere. Anybody know where that was and how far from the Galleria. I think I remember reading about a trough raid at a hotel room the night before the show. Could be fun.
So, I'm trying to decide where to stay and if I need a rental car.
Any more ideas?

Hooker --- Amy usually reserves a block of rooms at the Homestead extended stay located further up Cobb Parkway and off a service road. I am personally planning on staying at the Homestead Cumberland extended stay located on Sports Avenue. We have stayed there all four times that I have gone to Blade and we were satisfied. It may be a little quieter than the one located off Cobb Parkway, and it's quite close to the Cobb Galleria where the show is at. Lots of places to eat nearby as well, from Burger King to Olive Garden to just name a couple. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I need to go ahead and make my reservation there. I waited last year and didn't have a good place to stay. That was one big reason that I cancelled and didn't go.

The induction dinner is normally held at the Jocks & Jills restaurant, downstairs at the Cobb Galleria. Jerry rents out the entire restaurant for their customers, providing a great buffet type meal and lots of fun. After dinner, we sit outside the restaurant's outdoor patio area and "the games begin"! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I should again mention that the entire event is "family friendly", so no worries about the wife and kids. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> It really is a fun experience!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I just got my work schedule for next year and it looks like I'll be working on the 8th. I could probably take that day off but I wont be able to make it to the pre show trough raid at the hotel. I'll probably stay at an extended stay hotel nearby.

Looks like I'll be going alone. We have a baby girl due at the end of March and we decided it would be too much to ask to have my in-laws watch a 2 1/2 year old boy and a 2 1/2 month old girl for 3+ days. My wife has zero interest in knives, but she really wanted to go. Guess I'll just have to proxy for her.

I'm still working on making this a possibility. Not sure I can afford the luxury of several days time away from the homefront (and office). If I can figure out the schedules, I'm looking at maybe flying in for a day or so.

I really wanted to setup a carpool down the I-20 corridor for any other folks as well...but Southwest has come out with a $99 (each way) flight from Austin to Atlanta...that's hard to beat when you consider the time involved / lost from driving. Driving is still in the books though...

What does the Busse event calendar look like for the "evenings". Is the induction on Saturday night? What kind of foolery happens on Thursday / Friday nights....I forget! Need help prioritizing.

Fridays for the last few years has been dinner at Fuudrucker's--Busse takes over their party room and we all get together for food and drinks. Saturday night Busse rents out Jocks&Jills...the restaurant in the Hotel, where an excellent buffet meal is served with drinks and the fun begins right after dinner. Well, I did it. I booked a non refundable 2 room suite for three nights. The wife and mom will come along and see the Atlanta area while I take in all the knife fun I can.

The Magnum Bear Cub should prove to be a great edc. The 711 eleven, although 7.5" is a great camp knife.
That's the problem, so many great knives coming out, what special one to pick out at Blade .
