What Should I do

What Should I do - 10/09/14 06:05 PM

Dogs

It has been one insane but a good summer. We successfully moved to our new home but we are still living out of boxes. I guess that will be the case for months to come. I am concerned that we cannot find the box that cradles my Makers...those movers looked a little shifty LOL...my son and his friends. It will show up eventually and I can do some serious bourbon therapy.

While I wait for this treasure hunt to conclude I was thinking I should do something special for you Dogs. So here is your chance to provide some input.

Give me any ideas and I will take them into serious consideration. No idea is dumb or silly. I cannot guarantee that I will use your idea but here is your chance to influence me smile

Lets here it

Thanks

Dan

Something thin and pointy around 4 inches in satin would be nice.

I would be happy to receive my Challenge Coin Victory knife. blush

An 8" Infi bladed knife with a Res-C handle would be sweet as well! grin

I think an updated Challenge coin with the option of engraving your JYD numbber on it. They can do some really great stuff now.

That I would make a pre-order though. Having done hundreds of them I never had one commissioned without a pre-order.

Re: What Should I do - 10/09/14 08:19 PM

I'll float another...SS4 Skinny...1/8" thick...in sr 101...

Actual that and the kukri would be a sweet set!
Posted By: Andy the Aussie

Re: What Should I do - 10/09/14 09:10 PM

I am a kukri kind of guy as well...!!

I would also be up for something large with a Regulator grip, along the FBM style of thing.

The Mega Regulator or Super Regulator or Regulator XL has some merit as well.

I am also another that is enamoured with the idea of "magnum mudder" grips...!!! Attached to an appropriately sized blade !!

At the other end of the spectrum, the Skeleton Key is one of my favourite Busse blades, I have a couple but one I got from Dave Brown (used by him for some of his 1/4 punching escapades) is probably my most carried and used blade (as despite my best efforts the ASH1 just does not work as a neck knife!!!!!) . A similar "long" thin blade from you would be a must have for me..!!!!!

Re: What Should I do - 10/09/14 09:53 PM

I'd be down for another Kukri, since I've already a few, but one from the Yard, yes smile

just waiting until I get a small bonus from the Army, then I'll have some money to play with. So, anything really, Dan! laugh

Re: What Should I do - 10/10/14 04:24 AM

I am a huge fan of big blades. Not fantasy blades but utility which the yard has only ever done utility. That is part of why i like sykco so much... So... I would like a kukri or something along the lines of a golok.

Re: What Should I do - 10/10/14 06:51 AM

I would like to have a 5" inch blade, with a full size choil, FFG and Basic handles. Nothing beats the Basic handle IMO.

Bladeshape should mimic that of the ASH-1.

3/16'ish thickness.

The finish should be blued or Parkerized (think it's the right word) like those Regulators we saw a while back.
Posted By: JarheadJournalist

Re: What Should I do - 10/10/14 11:51 AM

I am in the kukri camp. I live my 1311, but would prefer a bit more heft and angle for chopping. So, I vote for a heavy camp axe style kukri.
Posted By: Feldgrun

Re: What Should I do - 10/10/14 03:18 PM

Thinner blade thickness (Mudd Mutt) on the 311 and extend the blade length to 4.11".
Posted By: t1m0

Re: What Should I do - 10/10/14 05:12 PM

El-Muk! Of course!

Or a 6"-7" thin blade with no choil and mudder handles.

INFI DASH...sounds like an Olympic event grin
Posted By: DogTired

Re: What Should I do - 10/12/14 10:37 PM

INFI DASH
Yard Kukhri
Dog-chette
INFI 1111
Parkerized War Dog
INFI Safety 411
Dog DSF
Dog Jack
el Muk (skinny)
Yard Axe (not a hawk--make it a camp axe grin )
Scrap Fillet (thin elmax 6 or 7 inch fillet knife with orange mudders)
Doglok (Dog Golok)

Stuff here might interest me...especially if it's inexpensive or free. Love for the 10K and over crowd? grin

A Kukri sounds cool too though!

Or a Folder! LOL! grin

Re: What Should I do - 10/15/14 01:16 PM

Howdy all. Hey Dan, thank you for being open to ideas. Like I said, my vote's for a kukri, with an 11" blade and a res-c handle, but if it's priced higher than a 1111 it's going to be hard for me to purchase as I'm saving for my kids' education in this crazy don't-know-where-we're-going-world. At the same time, I would like a beast of a tool that'll last and that I can use hard. Thanks, again. I know you have your own factors you need to consider.

