Bug out bike. The enduro - 03/24/16 01:11 AM

I'm looking at the KTM 690 enduro r
And the Husqvarna 701 enduro.
Tough call. The 701 is $500 more.
What do you guys think?

Which ever one has the best dealer near you. The problem with both is parts availability. What are your intended uses for it?

Re: Bug out bike. The enduro - 03/24/16 01:18 AM

KTM has a much larger dealer network and aftermarket support.
I just got my learners permit and all my buddies ride enduros. I've wanted one fire a while. Probably 70% road to 30% trails and dirt and gravel country roads.

Re: Bug out bike. The enduro - 03/24/16 01:48 AM

Personally having used various 2,3 and 4 wheel ORVs I think you'd be much better served by a 4wd 4 wheeler. They can tow a small trailer filled with food and supplies and are much more stable. I had a fairly nasty spill on a bike once. Wouldn't get on another.

However if you're just trying to justify a toy...no justification needed.

Started a BOV thread. You should see what people have to say before committing to a motorcycle.

Re: Bug out bike. The enduro - 03/24/16 01:59 AM

My buddies have enduros and they ride and take short trips so I want something street legal. Not as good as a 4 wheeler but I'm looking at street legal 2 wheelers

Sounds like you have it all figured out.

Re: Bug out bike. The enduro - 03/24/16 03:05 AM

If you are just starting to ride take a look at a Suzuki drz400. Great reliable bike that will have more than enough power for you.

That bike is in the running. It's just not as sexy as the other 2

Those of us who have riden for many years have a saying. Chrome won't get you home. Lol

Re: Bug out bike. The enduro - 03/24/16 03:42 AM

Lol for sure. I was looking for as much power as I could get without going above 350 pound for a bike because I'd like to add an auxiliary fuel tank and when you add a rack for your BOB and rifle things start adding up and getting to heavy for cross country travel.

Re: Bug out bike. The enduro - 03/24/16 05:19 AM

I used to ride a dirt bike, a lot! They are fun, but I would never consider them a front line BOV. Emergency and back up, sure. Get yourself an ATV of some kind (single seat or side by side) with a small bed and then look for a compatible trailer to pull behind it. That way you can haul your NEVER LEAVE BEHIND essentials in the rig and the "Extras" in the trailer.

YES I know your buds ride bikes, but are you looking for fun or true Bug Out?

Re: Bug out bike. The enduro - 03/24/16 10:29 AM

The "Zombie Express" as my Godiids call it (sorry Gary) is an XT600e, same bike was used by the Army here as their recon tool as well as other battlefield duties. Mine actually wears racks and guards that came of an ex-army bike. With panniers, the back rack (including rifle case) I can carry the essentials, it also has a long range tank etc. Lots of fun and goes about anywhere !! My other bike is 1200cc and all for the street/highway wink

Re: Bug out bike. The enduro - 03/24/16 01:59 PM

Got any pics Andy? Guys I'm well aware that a 4 wheeler would do better. But my car is a 2004 Buick And pulling around a 4 wheeler isn't something it's going to like doing. I'm getting a motorcycle and I'm looking for it to serve a bigger purpose than flying down the road getting me speeding tickets.

Re: Bug out bike. The enduro - 03/24/16 03:09 PM

just avoid the klr650s they are great street bikes but useless on anything worse than a fire road.

Re: Bug out bike. The enduro - 03/24/16 03:18 PM

thats good advice! It's a big heavy bike for sure!

Re: Bug out bike. The enduro - 04/04/16 06:13 PM

I'm going with the KTM! I pick it up Monday. I'm going to order an adjustable Windscreen from mad stad. And I need to find a good rear rack for gear and fuel.
Maybe after a while add auxiliary tanks for a few more gallons.

Ah that's makes sense! Can't wait for warm weather at our locations so we can enjoy the bikes. I'm having a fun time trying to get good insurance quotes. To many dang options. I've been quoted $2200-$475 a year lol

Re: Bug out bike. The enduro - 04/07/16 07:39 PM

I went ready to talk the guy down, but when I saw it I knew I didn't need to he was way below what they are selling for already. I paid about half the going rate and with as nice as it is I almost felt bad about it, almost. LOL

Got out for my first wood ride today, man I missed it. The bike ran great lots if low end grunt over my last bike, a 250 two stroke. Here are a few pics to enjoy.

The German army is using the KTM 400 LS-E Military

Re: Bug out bike. The enduro - 04/12/16 05:40 AM

It has the 600 ccm which is reduced to 400 ccm so it has a longer lifespan and can use low octane fuel...

Re: Bug out bike. The enduro - 04/12/16 03:14 PM

That is one of the things I like about the DR it can run on 87 which is around 50 cents a gallon cheaper. So I think I will run 87 all summer then this fall when it gets close to parking time I will run 91 so it doesn't sit with ethanol in the carb.

Re: Bug out bike. The enduro - 04/19/16 02:49 PM

My bike has been awesome! Lots of torque!!! Plenty fast enough! (I stopped when I hit 80mph) took it to an ATV park. Did awesome on some small jumps and is great. It needed geared lower if I was doing a lot of off road hill climbing. But since I'm not I love it.

Nice GD those atv parks are great places to ride and train.

Re: Bug out bike. The enduro - 05/27/16 05:43 AM

Really nice! You're going to really enjoy riding (and falling!) on that bike.

I owned a Honda XLR650. What a blast to ride on the dirt roads. There were fire trails and moguls near my house and the dual-sport was the way to go so that you actually travelled on your dirt bike. I spent a lot of time going fishing and shooting on that bike.

Because of the mountains that are outside the back door, I switched to a Yamaha Grizzly. But I still have my Honda CBR1100 - I'm still a die-hard Honda two-wheel fan.

Re: Bug out bike. The enduro - 06/03/16 08:34 AM

Ordered a clean speed brake rear brake lever for my KTM as well as a CJ designs billet fuel fill neck. The fuel fill neck should help keep dirt out of my tank and the stock rear brake lever was really weak and the first thing to go when down in TN riding royal blue trails over the holiday weekend.
