California has great knife laws as a state. You can carry ANY length folding knife either open or concealed carry. You can carry ANY length fixed blade knife open carry on your belt. You cannot carry any length fixed blade concealed. Switchblades made in CA with a blade 2" or less are legal.

Now, big urban centers have additional laws that you would expect from CA, but the rural areas are pretty good. Sacramento oddly enough doesn't have any extra laws above the state laws. There used to be a legally blind guy who would go for walks carrying a katana. People would call the cops on him all the time and they'd tell them that unless he was brandishing it there wasn't anything they could do.

Of course there was an odd loophole in Sacramento laws that allowed one to be naked on sidewalks and streets, but not parks or yards.
