I didn't carry with me a specific amount of cash. Let's say I have normally 20-50 euros (30-70USD more or less) whit me. Sometimes no euros at all. Anyway, I have always with me a silver dollar (date: 1924, a Peace Dollar http://www.silver-coins.org/1924_peace_dollar.html). My grandad gave me when I was a child: it's my amulet since :-)

not a dime. i have never been anywhere, and im from east tennessee, where i cant pay with my cc or dc. i carry my military id, dl, hg permit, and cc in a ID holder (found this thing in afghanistan @ the PX in Bagram) and will never carry another wallet. Things must have changed since my last visit to the sandbox. We paid locals off with U.S. dollars on almost a daily basis in both Iraq and Afghanistan. We bought luxury items, like toilet paper and information/cooperation with cash. Not only paying locals, but I don't think I saw any stores out in the mountains that took credit cards. no its the same. but the fact is this. I do NOT carry cash on me here. we have something called an eagle cash card that ALL soldiers are required to have if you want to buy anything ANYWHERE, other than the bazaar. im the FOO officer for my unit so i have 10,000 of your tax dollars to spend on whatever we need, so I dont carry any of my cash. i let it bankroll in the checking account. home soon. where my CC and DC work and are gladly accepted <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I was in Pizza Hut a few weeks back because I had this killer coupon. They had some internet issue and couldn't take plastic...
Off to the ATM to get my pizza. After that I have been much better about having cash. No emergency just convenient.

I don't keep cash in my BOB, but would not "bug out" without my wallet.
My wallet has (at minimum) $100 in it at all times. I usually have more cash.
In a short term emergency, the more cash you have the better.
In a TEOTWAWKI situation, cash (paper money) = worthless.
Didn't a cord of firewood cost $8,000,000,000 Marks during the 1920's German depression?
