The M word..... What's your opinion on militias? - 01/08/16 12:53 AM

I was invited by some guys to check out and interview with a local branch of a militia here in Ohio. I was told they are pro constitution, pro local LEO and seem to be generally like most of us here.

I've got mixed feelings on it and wanted to hear your thoughts.

They can be good or bad depends on fellow members, sounds like that one may be ok.

Yeah I would get a better sense if I co to the meet and great.
I don't want to be added to a federal watch list though... Well I've probably been on one for a while....

Generally well meaning people in the most part I suspect, unfortunately so many are tarred by the the brush strokes of the lunatic fringe. If you ever plan on federal employment that many require a security clearance you should probably not formalise your relationship with them however. No matter how benign that group is you will get painted with the brush.

That's one thing. I work for a aerospace defense supplier and as a machinist
I handle And manufacture stuff that's for the gov. I love my country and would never ever do anything that goes against my morals and my constitutional government. But I do see the value of organized citizens.

What you may want to consider
Does your company work on any government projects that might require background checks or clearance

If so could membership in this militia or similar group affect your employment or advancement

Yep if you have to do background checks be careful, but if they are decent they should understand that also.

yes you have to pass a background check before you even tour the facility.
My company is far from from decent so I don't see them understanding anything.

Yeah. I'd hate to be kept from joining a good group because of my future and current work. But I also don't want to close future doors for my career

You're speaking like a rational patriotic citizen. This doesn't settle well with those in government. Organized people are a threat to the established power structure.

Regardless of the militia's intention, the average sheeple will assume you're a fringe lunatic, and the government will eventually lable you a domestic terrorist.

You see, to the government mind, their actions are above reproach and are justified by their self imposed omniscient status. We the (little) People are here to serve and obey. Disobedience is not tolerated.

If you have "mixed feelings", that should be a big "No".

Nothing wrong with hanging out with like minded friends though, does it have to be an official group?
