So she wouldn't take your order huh? If I remember correctly, the Taliwacker was a Busse knife and their only one to be made in SR101. Tom is sure to know, I think he has an original.

Re: Taliwacker - anniversary blade...who's makin' it? - 01/31/13 10:31 PM

It was my understanding that Swamp Rat would be making it. The Tali- Whacker was the first and only Busse model to use SR101 and it gave birth to Swamp Rat Knife Works.

I am not sure but after seeing the magazine ad I know I want a couple of the knives that will be available.

I had one of the original Tali-Wacker's, and it will feel good to replace it. Bring it!

I think that Swamp's logo is somewhat visible if you look at the pic in person.

And I don't think Yard has hit 10 years yet...

Sumo is right. The Swamp Rat logo IS on the Taliwhacker CG in the Busse Happy Anniversary ad in Blade magazine.

Ok, I've got a Proposition for Dan and Jerry. MAKE THREE!

1. Taliwhacker Prestige from Busse Combat. Taliwhacker made out of INFI (of course).

2. Taliwhacker Satin or Competition Finish from the Swamp.

3. Taliwhacker CG From Dan. AND make it in Black, Tan, and Olive Drab!

Something for everyone!

Re: Taliwacker - anniversary blade...who's makin' it? - 02/01/13 03:23 PM

I think it is a little sad for the few original Taliwhacker owners, because if they reproduce a "hard to find" knife like this, the originals will lose value.

I have one of the few taliwhackers , if I remeber correctly there are only 50 taliwhackers in civilian hands.

I think it is one of the greatest knife because there are so hard to find and they mean more then just a knife, thinking on the occasion they where made for... 09/11

RS1130, From the way the Ad looks I don't think the originals will be devalued. They are marked differently. In the Anniversary ad, they are ONLY marked Swamp Rat.

Thx SkunkHunter for the info, I hope you are right !
I personally think my Taliwhacker is the most important knife in my collection. I had a real hard time to get one, and it has some personal meaning to me.

But I probally buy me a new Taliwhacker as a user because the original one is a safequeen ;-) one of the only knives I don't wanna use.

is the Ratweiler really as good as they keep saying ?

Re: Taliwacker - anniversary blade...who's makin' it? - 02/01/13 04:17 PM

IIRC, there were only 68 Tali-Whackers released to the public from a Military Overrun. And YES, they are highly cherished. Initially (the ones actually delivered to the Military) I THINK had a Busse Combat dog tag attached as well.

Re: Taliwacker - anniversary blade...who's makin' it? - 02/01/13 04:29 PM

The Ratweiler AND Chopweiler (updated Ratweiler) are very well loved by all those that have them. They are both highly sought after blades. IF you are working on building a collection, specially of the "Classic" blades one of or both these must be on the list, along with an SS4 (Street Scrapper 4).

Personally, (MY funds are very limited) I would concentrate on the harder to get (as in the older ones) first if going after a collection and regulate the newer models to the backup list. That's just me though, if your list is the ones you really want, then GOPHERIT!

Re: Taliwacker - anniversary blade...who's makin' it? - 02/01/13 04:55 PM

But I have already a pretty busse kin knife collection, I doesn't even know how manny I already have.
I know I have a few of the hard to get knives:

Tali-whacker
INFIcoot
BullDog Regulator

2x swamp rat M9 CG that jerry brought me from bladeshow
War Dog
....

Most of the other ones that i have are not that hard to find.

Do you think a Ratweiler could defeat a M9 CG in a chopping contest ?

Re: Taliwacker - anniversary blade...who's makin' it? - 02/01/13 04:58 PM

Don't really know for sure as I don't have nor have had either one. IT MIGHT depend upon the weights. The Ratweiler though is known for chopping much better than it's size would indicate.

Re: Taliwacker - anniversary blade...who's makin' it? - 02/01/13 05:01 PM

only one way to know... Getting a Ratweiler and put in the fight against my favorite M9 CG...

The M9 CG has been verry useful on hikes

When I got the Ratweiler I will try to post pictures of the chopping contest.

Re: Taliwacker - anniversary blade...who's makin' it? - 02/01/13 08:00 PM

Hey, reconscout. The new Tali-Whacker also appears to have a different grind near the tip. Which to me is not as good as the original. I think the originals will remain just as special as they have always been.

I think Dan already made a better version of the Taliwhacker when he made the Regulator Bowie.
I can't see what else a Taliwhacker could offer.

Re: Taliwacker - anniversary blade...who's makin' it? - 02/01/13 10:18 PM

The Tali-Whacker is smaller and less cumbersome than the Regulator, making it easier to carry and use. However, I STILL love my Regs. and de-Regs as well!

What are the specs on the Tali-Whacker, I can't find any, I thought it was a similar size to the Regulator ?

Re: Taliwacker - anniversary blade...who's makin' it? - 02/02/13 01:26 AM

Pit, I found a hog site that said the Taliwhacker had a 6.75 inch blade, .250 thick. Don't know about the total length or the weight.

Re: Taliwacker - anniversary blade...who's makin' it? - 02/02/13 01:28 AM

Off the top of my head, the blade of the T/W is 6 7/8" long and about 1 1/2" wide.

The reg is great, but I wish it wasn't .333" thick! .20-.25 and it would be perfect. The tip is strong as heck.

Re: Taliwacker - anniversary blade...who's makin' it? - 02/02/13 03:29 AM

I am a person who had a original Tali but let it move on to a former Marine since it was a safe queen. I think the new Tali will not be enough like the original to worry about the original loosing too much value--only value lost would be someone who would buy an original and use it. As to the Ratweiller, well I will find out when they are released!

It is so cool that you have an original Taliwacker...there were so few avaiable. Maybe you or one of the other Dogs could share a pic

Re: Taliwacker - anniversary blade...who's makin' it? - 02/10/13 09:22 PM

I would be very interested in a taliwacker since I am going army 18x in april and should be on the front line for tali faceshooting in about two years. I need a midsize blade between the yardhook and the 511/DM.

Re: Taliwacker - anniversary blade...who's makin' it? - 02/11/13 01:48 AM

A dumpster mutt would make a awesome knife for battle. It will pry open anything and cut and be useful for hand to hand if needed and easy to carry.

Re: Taliwacker - anniversary blade...who's makin' it? - 02/11/13 01:59 AM

For combat I would lean toward shorter than the Tali-whacker in length. If it is for duty, it needs to be on your belt and a 7 inch (or plus) blade is more than you really want to carry because of getting in and out of vehicles and up and down on the ground. Stick to something NO LONGER than 6 inches. It will be a utility knife MUCH MUCH more than a defensive/offensive blade.

BUT as is said, and is very true, to each his own. If that is what you want, that is what you want.

Re: Taliwacker - anniversary blade...who's makin' it? - 02/11/13 02:02 AM

Here are the specs (from the scrapyard knives spec thread)

DMCG (Dumpster Mutt Combat Grade)
Blade Length: 5.25
Blade thickness: .270
Blade height:
Overall Length: 9.75
Blade Grind: Saber
Steel type: SR77
Handle type: Black Res-c
Finish: Black Powder Coat
Weight: 9oz

Actually any of the DM variants would work.

Re: Taliwacker - anniversary blade...who's makin' it? - 02/11/13 06:47 AM

I have one of the 50 mod7 dumpster mutts, actually one of the prototypes along with the fully serrated one coldone has. I don't think I could ever bring myself to use it. I also have a 511 that would be a solid choice.

I mainly want a taliwacker cause it's classy
