Been going through my knives again TRYING to get over wanting to buy another knife. I mean I only have a couple to pick from . Bushcrafting/survival type use/have on your belt all the time. I’ve narrowed my present “stash” down to I think three. IF you were limited to only one out of the three which one would you pick and why? OR which would you NOT pick and why. 1. S5 (Scrapper 5) 2. Wardog 3. 411 I also have a Moderator edition of the Mud Mutt and a 511 but have kinda ruled them out over the other three. AND I am thinking about swapping out one of my big knives for my Bullnose Regulator. I DO like that knife. Also I am thinking of having one of my Swamp Wardens or Cupidvore on a cord or ball chain around my neck at all times along with a ferro rod, striker and some tinder quicks. Now mind you this is just a mental exercise unless it all does go south. I already have a GHB Kit in each suv and am in the process of changing them over to summer gear. And as always feel free to add your own pick or picks and the reasons.

I believe the Scrapper 5 will handle all your needs.

That's a tough call ! I usually grab my 511 over my wardog latley but my sheathing has some impact. My 511 has a great BB kydex. I've never had a S5 but I've always really liked the blade profile

So far I am leaning toward the S5, but the Wardog has it over thickness AND ease of sharpening while still holding a good edge.
Right now my S5 lives in a short Combat Master sheath along with a ferro rod/striker and a sharpening rod with a small capsule of Dog Tired built CBPJ tinder.
Oh and I might add that this an “if you have on pants you have on your knife” blade. A chopper will be lashed to the pack.

Great 3 to pick from, I would go S5 since you will have a bigger chopper on your pack, don't need the thickness.
Out of what I have, I'll take my AD6 and never look back.

I would pick the 411. It is the most used knife in my pile o’knives. The dimensions and weight were perfect for what I did. The 411 and a BK-9 strapped to the pack were all I ever needed except for the times a small axe was used in place of the BK-9.

The S5 and 411 are my two top picks. I like the 411 quite a bit. Now if Dan would just build the Skinny Sash (SYKCO Ash) with the afore mentioned 4.5 inch long .150 or so thick blade there would not be any doubt about what I would pick.

I am wanting to say the S5 has won out, but I still find myself fondling the 411. To me the 411 feels better in my hand but the extra 3/4 inch blade length on the S5 is also drawing me.
Guess I will have to keep “testing” them out to see who the ultimate winner will be.

OK, I guess he’s #1 for a reason. I’m gonna take Tom’s advice and go with the S5. It’s not my “Wish” ( see my last couple posts In the Mini TW thread) but the longer blade gives it a 4.5 inch cutting edge, which could prove critical in a survival/bushcrafter situation. Choking up with your finger in the choil your (at least mine does) thumb is forward of the thumb ramp and is quite comfortable.
So, until Dan builds the Mini-Sash/Dogcrafter the S5 will serve quite well.

Hahaha! I was going over knives of this length too the other day and I came up the the EXACT list of 3+ - SS5 - War Dog - 411 - Mud Mutt The decision in reality is easy for me. I don't own a Mud Mutt (if I could, I'd own the Safety Mutt, anyway) OR the SS5. War Dog it is! I suspect that between my Swamp Warden, War Dog, INFIdu LE, and 1311, there aren't many tasks I couldn't handle... well, any knife related tasks anyway...

Though I DO love my 411....it's one of the best smaller blades to come out of this place. I wish I'd bought a couple extra when I had the chance...

Josh, I do really like the 411. It’s thinner than the S5 and once I revisit my decision in a while, I MIGHT change to that one. Basically (if I remember right) it mainly boiled down to the blade shape from the “belly” to the tip.

Oh, and like you, I also have enough various “Busse Boys” wares to handle about any situation. I need to take another look and maybe give my B8 another look see and test. I like it’s lightness and who can argue with INFI. That’s why I considered my Wardog. Well that and it’s thickness.

Hey, wait a second. I thought you lost your Wardog several years ago. Are you talking about your Wardog HACK?

Of course! I'm just to lazy to write the full thing. Hard to say for sure which is objectively the better blade (well, obviously for me the Hack is ). The Hack is lighter and slice-ier. The OD (original dogster) is easier to sharpen and sturdier. But to be realistic, the weight difference ain't much, and sturdier? Well....I don't have doubts about either one. I love convex blades, the OD model took a bit of time to sharpen, but help the edge forever (well as long as I had it anyway), but that Hack gets sharper, faster. Neither is hard to sharpen like some of my S30V blades... Again... splitting hairs....which both could do In the final analysis, for me it's no contest: The Hack is clearly the better of the two and one i take great pains to never lose. It came from a dear friend and means the world. That, and a Game Warden another fine Dog gifted, that will lleave home with my oldest, to whom it was truly given. He cleaned and butchered his first deer with that blade. He'll pass it to his son, and so on. Another Dog made it possible for me to give my eldest an RMD. I got another for my second oldest, and my two girls will inherit my two INFI RMDs. One will get the satin with blaze orange g10, and the other gets the flat ground with the sheath yet another great Dog made for me... once it leaves my side, that is Usable "heirloom" blades. Something your progeny can hold and know their father, grandfather, great grandfather, and so on all held in their hands and used to do the same thing....for a lot of reasons, giving my kids each a few nice items from their parents and grandparents is important to me. Not to saddle them with a burden of junk, but anchor them to their past and their heritage, with something they can continue to use like their ancestors did I am also grateful that each of my kids will also have one item with special significance that amazing people I've met here over the decade or so I've been a member have done for me and my kids. There's a story that binds them to a larger community. We're launching our second this fall. These items become all the more important to me, and hopefully to them as they go off into the world. I really wish I was able to get on here more often. I miss all the amazing people I've gotten to know and feel like I'm missing out on getting to know others. No matter how long it is between posts, rest assured you all are in my thoughts and prayers Now you got me all teary- eyed Randy! Thanks a lot!

You’re welcome guys. Just another service provided by your ever present FRIENDLY and HELPFUL mods. Just so you don’t feel alone Josh, I’ll do a little sharing myself. Patty and I both look fondly upon items (and she wears hers a lot) we have from foreign lands that were bought for us by Great Dogs. Items we could never acquire on our own. Why I even have one coveted item (well Patty does) that is older than I am! I mean how many folks can claim they have a jade carving that could be up to 3000 years old! Oh and I have gotten my fair share of hard use gear that I use all the time. Sometimes “Thank You” just doesn’t seem enough. Oh and by the way, I just mounted up my last set of DT built ferro rods and pjcb fire starting kits (thanks to DT) to a Spec Ops short Combat Master Sheath I got from another dog a ways back. You’re a good squirrel DT.

Went back to the old trusty slim sjtac. Klink I actually filled the cantene pouches with tall cans and surprised my woman when I brought it home while showing her. In total I could probably comfortably carry 24 regular sized cans on my belt kit. I'll need to do an experiment and get a picture lol
