New Website ... Mixed Feelings

New Website ... Mixed Feelings - 08/31/13 01:30 PM

The new website is up, but I have mixed feelings.

Great new format & no separate order page. Looks professional.
Unfortunately the prices have increased, some significantly. For instance, the 511 is now 119.95! smirk

Also, no 1111 available...

Re: New Website ... Mixed Feelings - 08/31/13 02:59 PM

The unfortunate thing about waiting is sometimes the things we want are gone. You are lucky not to remember the days when a few blades were available for 5 minutes. Get the knives when they come available and you don't have to worry about missing out on them.

Re: New Website ... Mixed Feelings - 08/31/13 04:47 PM

What was the 511 before?
Posted By: Hobbes

Re: New Website ... Mixed Feelings - 08/31/13 04:55 PM

The 511 price before was $89.95. The 411 was $79.95, the 711 was $119.95 and the 911 was $169.95.

Re: New Website ... Mixed Feelings - 08/31/13 06:21 PM

The 711 started at $119 but aparently that was the SR77 price. It was $139 I think before it was raised this time. Although I seem to remember them being $150 in the latest Ganzaa, maybe the urban camo was a $10 charge.

Re: New Website ... Mixed Feelings - 08/31/13 06:27 PM

Well, I got my 711 for $119 and its SR101. Must have been an introductory offer. I sure wouldn't mind for some SR77 to come back to the yard! Especially for a big chopper! I'll take SR77 prices and give up some of the edge holding of SR101 on bigger knives.

Re: New Website ... Mixed Feelings - 08/31/13 07:07 PM

The original price for the 711 was not an introductory offer. I clearly remember it being a mistake.

Re: New Website ... Mixed Feelings - 08/31/13 07:17 PM

It was a mistake but for those of us quick enough it was a sweet deal.

Re: New Website ... Mixed Feelings - 08/31/13 11:04 PM

Wow, didn't know about the increase in prices. Really don't know what to say. Guess they have to pay for the new websites somehow.

Re: New Website ... Mixed Feelings - 08/31/13 11:06 PM

Could we have paid for it over time??? Lol

Re: New Website ... Mixed Feelings - 08/31/13 11:46 PM

Re: New Website ... Mixed Feelings - 08/31/13 11:51 PM

Re: New Website ... Mixed Feelings - 08/31/13 11:56 PM

I know they are the best knives out there. I'm just worried at what the future will hold for the price to performance ratio

Re: New Website ... Mixed Feelings - 08/31/13 11:58 PM

I had a job but my employed stabbed me in the back and let me go after he said he would work with my school schedule. I'm looking again for work. My machine program last 9 months. And then places in my area are hiring for $16-$22 an hour

Re: New Website ... Mixed Feelings - 09/01/13 06:21 AM

I like the new site as well, it will, as all change does, take some getting used to.

We all want new knives and "Swag" RIGHT NOW, just the way we envision it. But we (I know I do) forget that The Busse Boys have a lot of military and probably LE business that they give priority to (and I for one am glad they do). PLUS, is appears also getting stuff for fantasy land, AKA Hollywood.

I forget that sometimes then remind myself that I KNOW they are doing the best they can FOR ALL OF US.

Keep the Faith Dogs, and remember

LONG LIVE THE BROTHERHOOD OF THE YARD!

Re: New Website ... Mixed Feelings - 09/01/13 12:48 PM

Maybe Dan can make up for it with a JYD special, as promised. Not only some new offerings, but perhaps a limited-time discount on small orders of knives from the 11 line.

Ya never know. Dan has thrown us a curve before.

Re: New Website ... Mixed Feelings - 09/01/13 10:36 PM

i certainly don't know the reasons for the price increase but some here's some things to think about.

don't know what cart they were using before but i suspect it didnt cost much. probably some design and matainence. i know this new cart does cost and probably and probably wasn't cheap to get setup. it will also probably require a little more time (payroll) to operate these new sites. i was actually surprised that the busse group did 4 separate carts since last I checked it's 4 times the money and it's actually a bit over kill for a handful of knives and random gear. I probably would've cheaped out myself and merged all four carts somehow. again i dont know the details but there's money being spent here. remember the old "two weeks"?

i would think that in order to keep these items in stock and shipping on a regular basis there is a larger investment in the inventory and how they handle it. if they keep churning out knives on a regular basis and are keeping them in stock that would probably also mean an investment in staff and the infrastructure to handle it all.

we are buying direct. pretty sure they could sell a lot more knives if they stuck them on a pallete and sent them out to retail joints in a pretty box. but the brand would also get lost in the crowd and we would still pay the same or more. and the product value would decrease! there is a reason you user can sell for as much as it can. good luck finding one in a clearance bin! when there's no retailers dumping stock at their cost on eBay it's a lot easier to have a busse style warranty. plus you can connect with your customer base and actually give them what they want instead on dishing out the cheapest thing you can toss on the market.

i suspect that after having made it through the recession they are finally getting around to charging what they needed to 4 years ago since the plans that are happening now still cost money back then. smile

hopefully the big dog will keep up with his buyer incentives and special pricing. and the lucky dogs will continue to feel lucky.

EL MUK!!!!! wink

Re: New Website ... Mixed Feelings - 09/02/13 12:07 AM

Are items kept in stock? I didn't hear that there was no wait time after order.

I'm sure there was some cost, but is SY becoming something other than the budget knife it was originally created to be? Looking more like the low end of a very expensive brand.

Re: New Website ... Mixed Feelings - 09/02/13 12:50 AM

Busse Combat is for the Niemann-Marcus crowd, Swamp Rat for the Target shoppers, and Scrap Yard is for us in the Wal-Mart gang. grin

Re: New Website ... Mixed Feelings - 09/02/13 03:03 AM

If it's Wal-Mart, then I hope that Dan can "roll back" the prices for us.

Re: New Website ... Mixed Feelings - 09/02/13 05:09 AM

My dreams of owning a Busse someday seem to be fading frown

I always thought of SY as scoring a diamond at Five Below grin

I've owned and sold a Busse. You aren't missing out. Same sharp steel with a prettier finish

I just noticed the price jumps and they really aren't much in the grand scheme. I really do hope the increases are going to support better pay for the staff. As the labor force matures with the company they deserve raises and will turn out a better product. All part of doing good business.
