I have the 511, scrapper 6 ( not really a SURVIVAL KNIFE) Nice to have though, Scrapper 5, 411 And The mud mutt. I tend to lean toward the 511. It’s more like the blade shape I grew up with in the mid 60’s into ‘74 when I went into the Air Force. But if I had to grab one without thought it would probably be the S5. The sharper point of the 511 would have me worried in a survival situation. I feel the “spear point” shape would be more robust.

I’m spoiled my 511 is the military over run so it’s full flat grind helps to thin it out but it still needs the shoulder bumped back a little.

I think mine is as well. Got mine at a REALLY good price!

The only “11” series I don’t have is the 1111. Kinda heavy so I probably wouldn’t carry it so the only reason to have one would be to have the whole set. Mamma needs new shoes, so…

My 911 has been my primary user, brush clearing, batoning, fire starting, trail maintenance, heck it’s a decent thrower and it takes it and asks for more.

I agree with you Tom and Mike. My 911 is my most used larger blade. I reserve the 1311 for brush clearing most of the time. Don’t know why I don’t use my thin cut Chop House seeings how I really like that blade shape/size.

We got a foot of snow overnight.. oh joy

Hey dawgs. Snowin here today. Actually supposed to get up to maybe 2 inches. If we do it will be our biggest snow in two winters.

We received about 1/2" of snow, but the temp as I type is 14 degrees and still dropping. On the plus side, I received my new 5,000 watt pure sine wave power inverter.

Our new water heater went out early last week. The parts finally came in. You never know how much you miss hot water until you don't have it.

Other than that I drove down to Pocatello and took the runt out for Sushi. Deep-Fried sushi is a thing. The fish is still raw. Not too shabby. Plus I got some shopping done at a wholesale place.

I'm hoping we get a few more good snow storms here and North of here. Our reservoirs are down to nothing. We need a far higher than normal snowpack this winter to stave off a drought next summer.

She made some weak excuse that she still wasn’t fully recovered from catching Covid and paid some kids to do the shoveling. Man, I think she’s going to milk this Covid for a long time.

the time and cost of sourcing another upper. I’ve love a carry handle upper though

I get that, I tore down a flat top upper once upon a time just to change out to a carry handle upper, it was a fine project that one time.

My buddy just sourced me a new 20in FNH government profile barrel with pinned front sight for $200. So instead of spending $200 on putting fixed BUIS on one of my other uppers I’m just going to spend $400 on a completed irons dedicated upper.

I have the CS Steel tiger fixed blade one as well. Large “combat” blade as it is to large to hide but would work as part of a “fighting” kit. I actually like it.

All my “backup” blades are Emerson with the wave feature. Strong, sturdy dependable knives. The backup backup is now a Benchmade bailout That I’ve “modified” by removing all the grip screws and that stupid lanyard loop. I’ve replaced them with anodized titanium screws and backspacer (gets rid of the lanyard loop). On our digital kitchen scales, it now as modified weighs 2.2oz. It feels a lot better in my hand now and also better balanced than it was. It will be carried “next to the skin” in various places.

No, I’m NOT paranoid, just cautious.

Mike, a lot of folks speak highly of the Fox K’bits. It personally I like the feel of the Emerson better. It that’s just me.
My FAVORITE K’bit is the ARK. Active Response Knife. You can’t find one. I contacted te designer/maker and he graciously gave me a set. Live blade and Trainer.

Gun, reload, pocket knife, flashlight, keys, POM mace, wallet. While I’d like another defensive oriented blade it’s kinda difficult to conceal and go add weight. To an already heavy edc.

I've only gotten down to 25 dps, the apex is established though.
Strong dislike for G10, but this was one of those grab bag knives.

Hey they aren’t breaking the law.... until they do snd it’s to late. Part of why I went ahead and got suppressors. I google guns. I shoot competition, I talk to gun folks, I have a CCW, I buy hunting license. I’m already on their lists so I might as well protect my ears and my family’s ears and enjoy quite pews and the advantages they bring if there is a social problem. I broke the wiener dog out for kitchen duty last night. I got it used and it was butter knife sharp got it work able with stones when I got it 9 years go but now I need to reprofile the primary bevel. The work sharp KO edition I have does a decent job but I really don’t like the convex edge on smaller knives. I want another sharpener.

Thanks Ray, I am a Becker fan. I’ve liked SYKCO for years but didn’t get one till very recently. The Res C handle is a game changer, never felt a more comfortable handle.

