OK, we all know that the Yard is part of the Busse Knife Group Triad. SO with that in mind, IF The balloon goes up and you could have only three knives from each company (only 3 knives at a time, not 9), what would they be?

Scrapyard:
1. I changed my mind. Make my big one the 1311. It would be better for clearing off ground cover and being longer would of course allow you to reach higher.

2. The S5 (I just wish it was INFI)

3. No contest, the Muppy (Mud Puppy). I LOVE this blade! I think it is Dan's best design to date. If you have one you know what I mean, if you don't there's no way I can describe "The Feel" to you. It fits my hand like a custom fitted glove. I would REALLY like to say the SS4 as this is another classic blade that I hope to one day own, but for me I feel as if the Muppy would be a better fit.

Swamp Rat:
1. The Ratweiler or Chopweiler, either one would work. Again, a couple classic blades, that if Bill Gates were my uncle I would hit him up for a loan just so I could add these to my meager collection.

2. I would say a Ratmandu (even though I don't have one) as so many folks have stated it is a premiere midsize blade.

3. The VEX. My Swamp Warden with Bill Piatt grips (Thanks again DT), would be a serious contender in this as well.

Busse Combat:
1. I FORGOT MY BWM! THAT WOULD BE THE TOP CHOICE.

2. Skinny ASH1 in INFI. Heck, I'd even take an SR101 in 3/16 inch. After handling the BGASH1, I think that for me it is just to heavy, and I think that a skinny ASH1 would be one of my all time favorites in this size range. Heck, it might even become my number 1 choice in this size. I THINK that I would even give up my BGASH and TRASH for a Skinny (.185-.187 which ever they are).

3. Skinny (anorexic ?) Basic 4 in INFI. I think that a complete INFI set would be nice.
OK DOGS, you have the equation , so what would your answer be to the problem?

I changed my "Wishes" up some after thinking I never said it was knives we had to already have.

Re: 3 Companies 9 Blades - 10/13/15 04:36 AM

Scrapyard:
1. Test Team Regulator - Great size, beast, perfect handle, full flat grind!
2. Scrapizashi - more reach than anything else, can chop wood and heads
3. SS4 - great size for small work and INFI

Swamprat:
1. KDSH - Wrapped handle. Hawk is very useful and the 550 wrap is my preference over solid slabs
2. Vex - D2 version wonderful small blade that takes a great edge. One of my favorites
3. Chopweiler - why not nice big blade

Busse Combat:
1. High street - useful shape, thin, pointy, usable choil
2. Public Defender - gotta have a tanto in the list
3. Basic 11 - (I prefer the SY FDM) big Busse INFI chopper.

Re: 3 Companies 9 Blades - 10/13/15 09:25 PM

Hmm... from what I have used and didn't sell:

SY: 1311, 711, 411

SR: Rucki, KDSH, Rat Warden

Busse: AK47, B9, Meaner HACK

It is really hard to choose between the AK/Ruck & the B9/B8, and Meaner HACK/B4 Anorexic but I suppose I listed it how I would have to choose based off of most used/carried.

I know we have done something like this before, but don't know if it included all three companies. I will have to look up some of the blades mentioned to see what they look like.

That 711 is a keeper, and I pity the fool, who hasn't got one.

The Vex is just so neat.

Busse:

Really, nothing beats the SFNO Le, as an all rounder.

Yard- wiener dog, scrapper 5 and DF.

Rats- bandicoot, howling rat and battle rat.

Busse- leaner meaner, sfno and...competition sarsquatch.

Just guesses on a lot of these since I don't have 1st hand experience with some of them. A chopper and smaller knife covers a lot of ground IMO.

feederle, I find it interesting you didn't list a midsize or a smaller blade in your Busse picks. Interesting.

Re: 3 Companies 9 Blades - 10/21/15 11:06 AM

Hey Randy,
don´t you concider the RS Trail or the Mutt Mud as smaller knifes? I would even call the RMD mid size...

Re: 3 Companies 9 Blades - 10/21/15 11:19 AM

Finally found the specs for the rat:
Swamp Rat Rodent Trail

Blade Length: 4-1/4”
Blade Width: 1”
Overall Length: 9”
Blade Thickness: .187”
Grind: Flat
Steel: SR101 58-60Rc

More the small/mid size for me...

And I do carry some folders...
I had my go at the 311 and the 511 but they somehow didn´t feel right (511 should have the big handle...)
