Danta Claus And The New Offering

Dogs, as many of you know we had an intense and engrossing conversation to determine what would be the best handle to grace an EDC style knife. Being blade aficionados and more importantly, Canines of the Courtyard, you determined that a handle that was proven in muck and mire was the best fit for the job. The Mudder Handle has a following like no other and it has adorned many a fine edge from Scrap Yard.

Your deafening howls then led to the debate of the most appropriate blade design to match the power grip of the Mudder. A consensus was arrived at that a knife with at least a 5” long blade was the best way to go. So, a blade design that is bled from the Scrap Yard coat of arms has been coupled with a Mudder handle to deliver an unsurpassed level of performance by design alone.

I found the steel on one of my hunts in the warehouse. Under a dirt ridden, tarp covered pallet in an unlighted section of the warehouse I found the thinnest SR-101 steel (.140”) ever acquired by Scrap Yard Knives. Despite it's lack of girth, it has tested out with outrageous results stemming from our time proven heat treat process. Our lords of torture were befuddled by the unrelenting strength of this lean but statuesque blade. Known as the Mud Mutt, it takes SR-101 to uncharted performance levels.

This knife turnout real nice. the feel, the look, all of it and the best part is that came from the input of the Yard. We tested the living day lights out of it since it was so thin for SR101. We really could not get over its performance...so very cool

I have been waiting for a light weight 5 inch package for some time. I have passed on so many knives that tickled my fancy. I am looking forward to the specs.

I wouldn't mind seeing something like a special Scrap Yard barking dog trademark cut into the side like the they are on the Scrapivores. I have to say that I like that just a bit.

i also saw the black mudders in the photobucket pics. I want at least one in black - and something else.

Not sure I'd call that a SMALL sharpening choil…maybe in Busse terms? Definitely not a choil intended for uses other than sharpening. I want to say the term Elf Choil has been used before. Perhaps a good choice now, considering it's the holidays and all

Yeah, that's what I meant. It looks about the same size as the Rodent Solution's choil.

So some comparisons to the Scrapper 5 is in order. About. 047 thinner, 1/2 inch shorter, straighter spine. ....
For this one, a full flat grind and orange mudders would make it perfect.

Idk, I'd say it is probably more similar to the 411, just thinner and a tad longer (which is AWESOME).

I'd love to see this offered as full-flat with orange res-c, but I suspect it will be saber-ground to keep strength up.

Careful to draw conclusions just yet. Dan hasn't released the length yet. Looking at the pictures…I'm guessing 5.5-5.75" length, based on an understanding that the Mudders are "just shy" of 5" in length. Just a guess though, I could be way off.

Yeah, the more I look at it, the more it looks like it's closer to 6" instead of 5". I wonder if they took it to a higher Rockwell than 60? That would be pretty sweet!

To be honest the pictures didn't wow me like recent offerings, but I started reading. This may be one of the best all-around knives put out by the yard for under $100. Love the sheath option!

Mud puppy would be a nice complement. I don't find much need for so much blade length generally.

From Dan's description, it sounds like a thinner 511 blade on a Mudder handle. Since the main complaint about the 511 is the short handle, and the secondary complaint is the fat axe-like grind, this could be one excellent upgrade starting with thinner stock. I'll definitely get two with sheaths.

THINFI.....oh wait. Great looking blade. Bummer about the black res c. What color is the offering handle? And I thought it was all worked out that we would get the old dog logo on the new one!!!!????? Maybe a cool option for JYDs only? And maybe the black res c for the 10 k club?....just a few thoughts.

I'll buy an extra. I have a whole collection based solely on spare knives. The problem is, unless I lose one, I use the first one for about forever and the others just get pushed further to the bottom.

I something from Busse REALLY catches my eye I generally buy two if I can afford it As one NEVER knows for sure if it will be available again and if so at what cost. It also allows me some room for gifting etc to keep the Godkids from planning my early and unexpected death...

The only one I have doubles of is the 5-11. One is a user. One is strapped to my bug out bag.

That way, I don't have to look for a knife to grab--I've always got one when I need to leave.

Snake, The Santaganzaaa is just like any other ganzaaa that they have, but since it is around Christmas....

The Mud Mutt is completely separate offering from the Ganzaaa. The Ganzaaa will offer blades from all three sections of Busse Combat whereas the MM is a Scrapyard offering only.

I agree. I would prefer 4" to 5" I think. However, I like all non choppers thin so I am going to have to get some.

I really appreciate Scrap Yard's knife photos on the website for sale/ordering. They're consistently from a neutral point of view, showing a true perspective on blade-to-handle ratio. I'm often unsure what to expect from photos of Busse knives for sale, but Scrap Yard is doing a great job.

That said, the point of view of the sample Mud Mutt photo is far from neutral. Hoping when it finally goes up for sale we can get a better--meaning more neutral--perspective.

So, is this going to be the infamous "two weeks" or what?

I skipped over an offering that I would have really liked to have had in the SantaGanzaaa so that I still had enough funds for 2 of these.

It should be online for ordering soon. It was announced last week. I hope that it will be on the website for at least a few weeks. The 1311's were up for about a month.

Shotgun, even if it isn't what you call a slicer grind, what with being only .140 inch thick and even though it is a sabre grind, it shouldn't be all that difficult to re-profile the edge to the way you want it.

Luck of the draw with any production/semi production blade. Usually good results from Bussekin, but once in a while, one needs to be reground/reprofiled...
