Debris Shelter Revisited

Debris Shelter Revisited - 01/27/10 08:08 PM

Last year at Christmas, I entered a contest over on Bladeforums. The premise
of the contest was to build an "all natural" winter shelter. I scouted around
and found a likely spot and proceeded to build a debris shelter.
This is a link to the contest for anyone who is a BF member.

The contest was supposed to have ended on New Years Day, but my entry was the
only one that qualified, so I asked that the contest be extended to provide for
others to have the opportunity to get in on it.
I think that it's set to go until the end of April now.

A couple of pictures when my wife and I were building it in December

Yesterday, we went back and visited my debris shelter to see how it looks now, almost a month after we finished it.
As you can see, all the snow is gone now. This is a view of the back of the shelter, as we were coming down the hill.

Them just swimming away and chattering at him. I didn't get a picture
of it, but he actually went into the water after them...hehe...

Bob, that's just what I plan on doing. At the moment, I'm waiting for a bit
colder evening, but think that I'm going to head out some evening next week. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Bush, all you have to do is head that truck of yours north-east and you'll
do fine.
There's lots of open spaces here. Enough for a person to "get lost in" if the
urge ever overtook one. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/paperbag.gif" alt="" />

D, if i had money, and if my truck wasn;t a junk heap (dead leaf springs, worn carb, no shocks, brakes? and a slipping clutch........i would be up in your area and GONE! once there a mountain bike is just fine for gittin around. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I didn't feel right about things as I was the only one who actually did everything
according to the parameters of the contest.
Actually, I entered the contest just to give myself some incentive to get out
and give it a try.
The Kershaw is a nice knife, and it would be cool to actually win it, but I'm
hoping that others will get out and make the shelters AND submit pictures.

Cheers

I was really surprised too. Actually, I didn't think that I'd made it
very sturdy at all.

Looks very sturdy to me <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />. I am thinking is going to be tough for someone to do any better. Nice job my friend <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />.
