I bought a pair of Leupold compact binoculars and a set of walkie-talkies to replace my old set.

We’ve got two good sets of Binocs. Nikon and Swarovski. I’m still up in the air about W/T.

Just get a decent brand. Anything is better than the two cans on a string you are using now.

If by walkie talkie, you mean frs or gmrs you are limited to very low transmit capacity. Although gmrs also allows you to get mobile units for your vehicle

FRS power limit is very low- only 2 watts but GMRS limit is 50 watts. With a good antenna, that gives decent range. Nothing like a cell phone of course. For greater range, something like a 2 meter ham radio network would be needed but in my area, not all repeaters have auxiliary power capability.

GMRS handhelds are low power as well, it isn't until you get to mobile units that the power increases. Your laws in the USA are different then here in Canada. We are limited to 2 watts for gmrs. Since GMRS handhelds in the USA are allowed a maximum of 5 watts, some Canadians used to smuggle USA gmrs into Canada (popular were garmin rino models). Cheap baofengs have pretty much ended that.

A number of 4x4 groups in Canada have requested that Canada align our gmrs rules with the USA. In my area many guys are like me with both a ham certificate and commercial radio license for calling mileage on logging roads

I picked up an electric chain saw from T.S.C. while they had their 15% discount for July 4th.

Baofeng actually has a pretty decent 5 watt Legal GMRS radio The UV-9G. I have goofed around with a pair and can talk with my daughter at her house across town. Way better than I expected with the amount of houses and trees between us. It's still a Baofeng but it is far better than some units that run more than $100 a pop and far better than any Motorola Talkabout that I have ever had. Plus you can change antennas. I have a mobile 25 watt unit from Raddiiodity that works pretty well for an inexpensive unit for the SxS/Truck or even the house with a power adapter. I even made myself legal and got the license which is oddly a PITA.

I have a Baofeng GM-15 Pro GMRS radio and a few Baofeng ham radios. They are decent for the price. I have had no problems with them. I also have a couple of Public Service radios that are FCC certified for use on GMRS frequencies that I really like. Heavy little suckers though.

Just ordered an RDS for the Springfield Hellcat from Primary arms. Now all I gotta do is get the Streamlight TLR-7sub (model 69404) made specifically for the Hellcat. That will make me 3 CCW options with RDS and lights on them.