Re: What Should I do - 10/15/14 04:49 PM

Hey Dan,
I have some other input to give - well maybe not for this time but for some other - if you put up another retro model for production for Blade or Knob, why not make it also available for the dogs that canīt be there - from Europe or Australia itīs just....expensive for a day trip wink
That woudnīt even require to create something different and if just postet via pm to the YDs or just allow to order with their YD number will keep all the people not participating in the brotherhood out...
Just something I was thinking about today while attending some stupid meeting about the new digital radio network in Germany
Posted By: SkunkHunter

Re: What Should I do - 10/15/14 04:54 PM

CZ, right now the top three "Choppers" are the 1311, 1111 and the 911. Now IF you are lucky enough to score a Dog Father, you've got the Great Grizzled Grand Daddy of them all! Yes, it's THAT good.
Posted By: cz9r

Re: What Should I do - 10/15/14 11:02 PM

@SkunkHunter - LOL smile I'm a beginner shooter so for now it's just 9mm, pocket pistols, and my long guns. Have a 1111 on the way. I'm hoping it will be both a good chopper and something of a short sword. I would love to have a SYKCO quality kukri that wasn't as expensive as a Busse Killa Zilla because I've had good experiences with kukri's in the past.
Posted By: DogTired

Re: What Should I do - 10/15/14 11:31 PM

Want a short sword? Get a Rodent Waki over at the Swamp. 1311 is more of a solid machete. 1111? I'd love to snag one someday, but my Dogfather sufficeth smile

Welcome to the Yard CZ grin
Posted By: SkunkHunter

Re: What Should I do - 10/16/14 12:00 AM

CZ, I think you will be more than satisfied with the 1111. It's close to the Legendary DogFather so as DT says, It will sufficeth. smile

Re: What Should I do - 10/16/14 06:42 PM

The furry guy means the Rodent Rucki from swamprat wink I have it and itīs a real nice and quick blade!
For a Kukri I love my CS Ghurka Kukri plus (dosenīt need to be the san mai version, sk5 is plenty!) - until we get a scrap one smile
Posted By: cz9r

Re: What Should I do - 10/16/14 10:37 PM

Thanks everyone. I considered the Rucki before, but I wanted something I'd use on a more regular basis outdoors, which is a chopper/wood processor. Every time I started to save enough for a Rucki, I ended up putting it into a firearm. Yal have made me feel welcome here, and I appreciate it. The Yard is a good place to be.
Posted By: greaser

Re: What Should I do - 10/16/14 11:44 PM

I own the rucki as well and love it one with a mudder version of a longer reg handle would be sick.
Posted By: rth548

Re: What Should I do - 10/17/14 06:44 AM

I'd still like a re-release of the Mud Puppy, call it a SE and don't worry about the numbers.
Posted By: feederle

Re: What Should I do - 10/17/14 07:59 AM

To short of a blade for me, the rodent solution already is way too short as well as the 311 (only SY I sold...) in my opinion
Posted By: Private Klink

Re: What Should I do - 10/17/14 12:32 PM

I STILL think an 8" clip-point would be sweet! grin
Posted By: DogTired

Re: What Should I do - 10/17/14 05:27 PM

Yeah...Rodent Rucki...that's what I meant. Must've been the drugs talking...unless of course I posted that before surgery, in which case it was just stupidity talking grin

Whatever is made I hope it's under $200. A Scrap Zilla with a 13-15" blade at 0.25" thick with a basic or Regulator handle for $150 would be nice grin You don't need to make a profit, right Dan?

Any of my other suggestions would be good too. Of course, you might want to make a prototype of each and send it to me free for "testing." I won't even charge a fee for the reviews! I'm just that cheap...er...I mean nice of a Dog.

It would make for a great combo!!

[Linked Image from i432.photobucket.com]

As aside for my other thought...a Skinny SS4 would be great b/c the SS4 was released a looong time ago and there are not a ton of them out there. Also, done in SR101 it would be a great bang for the buck!

Look forward to seeing whatever you kick out in any case.

Copied this from the BOAR Film thread.

OK, when you contact Dan this is what you refer to.

Nice artwork as usual!

How about we compromise on a BOAR commemorative set?

The Pork Poker--11" narrow pointy uncoated pig sticker with a Mudder or Regulator or even a Basic handle? Kinda like an oversized Taliwhacker without the tanto tip.

The Swine Slayer 9

The Hog Hammer--an 8" wide-belly clip point Bowie knife with a Regulator handle

The Boar Dog--Randy's karambit blade. Maybe 3" AND 5" options?

All in favor, say "aye" (or "bark")!

Here's another vote for an axe of some sort.

Preferably in SR77.

Or, to run a bit on the crazy side, I've had a hankering for a cleaver recently.

