Wish us luck tomorrow! (people in Connecticut)

Wish us luck tomorrow! (people in Connecticut) - 04/03/13 06:31 AM

As some of you know tomorrow lawmakers will decide our faith. Without going into details: basically if the Bill passes tomorrow it will make half of the stuff at the gun store illegal. I don't know what else to do. I have done everything... I vote, I called, emailed, sent letters to our state officials.

If this bill becomes law then I really don't know what to do. I don't want to leave the state since I have so many relatives here.

This might be just the beginning. Nothing is stopping them from banning knives, baseball bat, walking stick, hockey stick... Welcome to the Constitution state *cough* Communist state *cough*.

I apologize in advance if I'm a bit out of place. Mods: feel free to lock it if you don't think I'm allow to post things of this nature.

I can only imagine how desperate you must feel. My prayers are with you and your state,
It's so easy to feel down about what's happening to our country. But we must have hope.
If you have to move then make sure you story doesn't go untold to save others your pain.

Ken, I pray that the CT legislature does not pass this bill. Most of us here on the SY forum are outdoorsmen. We use knives, axes, and guns. Some are Republicans, some Democrats, some independents, some are even libertarians. What we share is a love of freedom. We are not particularly political on this forum, but some issues cry out for comment. If the government goes after the guns, they will go after the knives. The horror that happened at Sandy Hook school is no reason to punish those who had nothing to do with it. Good luck.

My prayers are with us all. I truly worry that there will be a spark that sets something off beyond the expectations of those that would ban firearms. Not anticipating, not hoping. Just worried. I've never seen divisiveness at this level before in this nation. I've never seen the polarization before that's occurring. I'm not sure the nation can predict the impact that this sort of legislation might have.

Maybe it can. Maybe that's what the 1.6 billion rounds of hollow point ammo for DHS are for...I pray for peace and cooler heads to prevail. I pray that the wisdom that drafted our Constitution might distill on the minds of our current lawmakers.

I also hope that the voices or reason will be heard and these FREEDOM LIMITING laws fail, in a historic fashion.

You're welcome in PA if it all goes down the tubes up there.

Politicians at every level are emboldened by promises of campaign funding (or threats of de-funding) by singularly powerful and wealthy individuals in this nation.

At the same time, Federal politicians are calling out to their state colleagues in a blatant show of disrespect for the 10th Amendment.

Along with DogTired, I'm worried that a spark will find the powder keg <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

For now I'll cross my fingers and hope CT comes through today with their State Constitution upheld.

It echoes the words of the PA Constitution:

Quote
“Every citizen has a right to bear arms in defense of himself and the state” (Art. I, § 15)

sadly that quote is also in the Ct Constitution...Most people in CT have totally forgot about it.

Not to take any focus away from what is happening in CT but I've been keeping an eye on what has been going on in Maryland. Here is the latest from one of the delegates from Maryland.

It passed?

Re: Wish us luck tomorrow! (people in Connecticut) - 04/04/13 03:53 AM

It passed the Senate and is still going at the House of Representatives. Doesn't look good for us at this point...

Re: Wish us luck tomorrow! (people in Connecticut) - 04/04/13 03:35 PM

It is over. Gov. Malloy already said he will sign it. It's only a matter of time. The last few days had been really stressful for people in CT both the antis and the pro 2A. There is still hope in court. This can not be constitutional as it bans pretty much most of the semi-auto rifles out there.

Didn't I hear that CT has it in the state constitution that the people have the right to protect themselves or arm themselves for protection? I can't remember the exact wording.

OK, it's listed a couple times higher up on this page.

<sarcasm on> What you ingnorant, red neck, gun lugging neanderthals don't seem to understand is those old guys only meant SINGLE shot muskets! There's no way they could have anticipated rifles with todays firepower in civilian hands <sarcasm off>

History may show this single topic as the beginning of the unraveling of America.

Re: Wish us luck tomorrow! (people in Connecticut) - 04/04/13 05:08 PM

I feel bad for the good people of CT. The news media are all buzzing about tyranny's next victory in MD. Beretta may leave MD if they pass restrictive gun laws there. All this gun grabbing is creating a real rush at the gun shops.

Re: Wish us luck tomorrow! (people in Connecticut) - 04/04/13 05:21 PM

Ah man, this sucks. Will this force Colt, Stag, CMT, to move to a more friendly state? Do these guys not look at economical repercussions this causes?

Nope they just do the feel good thing.... Idiots

Re: Wish us luck tomorrow! (people in Connecticut) - 04/04/13 05:39 PM

Mark President and CEO of Stag Arms already said he is considering going to another state. What is the point of staying in CT when the state is saying the products that they make is so bad that their citizens are not allowed to buy?

Or so-far-gun-friendly Virginia...CT, sorry for your collective loss and the stupidity of your leaders. Throw them out next election.

Yes, we need more good folks to move into VA and make sure we stay that way.

BTW, we passed gun legislation recently too.

Quote
S.B. 1378, increases penalties for individuals who knowingly assist prohibited persons in illegally obtaining firearms.

VA decided punishing people that break laws would be more useful. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />

Re: Wish us luck tomorrow! (people in Connecticut) - 04/06/13 02:43 AM

Isn't it great, you can go from a law abiding, tax paying citizen to a felon with the stroke of a pen.

On Fox News this morning a 15 year old girl from CT that is active at her gun club and shoots competitively said that with the new law if she took her guns out of state for a competition she could not bring them back in.

This is getting serious!

Tell me about it I haven't been sleeping well since I found out about this Bill. No more AR15, M1A, M1 Garand basically any rifle that is semi-auto. I went to our LGS and it was so empty, not because they don't have anything to sell, because they couldn't sell half of their stuff due it them being "illegal" to sell.

M1, M1 Carbine too? Guy next door and I were just talking about them and thought they didn't make the list! Ruger mini 14 isn't on list- unless it has pistol grip I believe...'cause it's extra dangerous with the different grip and stock! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

Re: Wish us luck tomorrow! (people in Connecticut) - 04/06/13 06:29 PM

I guess Ruger will be selling a bunch of Mini-14s in CT if they are still legal. Good weapon. I accumulated a bunch of high capacity magazines for mine over the years. I even found some real Ruger 20 rd mags. While not quite as accurate as some AR-15s, for close range protection, they will do the job.

Re: Wish us luck tomorrow! (people in Connecticut) - 04/07/13 02:22 AM

I'm a bit confused with the new Bill. Most magazine feed semi autos are banned (if you own it now you get to keep it if you register it by the end of the year, but you can't buy anymore )even if they did not make the list (ban by feature not by name). If it can take detachable magazines and it has a pistol grip then it's a definite no no. the M1 garand might be ok since it doesn't take in a "magazine". The "clip" with the M1 doesn't count??

I think they might have overlooked something too. before this new bill, 6 position stocks were not legal. It looks after you register it you can have as many "evil" features as you want (New bill is taking over the old AWB). I'm not sure how true this is since I'm no lawyer but I read the new bill twice and it does look pretty promising...

I'm going to build a bolt gun for the time being. Hopefully we will win in court and repel this thing all together.
