camp cook pot cozies, how to make & what you think - 03/04/12 02:38 AM

Hi gang,

I am looking into making some for my camping kit and was wondering your opinions on them.

Are they worth the money and effort ?.

Do you really save that much more fuel?

Do you use em?

Here are a couple links about them, testing them, and making them.

I set my pot directly on the coals. I assume the cozie wouldn't last long and get full of soot. I can see a use for it to keep the contents warm after cooking though. I usually use evergreen branches full of needles to make a little storage space for the pots so they stay warm as I cook other parts of the meal.

Thanks jj. I want it for a canoe trip where I have to use a stove only.

Hummm... Very interesting concept. I would wonder about the "Plastic air bubbles" though. I would think that the plastic might heat up and melt if you put something to hot in there. BUT if you are just going to use it to keep things warm, it should work out ok, but you could do the same thing with a metal thermos. Yeah I know, it's heavier, but still, it WOULD be almost break proof.

That cozie video reminded me of the Stainless bottle I take to work every night. It IS more costly than the 4-5 dollar Wally World bottles, but it is also much better made IMHO.

I have had it now for about 3 years or so and it has been droppped, kicked and left out to freeze, NO PROBLEMS to report. If you want to look at up to a ONE HALF GALLON Stainless steel bottle, check these guys out. (They also have insulated up to 20oz.).

Oh and the have two (that I can remember) different bottles that they give a 6 dollar and a 4 dollar donation FOR EACH BOTTLE to the Breast Cancer fund.
