911 Has Arrived. Bring the BIG ONE!

It came in yesterday just as I was leaving for town. Today I opened the box and admired it. It feels a lot like the DFLE in hand. It fits the 10" nylon sheath well enough. It also fits several other sheaths I have. The knife reminds me of my old trusty (and rusty) Ontario Survival Bowie. The 911 is just a bit heavier and slightly more of a blade heavy feel.


I am guessing the full flat grind and taper of the blade on the Ontario makes it lighter. The 911 came with a decent even edge (thanks Mike). The mosquitos are hell today. I'll wait for a cooler day once I get the 1311, and do a good comparison. I did enough with the 911 today to know it has the right stuff.

I got my shipping notice on Friday and the knife arrived Saturday. I was thinking of comparing it to the M9LE, but what would that prove? Only that my M9LE is a little sharper. The one I am really looking forward to giving a workout is the awesome 1311....or Scrapchete. That will be a chopping, slashing beast of a knife! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I think it would be similar. Both the 911 and DFLE are light enough for slashing brush, but heavy enough to chop well.

This isn't much of a review. I will do a thorough comparison between the 911 and 1311 when the big one arrives. I have many knives similar to the 911, but nothing like the 1311 except machetes and goloks. A 13.5" blade is longer than the BRKT golok, longer than my custom parang, longer than my kukris. This thing is going to be awesome.

I dont think their is anything in the same league as the 1311, just a beast all the way around.

Bring it. I have lots of 9" to 10" choppers, but a 13.5" blade 3/16" thick of that sweet SR101 steel. The palmettos and wood chips will be flying! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I got mine a few weeks ago and really like the feel of it. It reminds me of a DFLE too. The bad thing for me is that I had surgery, and while they were in there they took 5 hernias out--one major one. I still have 3 weeks before I can do anything that is over 10 lbs. Talk about torture, having this blade and cutting paper only is not fair; but if I was to mess up the surgery and re-injure myself I would be in a lot of torture from the pain and the wife. Guess I will have to wait for the 913 to show up!

I hope you heal fast. I am still old and slow, but at least I can still chop stuff. Hopefully, you'll be well when the BIG ONE comes out.

Some time back when Camillus closed, I bought some sheaths they had for Cold Steel. Guess what? The 911 fits the Trailmaster sheath perfectly! The 911 is a fine knife in a favorite steel of mine. I was busy with yard work today, but tomorrow I may get out and play with my 911 a bit more. Got to finish the edging first.

Seems like 911s are rolling out the door now. I ordered 2 weeks ago along with a 1311 and my credit card has already been charged for the 911.

I put a little sharper convex edge on my 911 today, not that the factory edge was bad. I just prefer them a little sharper. I think it's great that my leather Trailmaster sheath fits the 911 so well. I was carrying my Ranger RD-9 in that one. I no longer even own a Trailmaster. I bought the sheath from the Camillus sell off. It's nice to have carry options.
