That is a big solar array. My SA is much smaller.

How is the tent secured to the ruck?

That is my camping pack although it has just about everything to be a BOB: IFAK, Food, Water (3 liter reservoir, 1 liter nalgene w/ steel nesting cup, two 1 liter Platypus foldable water bags, filter, and tablets), two SY Knives, Leatherman Micra, German Army knife etc etc etc etc.

The lantern is a Black Diamond Apollo. It take s 4 AA batteries like most of my electronics which can all be charged with the solar panel and battery charger shown. It is rated at 80 lumen and is variable down to a 60 hour burn time.

The stuff sack has two nylon loops on the outside and I run the compression straps on the Condor II through them.

The tent is a winter addition, I use the Hennessy Hammock in fair weather.

I have used the hell out of this array. I mostly use it to charge AA batteries, but the battery charger has a USB outlet and I charge my iPod with it too <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />. Audio books are great for making long bike rides (on trails not traffic filled roads) more pleasant and are nice to listen to while relaxing in the hammock.

The Powerfilm website has videos of them putting multiple rounds through the panels and it barely affecting the output.

Eventually I'll upgrade my array. At that point my wife's BOB will get the old (lighter / smaller) one.

I've been wanting to try a Hennessey for a number of years. I need to get serious about that!

I highly recommend them (hammocks). I have had mine for years. It has been around the world and served me well. Still holding up great.

I used to get funny looks on deployments when every one was setting up their tents and I was finished way before them. They laughed at first, then asked if they could take naps in it when I wasn't using it. Unless you are packing an inflatable mattress, there is no way sleeping in a tent is half as comfortable as sleeping in a hammock.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm going to put them on the short list of gear to try out.

Which model do you have?

Expedition Asym. Classic. It wasn't called the classic back when I got it. There were only a few models available. I just looked at their site, and wow. There are tons now.

Check out the sale they have going on now too. Might be a good time to get one.

nice bag and pack. i woulod recommend a SOFTT-W tourniquet too. it is VERY important for a BoB.

I carried one in Afghanistan too, but they are too big for this IFAK. I have a TK4 in this one since it is small and it is a little easier to apply with one hand.

I do recommend those MSR pots. Had mine for about three years, and it has seen a good amount of use. Other than mild scratches, it is like new. Well built. The biggest one, 1.6l can be had for about $25

yeah I would like the smaller one, nothing bigger than the 1.1 lit but I think the 1.6 would be the best choice. IF I ever need to actually cook with it it would hold enough for two or three people.

I have a little one and it works for rice and single meals. I usually cook small game on a campfire rotisserie and tear the meat off, throw it in the pot and make a small stew.

I keep a Light My Fire Spice Box with red pepper, black pepper and salt in it and bullion packets in the pot.

Hum.... Maybe the 1.1 would be big enough. Wasn't thinking, but that's just over 37 ounces. Heck, that would work.

Yeah that probably would be a better size than the larger one. Combined with my present setup that makes a nice single serving size fry pan (about size of the old boy scout mess kits).

After talking about his back packing cookware I got to looking around. It would appear that this is the set I have right now. I think I got a good deal at a flea market for $10.00.

i bought a T.H.E. Pack by SPEC OPS here in afghanistan on our FOB and it is the best pack i have ever owned. i cant wait to get back home and throw a kit together. great looking kit you have here!
