A big win for guns up North

A big win for guns up North - 11/12/09 04:57 PM
I don't know if you folks down South have heard anything about it but last week the second reading of Bill C391 passed by 27 votes in the House of Commons.
This bill should finally repeal the long gun registry and leave only hand guns, restricted rifles (AR15 and short barreled semi's) and grandfathered prohibited guns (AK, FAL, small pistols etc.) registered.
This is a huge win for the will of the people, as the "pro-gun" Conservative party currently holds a minority government, so MPs from the notoriously "anti-gun" Liberal and NDP parties had to vote in favor of the bill in order for it to pass.

There's still a long way to go towards sane gun laws but this is the first win in a LONG LONG time (if ever).

this is a MAJOR win for Canadians. That ******** registry treated hunters like criminals and cost over $5 billion to run. YES $FIVE BILLION to run, NOT the "$2 billion" that the media reported. A complete and utter waste of TAXPAYERS money, but hey thats what we expect from our government.
as for me, I plan to buy a backpowder rifle, .50 cal. No licence needed for the rifle, no licence for the shot or powder. It appeals to this (almost) off the grid Canadian.......

Keep in mind that it has to be a flintlock to not need a license, percussion cap models still require the PAL (Although won't need to be registered soon)

All it takes is one nutcase up here and we will be back to square 1.
Liberals are now threatening to make the next vote go along party lines instead of a free vote. If that happens we are probably bu**ered

Re: A big win for guns up North - 11/21/09 05:54 AM
Up here only something like 3% of gun owners belong to a firearms owner rights organization.
The antis keep screaming about the powerfull gun lobby, but the truth is isn't one in Canada
