Kill Devil Hawk or Rodent Rucki

Kill Devil Hawk or Rodent Rucki - 07/23/12 07:58 AM

I just posted this for the rats on the other forum to toss around, let's see what the dogs think!

Life is full of difficult yet rewarding decisions......

This one is simple, which of the two would you pair with a 511......if you expected to be in mainly urban areas and hardwood forests (not jungle or boreal type forests) with the expectation that you'll likely need to defend yourself with it as well?

Kill Devil Hawk or Rodent Rucki?

On second thought this one may be difficult after all....

I would say 511 and Kill Devil Hawk. Obviously the 511 will be able to process food, baton, skin ect. The Kill Devil Hawk will be able to pry, easily chop, process fire wood ect. It pretty straight edge, which would prove easier to sharpen, if say we are pondering a survival situation as well. I would probably only choose the Rucki, only on the assumption that I am defending myself alot. Otherwise, I feel sharpening it would be quite tough out in the field.

KD-SH is more practical and less attention getting than a sword. The sword is a good defensive tool, but the Hawk allows you to make tools. Chop branches, sharpen into spears for traps and defense, hunting, etc.

I personally think both depend on the situation. Camping in the woods KDH, trekking through thick brush rucki. Like others have said, both is the correct answer here.

I think I have come to the same conclusion about getting both, why limit yourself right?

The Hawk offers more options.

A rucki would be more difficult to explain to a park ranger etc.

I would go with the Hawk as it gives you a wider range of application paired with a 511.

these days any sharp object is frowned on by park rangers.

I say get both but agree that the hawk would probably prove more useful. The rucki can work as a "machete" I guess. I'm not sure how it would go over with the park ranger though.

I think if you are going to be around people you have to worry about perception. For that the hawk is going to be a better bet because it is seen as a tool.

I'd also bet for someone that is not trained in bladed combat such as myself the hawk would be easier to wield in self-defense and easier to defend those actions in court. Unless they find out it is a kill devil

Saying that just made me said about society. Good think the yard is around to remind me that intelligent people are still out there