8" blade, 4" wide, 1/8" thick, convex grind, Mudder handle.
As a tool intended for chopping, Scrapyard steel and heat treat are already ideal.
Not that it can't be used for everything else too, thin stock would be better for when you're cutting vegetables (and make the price more reasonable).

I'd really like to see a light weight yet full sized hiking blade. 7 OAL with a 1/8 inch thick blade but not too tall. One inch tall max on the blade. Something akin to the fallniven wm1 only with SR101 and res-c. Something in between the size of the 311 and the scrapivore.

There is no doubt the Regulator handle does work. But I am like a lot of others, it isn't my favorite.
Posted By: Scrapper

Re: What Should I do - 12/19/14 06:37 AM

For some time I have been wanting a smaller knife with the larger Res-C handle. I think the smallest knife to ever wear the Large Res-C handle was the Scrapper 6 with a 6.5" blade.

I would like to see a knife similar to the 511 with a large Res-c handle and a large choil or no choil.

If that idea is too crazy then maybe something little more practical like a two handed Regulator sword.

Dan, Your mission should you choose to accept it, is to Infiltrate the janitors closet and acquire the top secret plans for the Busse Basic 8. You will need at least a case of Bourbon to distract the janitor and make your escape. Once the plans are in hand, you will need to intercept one of Jerry's INFI shipments and grind as many Scrap Yard 811's as you can, all before Jerry sobers up. As always, should any member of your team be caught or killed, I guess we'll just go back to waiting 2 weeks.

He has been MIA for 3 months come Sunday. That's a long time for Dan to have not popped in for something.

We may have to substitute Dan for Waldo.

Re: What Should I do - 01/24/15 10:28 AM

Usually Dan comes through when he throws up a ball. But this time, he sure takes his sweet time catching that ball...

Taking thing things in perspective; the new business profile of Bussekin must leave much less capacity for fun projects for us.

All we can do, is wait and dull our nerves this other brands.

I have the new Lionsteel T.R.E. in my sights cool

Re: What Should I do - 01/24/15 02:42 PM

Jerry finally popped off with a hint on Bladeforums...can Dan be far behind? grin

LOL, I got confirmation that Dan is still alive and well just busy at the shop.

Re: What Should I do - 02/02/15 10:23 PM

Someone here (Randy, perahps) was tracking the timeline statistics of new releases. Wonder how long it's been now..? Maybe not that long, but since I haven't been consumed by any of the latest, it seems like a long time.

Here's to hoping for the future!

Re: What Should I do - 02/23/15 06:53 AM

Honestly, the lack of communication is a big reason I've eased out of the Yard. Too many empty promises to suit me.

I still check in from time to time but rarely post just because of that reason.

You wanna feel REALLY lonely, hang out in the Swamp!
Posted By: feederle

Re: What Should I do - 02/23/15 05:07 PM

Does the Swamp also get any special items for ordering?
Posted By: MonkeyBomb

Re: What Should I do - 02/23/15 06:55 PM

The swamp is slow but there is a core 4 or 5 that keep it going. Plus they have a rep from Ohio that makes pointy sharp stuff there every day.

We have 4 or 5 that post regularly here but we are have been missing one thing lately.

I used to hang out here because it was really nice to be able to talk with the guy that made the things we loved to buy and use.

The Yard REALLY needs to hear something from Dan!!! frown

What is this Dan you speak of?
Posted By: Private Klink

Re: What Should I do - 02/23/15 07:54 PM

He's the one who started this forum, and seemed happy and proud of it, and made all of us proud to belong. Seems he forgot about The Brotherhood of The Yard. frown

Re: What Should I do - 02/23/15 07:57 PM

Oh yeah that guy. Man I totally forgot about him!
Posted By: Private Klink

Re: What Should I do - 02/23/15 08:27 PM

I REALLY don't understand his absence, unless there is something majorly wrong in his life.
Posted By: rth548

Re: What Should I do - 02/23/15 09:25 PM

Even if there is something going on, someone should let us know. Renee posts here from time to time, and even Jerry has an account.

The lack of communication is inexcusable.
Posted By: DogTired

Re: What Should I do - 02/23/15 09:29 PM

So, to answer Dan's question: "What should I do?" I think the answer is "show up and chat with us."

Well stated D/T! smile

Re: What Should I do - 02/25/15 01:59 AM

Perhaps he is cooking up something really, really good and he wants us to be stirred up when he announces it.

I still wish he would drop a hint or something.

I am also a little surprised and disappointed to see no Yard offerings in the Ganzaaaaa. Maybe fewer MO offerings with the drawdown?

Re: What Should I do - 02/25/15 04:45 AM

Agreed it was a bit strange and disappointing to not have any yard offerings in this ganza.
