What's in your First Aid Kit? - 02/27/09 02:55 AM

I have been working on building my survival kit and was wondering what you Dogs have under the First Aid category. I am looking at both home and portable versions. Any info would be greatly appreciated! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Dude you are the Man! Thanks, big time!
That is exactly what I had in mind but could not quite put together. I am getting some Pelican cases. Where did you get yours?

BTW, awesome pics!

I buy mine locally. although now i have found a place in Alberta that has them for way cheaper and with free shipping in canada.

this is my next case: its the EMS case, but the biggest one they make with internal dividers for FA stuff:

http://www.optimalcaseandlights.com/store/1660_EMS_Case.html

you might want to check out the SMALL EMS case, it will probably suit your home/camp needs just fine, and you can grab it and GO if you need to (shtf etc)

That's a tough question. Power was out, took some photos and finally "migrated" some stuff I was meaning to:

work: we're near EMS so it's loaded around that, not a lot of sustainment items.

High Spead Gear Inc. Personally I like the way it doesn't creat a lot of "dead space" (specialized pockets with area around them going to waste)

I have more pics but not sure what the limit per post is so I'm breaking them up....

Picked up a Versipack when they first came out, was too small for anything that I needed it for so I ended up using it to carry a USGI Vehicle First Aid kit and added some extra items. This is what I keep in my truck aka "POV".

Stuffed in with disposable blanket:

Bottom row of items are what's in the FAK, top row is what I added: Vac packed kerlex, 14ga caths, Disinfectant, J tube, Sam Splint, Ace Wrap, Bungee Cords

leg panel for GSW/etc. The left is CSM Gear, the right is North American Rescue. The NAR is WAY too big if you asked me. These are meant to be worn on the leg and something that bulky (next picture) gets hung up on stuff, esp in and out of vehicles.

Got this next one "pushed" as part of a new COMPLETE package about a year ago, had been meaning to migrate the USGI FAK out of my Versipak and into it so today was an opportune time.

Thought I had a picture of her closed up but.... added a roll of Coban, two cinch tights, another vac packed kerlex and a unvac'd one, another ace wrap, another 4x7 with cravat(can never have too many). A little larger but I like it. For the life on me I can't figure out what they had in mind with all the fasteks... Recon Mountaineering LLC btw.
edit: can't forget the surgical stapler!

Great pics and info! I really appreciate it. It's one thing to read about a setup but when you add the pictures it really makes it clear. I was looking for both home and portable and you guys nailed it. Once again the Yard proves invaluable.

I just bought some QuikClot and Israeli bandages for my FAK. Those are ones I hope I never have to use. I also like Pelican cases. I keep my bandages, gauzes, wraps and meds in a 1030.

Israelis are great! Cinch Tights are pretty similar and good too, I prefer them over the Israelis but just because I'm more familiar with them - Ace wrap with bandage attached and velcro at the ends, plus a hook for tourniquet type use. Great for extremities, torso, and hard to wrap areas like the shoulder/hips.

Quick Clot - gauze, bags, or powder? The powder tends to be trouble some. Can't/shouldn't use it on penetrating torso or head injuries, if they're not completely penetrating then you don't even need to think about it. Extremities I'd go to a tourniquet before the powder unless it's a major bleed in the armpit/groin area -

You guys must deal with some SERIOUS injuries! It's good to be prepared.

my first aid kit is a rusty hack saw, a butane torch, and a bottle of jack.

actually it's the combination of three kits you get at walmart, squished into one pouch.

Change the Bottle of Jack to Bushmills, add a ziploc bag, bungee cord, and carabiner and you're set!

I was thinking Glory, amputation at the knee. Minus the butane torch.

Jack and a saw. Ha! That'd be a good name for an ol'timey hospital.
