I missed this post and asked about your promotion, Again congratulations CAPT Tucker! Yeah Jeff (Rainwalker) is still in the biz and busier than ever. I thank he MIGHT have some Vore Sheaths in plastic just hit him with an email or P from here, he checks both all the time.

Hadn't realized you had been gone THAT long. Time flies when you're not in danger.

Don't know if you remember or not, but we've got rainwalker, Azwelke, Buy Brown and I am sure others I am missing.

DUMSTER MUTT!, how Old School! haha. Seriously, glad to hear you are safe and sound and pray you will stay that way. Good luck in your career.

Re: I AM BACK! - 12/07/11 09:05 AM

It's great to hear that you're doing well.

As far as current Swamp Rat offering go, you may want to look at the RatManDu. I continue to pursue the perfect knife, and it remains in the running as an all-around workhorse. Of course, a RMD is a little larger and will be noticeably heavier than your Dumpster Mutt, but it's a very practical size, and most people find the handles quite comfortable. While G10 or paper Micarta are prettier, I prefer the feel of a canvas Micarta-handled RMD.

You'll also find both 711s and 511s in the Scrap Yard store. The 511 is a little bigger than the Dumpster Mutt and has a through-hardened SR101 blade.

Re: I AM BACK! - 12/07/11 09:22 AM

thanks for the comments fellas! i passed on the rat mandu and got a brand new black on black SR rucki with an armorall leath sheath from eric @ the store!!! been talking to him and he said my sword will ship tomorrow!! is this thing a pretty tough piece??? i worry about it breaking if im chopping hard... is the sr101 good for abuse and torturous hacking and chopping? if it fails, i will ALWAYS have my 2 dogfathers which are GREAT!

Re: I AM BACK! - 12/07/11 07:36 PM

Personally, I haven't chopped with any of my Bussekins -- I also own a lot of Himalayan Imports khukris, but I always grab the same CAK when I need to chop downed limbs; I bought it used, so that's my designated beater. However, I've heard nothing but good about SR-101. Many say that it's essentially as tough as SR-77 in real world use, but holds an edge better. If allowed to rust, SR-101 tends to pit more deeply than SR-77, but they're both very tough steels.

I passed on the Rucki because I already own three Scrap Yard Scrapizashis, which have specs that are close enough to fill the same role for me. I'm sure you'll like the Rucki though; someone brought one to show at the Golden Manor/Knob Creek pre-sale, and everyone seemed to like it. FYI, Swamp Rat also generated a lot of interest with an upcoming "War Hawk" model at the last Blade show; you may want to be on the lookout for its release:

Re: I AM BACK! - 12/07/11 10:26 PM

My waki couldn't keep up with my Battle Rat as a chopper and I'm sure the rucki won't do any better...but as a nasty weapon...that's probabaly a different story! Limb removal of a different nature!

As far as tough..c'mon Reconseed...you haven't been gone that long- sr101 will take a crazy beating...

Re: I AM BACK! - 12/08/11 04:53 AM

Welcome back!

I'm sure the Rucki will do just fine, my Waki never gave me a worry even after a 45 minute beating on tough mesquite.

Re: I AM BACK! - 12/09/11 02:27 AM

I have never chopped mesquite, but read that it is really tough wood!

Re: I AM BACK! - 12/09/11 07:31 AM

i cant remember: what is the difference between through hardened and differentially hardened? the DFCG and the DMCG are through hardened if i remember correctly....???? and the waki is as well??? can someone comment on this and clear the confusion for me? thanks.

Re: I AM BACK! - 12/09/11 08:17 AM

Not sure which knife has which treatment.

Through hardened is when the entire piece of steel has the same temper/heat treatment. Differentially hardened is when they make main portion of the steel spring tempered so it has more flex and won't snap as easily and the edge part of the blade is harder to hold an edge better.

I would imagine any of the waki type blades would need to be dif. harden, but I am no metallurgist or anything.

Re: I AM BACK! - 12/09/11 12:14 PM

you arent pulling out before the Job has been done... the job has been as done as it will get... we have been here 10 years and its the same as it was now, when i got here a year ago. but thats not the point......

i caan almost swear the SR rucki is through hardened.. seems like i remember seeing that somewhere.
