Good Luck to Dogs in the NE - 10/29/12 07:36 PM

I know the wxr channel and others like to hype storms and all. But Sandy looks like a real bear. You dogs in the northeast will surely get a chance to practice your survival skills. Good luck to all of you.

Re: Good Luck to Dogs in the NE - 10/29/12 08:10 PM

fill up the gas tank and a gas can or two if you can

get as much water as you can

have cash! when the power goes out across a area there is no debit or ATM. be ready to purchase over a few weeks with cash things like ice, gas, food, and maybe even something as expensive as a chain saw or generator.

candles, batteries, radio, charcoal and/or gas for a grill, insect replellant... these are things that can help you deal with 2-3 weeks of being at home for an unknown amount of time without electricity.

hope it wont be that bad but if it does get rough being prepared will really help.

Re: Good Luck to Dogs in the NE - 10/29/12 08:34 PM

Just got the generator hooked up...

Part of me wonders just how many more trees can come down after last years storm?! But, I'm home- wife is in San Francisco worrying about her children. Calling out from a hospital job stinks, but gotta do what ya gotta do! Many schools are already figuring to be closed manana too...we'll see!

Hope to keep power and internet!

See ya Dogs!

Its pretty rainy and windy up here, the coasts are already flooded.

We have food, water and candles/flashlights.

I taped up the windows and packed a BOB with clothes, fak, flashlight and a few other things, but we expect to stay put until Wednesday.

Considering that my area is probably more at risk for looters and wrongdoers than extensive storm damage, I also made sure to keep some self defense items within easy reach and ready to rock.

Good luck to every body else out there, see you on the other side of Tuesday if power goes out.

Re: Good Luck to Dogs in the NE - 10/30/12 08:13 AM

Lots of wind. Lots of rain. Lots of trees going down in the area. Worst should be over in a couple hours. More than a quarter million people in the DC area are without power. Fortunately we aren't among them so far. Night is still young though Knock on wood.

Re: Good Luck to Dogs in the NE - 10/30/12 08:15 AM

We had planned on getting a generator long before this storm pushed in--father in law is coming in a couple weeks and will help me install the transfer switch. Too bad it wasn't a couple weeks earlier

Re: Good Luck to Dogs in the NE - 10/30/12 08:57 AM

Well,so far I still have power and no damage,but......my KD hawk was supposed to arrive today.
Key words "supposed to".
Very minor inconvenience compared to some folks.
Prayers out to all that have not been as fortunate as myself.

Re: Good Luck to Dogs in the NE - 10/30/12 09:50 PM

Nope. We're done. And no worse for the wear....I think. Haven't ventured outside yet.

Re: Good Luck to Dogs in the NE - 10/31/12 04:37 AM

Well, that was kind of anti-climatic, just a little rain and wind here.

New Jersey shore points fared much worse, but of course NYC is all that the news is focusing on, despite it going relatively unscathed compared to the shore. But of course its the most important city in the world

Best wishes going out to anyone who got hit worse than us, hope you're all safe and in one piece.

Re: Good Luck to Dogs in the NE - 10/31/12 08:26 AM

Seems like it has really been hit or miss in the east. I guess that should be expected with a storm this big. Glad you guys all seem to be OK.

Re: Good Luck to Dogs in the NE - 10/31/12 08:32 PM

Got power back a couple hours ago. Seems to have been a bad on for the CT coast. wife got her flights changed like 3x and will hopefully make it home tonight so i can get to work tomorrow! My boy is back to school today but my little girls daycare still has no power.

New generator worked great and I was happy to fire it up for a cup of coffee that 1st morning!
