#1 Mudder (like on the Scrapper 5 ... which I wish you'd re-release)
#2 Basic (like on the 711)

Re: Your Favorite Scrap Yard Handle - 02/07/20 06:27 PM

My least favorite were the War Dog and Regulator handles.

If the "basic" type came in two sizes that would be nice. A "small" for 5" and less and a "large" for 6" and over ... it would "balance" the knife.

Still love the Mudder the best. The Scrapper 5 was my first Bussekin (during the original release) and is still my favorite. Sadly I've given all of them away ... BRING BACK THE S5!!!!!!

Oh, and the Yard Keeper ... that little guy was super practical.

The "basic" is a great "general purpose" handle while the "mudder" is nice for smaller knives.

Admittedly, the only War Dog experience I have was during a very short lived test (someone loaned me one for an evaluation, but asked for it back 24 hours after I received the knife so I had very little personal experience with it). Perhaps I misjudged in my haste.

Larger (Regulator type) offering on the larger (working blades like the Chophouse knives, you know, choppers) knives, WITHOUT the top "guard", depending on the intended use of the knife.

711 type/size on knives 6 inches or larger (fighter type or multi use blades)

Mudder handle on knives 5 inches or smaller. (I personally think that a larger Mudder handle would be nice on the larger knives as well, but it WOULD need to be LARGER and really hand filling.

On a personal note, I wonder if a Dregulator handle could be made to fit a Chophouse lean cut?

Muddier, basic, regulator

Re: Your Favorite Scrap Yard Handle - 02/09/20 03:19 AM

The large basic muddier, and war dog. I’d love to see what a large blade with the regulator handle would be like though. I feel like that could become a favorite.

Re: Your Favorite Scrap Yard Handle - 02/09/20 03:23 AM

Mike, I think that an appropriate Mudder handle (about the size of the Regulator handle) would be GREAT on "Da Choppas" as Arnie would say. That downward bend toward the lanyard loop would only help to keep it in your hand as you do your best Paul Bunyan swing. Maybe Dan could start a side business Putting different handles on the Bussekin Knives!

That’s an interesting idea for a handle I like it

At some point I may attempt to calculate the results and post the winners.

Thought I’d use the following system to score the selections ...

First place gets 3 points
Second place gets 2 points
Third place gets 1 point

Most points = favorite
Second highest = second favorite
Lowest points = third place

Re: Your Favorite Scrap Yard Handle - 02/09/20 01:12 PM

THE RESULTS

Mudder = 16 points
Basic (in all sizes) = 16 points
Regulator = 6 points
War Dog = 3 points

Re: Your Favorite Scrap Yard Handle - 02/09/20 01:18 PM

Dan,
Based upon the results how hard would it be to offer the same knife model with the option of a Mudder or Basic handle? I ASSuME they could have the same tang length so the pommel rivet would align.

Just a thought.

EDIT: just waking up and still in a brain fog. Mudder didn’t use a rivet so maybe my idea wouldn’t work (if the basic tang is too long to fit in a Mudder).

Re: Your Favorite Scrap Yard Handle - 02/23/20 04:53 AM

Hi! I'm the same guy as on BladeForums with this name.

It's a great question Dan – thank you for asking. Here's my vote:

1 = Basic handle (new style)
2 = Regulator handle (rank would be 1 for larger knives)
3 = Mudder handle

My first experience with a Regulator handle was on the AR 9.5, and I'm glad I ordered one! On heavy knives, this handle definitely gives more control. I'm guessing the 1311 would feel better with a Regulator handle (by "better" I mean the user would have more control of the relatively heavy blade). I have a BB13CG, and a Regulator handle would definitely feel better, especially with all of the forward weight.

I'm glad the site is up & running again; I'll try to hang out here more often.

Re: Your Favorite Scrap Yard Handle - 02/24/20 01:49 AM

Basic for a 6 inch or larger blade
Mudder 5 inch or smaller thinner blades

Re: Your Favorite Scrap Yard Handle - 02/24/20 04:53 PM

1) Large Basic
2) Large Basic
3) Large Basic

That said, a couple tweaks to the Regulator and Mudder handle designs could easily put them in the running. A 1/4" longer Large Basic wouldn't be bad either.

War Dog on a nice thin filleting knife in Elmax...

Re: Your Favorite Scrap Yard Handle - 02/25/20 11:44 PM

I just went in and grabbed my 511 and Yeah, the handle on it is just a tad to small. Probably the basic would give a lot better purchase on the blade and also provide for a more comfortable grip specially over extended sessions of use.

The Elmax fillet' knife sounds like a great idea. wink

Re: Your Favorite Scrap Yard Handle - 02/26/20 07:40 PM

Stick a "mini mudder" handle on a 3/16" thick SR101 Active Duty or Leaner Meaner and you'd have one heck of a knife.

Re: Your Favorite Scrap Yard Handle - 02/27/20 06:02 AM

I like your Leaner Meaner idea Gary.
