Return of the REGULATOR

Return of the REGULATOR - 10/22/15 04:55 AM

???
I'm wondering if we might ever see this epic blade return to the FOR SALE section.... this knife is setting the bar here in South Africa. So many of my friends are logging onto the knife exchange every day to see if they can score one.... My training partner were lucky enough to get one last week from ebay.

Do you guy's think we may see the return of this monster fighting killing machine???

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/22/15 06:43 AM

Is it the handle, the blade ot the combination that makes it so awesome for you, Anton?
I guess you have handled quite a number of knifes wink

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/22/15 08:23 AM

The handle mostly... and yes I have had and handled tons of fixed blades.

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/22/15 10:25 AM

Maybe you should offer to team up with Dan to create the ultimate fighting knife - I bet he would acknowledge your experience!

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/22/15 10:27 AM

Until then your best bet would be the Ganzas (I did get my hollow ground Reg there) or Knob/Blade... I guess you could get a bunch to have some for your guys

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/22/15 05:50 PM

If Regulators pop up from Dan, I'd buy one or two! grin

I have a few Regulators and de-Regulators myself...awesome blades! wink

Anton
I'm wondering if you ever tried the TGLB? Its about the same weight as the Regulator, maybe even less. The handle is supposed to be very comfortable as well. I ordered a Battle Grade version just to check it out. Though the BG version should weigh a little bit more...

INFI does feel lighter than sr101
Posted By: Massive Metal

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/23/15 02:06 AM

The Regulator is about 16oz the TGLB I've seen between 14.5oz and almost 17oz. The BGTG though doesn't have the LB treatment its .22" as opposed to.25" so I'm thinking about 17-18oz's...if its less I'll be happy

Mmm.... team up with Dan! Now that will be something, I might just send him a email.

Anyway... the first ever action movie Made in South Africa will be done next year, I signed on about three weeks ago "fighting co-ordinator"
I will do my best to get a Regulator in of the scenes. Can't use it in a action scene but will try and get it some other way. The shortfilm will be made in Febuary. Super excited to get this going!!

What with You working on this movie and Andy working on Boar, we got the Industry infiltrated. Now all we gotta do is continue to push for the movie industry to start using Real, Good, blades, like say something from the Busse Brothers. smile

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/23/15 06:16 PM

I would love to see them show up in the store again. I had a deregulator but let it go, dumb mistake.

Yeah I can't wait to see the movie as well
Posted By: banana-clip

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/25/15 01:09 PM

I wouldn't mind seeing them come back, but with something different. Just like someone mentioned, saw teeth on the back. Usable saw teeth on about 2/3 of the back leaving 1/3 of the front of the blade so you can baton with. Tan handle with camo blade would be cool.

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/25/15 08:04 PM

I would certainly like to see the Regulator come back. It's become my Busse Grail knife, especially now I've managed to snag a Dogfather.

So please Dan, for those of us who weren't around the first time, re-release the Regulator. Or the Deregulator!
Posted By: gun dog

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/25/15 09:01 PM

I'd love a sr77 dog father! Awesome snag! I've got 3 regs now. One original and two hollow ground with the bronze coating.

What's the difference between the regulator and deregulator? I searched bladeforum with no avail

Thanks Klink

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/29/15 06:13 PM

Does that make the Deregulator more useful? I know that a lot of folks complain about the top guard on the R6 and maybe the TGLB, so I was thinking that the Deregulator may be a better choice. I do like the look of the top guard though!
Posted By: Private Klink

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/29/15 08:34 PM

Simply a matter of personal preference. wink I like the De-Regulator more myself, but to each his own. Different strokes for different folks! grin

The top guard is usefull.

I like it also the way it is---and I hate my TGLB

I have a Regulator, but I find myself wishing that it was a De-Reg.

Randy, I cut off the top piece of one of my Regulator style handles with my Cold Steel Voyager XL pocketknife. It's easy! grin

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/31/15 05:12 AM

I've thought about that more than once Tom, and If I still had the Other Regulator I might do it. But I reckon I'll just keep this one the way Dan made it, UNLESS I really start using it hard.
Posted By: feederle

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/31/15 07:06 AM

Why should it be any better DE-regulated?
Posted By: Private Klink

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/31/15 07:24 AM

A little easier to choke up on the blade and better able to guide it with your thumb supporting. wink
Posted By: feederle

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/31/15 07:25 AM

Well I have never seen me using it for any bushcrafting - to be honest I just like to hold it in my hand smile
Posted By: SkunkHunter

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/31/15 07:25 AM

YUP what Tom said PLUS if you hold it in an Ice Pick grip and lay the spine along your forearm it will lay a lot flatter.
Posted By: Private Klink

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/31/15 07:27 AM

Another good point, especially if you use the reverse-grip style of knife fighting. grin
Posted By: feederle

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/31/15 07:27 AM

check!
Posted By: SkunkHunter

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/31/15 07:28 AM

That grip is Great for blocking as well.
Posted By: SkunkHunter

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/31/15 07:29 AM

Just make sure it is laying along the muscle, NOT on the bone! If it's on your bone and you use it to block a strike it WILL hurt!

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/31/15 09:14 AM

Sorry, it's all a bunch of useless nonsense built to take your money. IMO. If you carry any knife for self defense, you're not carrying enough ammo. I love my knives, don't get me wrong. But I'd be just as likely to look to jab a ballpoint in someone's eyeballs as pull a knife if I was unarmed. Being able to pull a knife fast is great.. if you're within arm's reach of the bad guy.

Ninja videos are great... entertainment.
Posted By: Grog

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/31/15 09:15 AM

Knives cut stuff, build stuff, do useful things. If you're relying on a knife for defense or offense you've done messed up.
Posted By: SkunkHunter

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/31/15 09:22 AM

Grog, yup. BUT sometimes you can't carry a firearm in certain places. Having a knife is better than not having anything. I personally have ended an altercation before it started just by having a knife suddenly appear in my hand. Are there better choices, YOU BET. BUT having something besides bare hands does give you a one up at times.
Posted By: SkunkHunter

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/31/15 09:31 AM

To me, a knife is a backup to your firearm AND your mind and feet. Meaning that IF you are in a corner and can't extricate yourself in ANY other way, and grave harm or death is looming on the horizon for you, then you go to steel.
Posted By: Grog

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/31/15 09:39 AM

No doubt, it's all about the mind set. I give no [censored] what I have to use, I'll shove someone's prosthetic leg through an [censored]'s eye if I have to. I just feel that a knife is way down the totem pole as an offensive option. I'll probably bite someone's ear off before I cut them there.
Posted By: Grog

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/31/15 09:40 AM

After enough "what would you do" options.. I think the hardback spine to a book is one of the deadliest things around.
Posted By: SkunkHunter

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/31/15 09:43 AM

Yup, virtually anything can function as a weapon if needed. AND usually the bigger the better! Unless the only BIG option you have is a 500 pound block of concrete. grin
Posted By: Private Klink

Re: Return of the REGULATOR - 10/31/15 03:33 PM

I believe that martial arts training strengthens the mindset. When using a "deadly weapon"...gun, knife, etc. you had better be able to prove that you were in a life-threatening situation. Whatever the outcome, lawyers will ruin your life. smirk

..... so if you eliminate a firearm what else should one carry ?

I should also state that I have seen many people killed and incapacitated (in person)with edged and pointed weapons, I have a great deal of respect for both in a close confines attack/defence. Also understanding how to use a edged/pointed weapon in an offensive manner MUCH better equips you to defeat the same if you are so attacked. It WILL be bloody.
