Knives we would like to see from the Yard

Knives we would like to see from the Yard - 11/22/20 02:56 PM

This morning I was re-reading the thread on the mini-taliwacker and I had forgotten about a knife idea Randy had- a mini Trash. It made me think about a new thread for knife ideas...so here goes!

1. Mini Taliwacker is a dream for me

2. skinny War Dog

3. skinny SS4

4. Randy's mini Trash would be a great all rounder...love that blade shape

What would you all like to see?

Re: Knives we would like to see from the Yard - 11/23/20 04:31 AM

OK, here I go.
1. MINI TRASH. As much as I would like a Mini Tali Whacker, I think a mini Trash (at 4.5 inch blade) would make more sense as a strictly USING (as in survival situations) knife. We all know how versatile the Trash is but let’s face it, it is at least for some of us, a tad on the overbuilt side. Personally I feel like that would be a much better blade at 3/16 inch thick. Yes, you can use it to straighten up the leaning tower of Pizza, but how many of us are gonna travel all that way just to help them out. wink

2. Mini Tali-Whacker. OK, to me this would be more of a Combat or edc blade (at 4-4.25 inch blade). It should have the same blade profile s the TW just reduced to the aforementioned blade length. Being of a more compact size it would be less cumbersome for a lot of tasks, but I still feel the Mini Trash would be the better “Woods” blade. Where I feel the MTW would again excel would be as a use all combat blade that would function in an emergency as a passable fighting blade. Not the best choice of course, but quit capable. And because of it’s size it wouldn’t be to large for someone needing an actual combat knife for all the tasks a military member would have need to do.

3. Skinny War Dog. After using my War Dog SOME bushcraft functions, I actually like the thickness. It gives strength and by being such a slender bade doesn’t really add an excessive amount of weight. I WOULD like to see it at least a quarter inch wider from spine to edge but then you would be getting into the MT area.

4. Skinny SS4, as much as I would like one, it is an iconic blade, one of the Holy Grails of Scrapyarddom. That being said, I can live out the remaining years of my life without one and not feel as if there is anything missing from my knife collection.

So just to make this all more readable and concise, I could be quite satisfied with two blades. First the Mini Trash as outlined above and Secondly a Mini Tali-Whacker for most everything else. Notice I said most, not all. I mean We all like big blades and we can not lie. wink

I love Bowies, so an 11", 2" wide , .210 thick, longer clip point blade would be great. smile

1) Alpha Dog 12... .219" thick

2) Scrap Raider (or something with a Recurve and a Regulator handle even A Basic Bolo 11 or 12 would be nice

3) Scrap Khuk!! er I mean Squatch Khuk (with a DeReg handle)!! If he gets it done he gets the name

4) Scrap Jacks a .187 Boss Jack in Sr101!!

Re: Knives we would like to see from the Yard - 11/25/20 03:12 AM

Scrapper 5 CG
with all the same handle and blade color options as last time.

It could have no thumb ramp or finger choil, could be thinner.

I want a Brown "Mudder" on Sage pretty bad.

OR

Just a 4" Mud Mutt.
I'm still gonna need brown on sage though.

A Scrap Jack (with Res-C) does sound interesting. A skinny Jack (.125" thick) would be nice too!

Re: Knives we would like to see from the Yard - 02/09/21 05:34 PM

-- Bulldog Regulator as a store offering.

-- War Dog HACK. This is one of the best blades to ever come out of the Shop. Everyone should have the chance to own one!!!!!!! (THANKS RANDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

-- BG DIC Dogfather 2021 edition

-- BG DIC SOD 2021

-- BG DIC MOAD 2012

The Yard doesn't have enough BG DICs! Dan, I'm looking at you! We want to see more DICs! grin grin grin grin grin

-- Scrap Khuk. A 12-14" blade of EPIC proportions. Maybe pair it with a smaller blade or two made from the scrap. You know, like a regular Khukri. smile

-- Yard Gemini. Let's give the Regulator handle a REAL workout!

-- Safety Mutt re-release

-- Deep Dish Hollow Ground 411 OR SS4 . The 411 is one of the most useful blade designs of all time. Put a hollow grind on it and that sucker would be EVEN BETTER!!!!

-- SS5! Why? Because there's no way I'll pay the price for a used one on the secondary market, and it's a heckuva blade! grin Don't forget the differential heat treat!

-- Scrapizashi--differentially heat treated, of course! Of all the blades, this one REALLY needs it!

Actually, ALL the large, uncoated blades should have a diff heat treat, IMO... But please, treat that Scrapizashi!!!

I think my list is reasonable grin

Re: Knives we would like to see from the Yard - 02/09/21 07:04 PM

Bulldog Regulator. Check
411. Check
S5. Check
Mud Mutt. Check
Means I got ‘em

Wardog HACK. You’re welcome grin

Now the Scrapzashi I COULD get behind. But it would need AT LEAST a 20 inch blade and at least a 10 inch handle. Put some little “nubs” on the handle to lock-in the Res-C Regulator Handle and it would be Golden. EVERYONE needs a good Defensive blade. grin

OR Dan could put 3 flared SS tubes through the handle. Just space the holes out evenly and everybody would be happy.

Dan = selling more blades.
David Browm = selling more sheaths
Us Dogs = getting a Very necessary blade considering that Edged Weapons will be all that well is gonna be accessible to all us Deplorables now that “They” control everything.

Heck Dan, just a regulator Handle might work. Just prototype one up and see how it handles.

Shucks, just send the prototype to me and I’ll give it a good honest workout and let ya know how it feels. Shoot just let me know and I’ll pay the shipping fees!

Us Mods is here to help YOU out as well when you’re stuck in a creative rut.

You’re welcome

Skunk

P. S. ** Notice I changed the blade to 20-22 inches.

Sometimes fatties are hard to use depending on what you’re doing. Now the Mini Trash… perfect grin

Actually with the new TNT handle I think this would finally be possible.

I'll take a spikeless version though

I had thought about a spineless, but it can be handy in an emergency (vehicle accident) though.
Posted By: SkunkHunter

Re: Knives we would like to see from the Yard - 07/11/21 02:48 AM

Of all the suggestions, I would still pick a 4 inch long skinny Mini-Trash(.115-.150) inch thick, with more thought given to the thicker end of the range. I think it would be one of the most useful blades Dan could come out with.

Seems to be a large market demand and nothing really available at the scrapyard or swamp rat price level.

Clearly We need a SYKCO Crusher Kukri with a 12in blade and a regulator handle!!!

Re: Knives we would like to see from the Yard - 01/12/22 01:04 AM

I would love a yard version of the:
TGLB
10 or 12 inch regulator with a 0.250 or 0.1875 thick blade
A 3 to 4 inch spear point blade around 1/8th to 3/16th thick scandi grind with a mudder handle
A spear head that can be used for boar hunting
Maybe an option on some models to order without the handle, but designed so that it would be fairly easy for the end user to handle themselves
A traditional sized boning knife
Infi straight razor