Interesting thing. The short height combined with the thickness and curve means my work sharp KO won’t sharpen 1/2 of the blade.

The DF is pretty hard to find, how do you like the Work Sharp? I use the mouse pad/sand paper method. I get pretty good results. I wasted too much money on sharpening stones.

I’ve been really happy with it. Practice on a junk knife snd then go to town. The wiener dog is the first knife I’ve struggled to sharpen. I like to use stones as well but the KO Work sharp comes out when I need to sharpen something and don’t have time for stones. I’ve found I’d like to have a more precise V grind option though for some of my 4in and smaller blades.

Just got back from a a trip to Parhumph Nevada to help my Dad and his Wife. She had a stroke last Sunday and it didn't look good.

She had nothing less than a miraculous recovery.

Fuel prices are putting a dent in a lot of things for me. I'm in a very rural area. So when I need something I drive.

We had snow for a brief time this morning but it all melted. I just came in from being outside with my dogs and now there are some random snowflakes falling. We're supposed to get 2" to 5" of snow in the next couple of days, but later next week it will be in the 70's.

Evening Yard,

It was a beautiful day here. We had to skip a day trip because they delivered a new stove today. It's nice to have an oven again. The last stove was newer but kept breaking the same thing every 5 months.

So we stuck around the house repotted seedlings and planted some raspberry and black berry bushes. Then we went on a nice walk by the river and some ponds.

Morning yard. Just got Tiger back from the vet..poor guy broke a tooth other day and looks like another few teeth need to go aswell. Aside from that and some potential seasonal allergies he's a pretty good looking old boy !! They were quite happy with what they saw, hopefully the blood work and urine etc come back healthy also so we can get this stinky breath gone asap

I'm going to put slime in the mower tires this year. Goatheads blew into the yard and those suckers pop tires.

It should work. My mower tires are the same low pressure turf tires. Slime just seals minor punctures. My local ranch supply had about 5 different sizes of it depending on what you were putting it in.

I literally pulled a piece out of the pile that was knotted more than not. And told bushy .. lets try and [censored] this thing up and bend it. Came out true eveytime, threw it a few times, it's a keeper forsure forever now.

Hiking in to the cabin up the snowbanks the side of the mountain with my tnt in its cardboard sheath in hand sketchy as F reminded me what an idiot I am for not picking a nice one up from Mr. Brown .. next paycheck I'll have to send a message . It needs a over the shoulder sling setup of sorts

We are at 162% of our annual snow pack for my area. Not so much because we got a lot of snow but we got some snow and it's been cool enough in the mountains above us to not melt as much.

If we get enough rain the drought may not be as bad as we thought this summer.

True, Fires are our main concern here. That and if a drought hits French fries and beer are going to get expensive. Potatoes and Barley are the money crops here. Wheat is a distant third.

Thanks folks! I remember my parents' 25th anniversary. Their friends threw them a surprise party. 30-40 people celebrating their marriage, tons of good food (the friends who threw the party were from Taiwan and the wife really knows how to cook!).

Our 25th? Lisa took our 2nd oldest out to get a suit. I got home at 6:45 and had to scrub out the grill after a long, wet winter. Lisa got home at 8. I grilled steak while she did laundry and made a salad. Two kids were asleep by the time food was on the table and we could only wake one
We ate at 9:30 and had leftover cake my oldest made for Mother's Day (chocolate cake drowned in caramel sauce and sweetened condensed milk, and covered in chill whip and crashed candy bars; i had a very very small piece since it was basically s block of sugar and oil. Lisa and I filled the dishwasher and went to bed. OK, she went to sleep and I slipped into a diabetic coma..

Gotta admit. Not exactly an evening of romance, a fantastic celebration of our marriage, or a night to remember.

She asked that I not get her anything since we now have two kids in college and she's not into gifts... I'm too tired these days to argue. I had planned to order the Dirty Trick as a present to myself (my wife is not big into giving gifts either) after I figured out 3-4 guns I could sell to pay for it AND plan something nice to do for Lisa AND give her a pile of cash to help alleviate her stress over college. By the time I saw the last call they were gone

Gotta read emails more often. I couldn't have missed it by more than an hour

I guess that will be not money towards tuition

Somehow, I don't my wife will complain

I had a busy day. It was sunny and 78.

The girl child had a few friends over so I grilled them some lunch. Then I assembled a couple more raised planters and shovel/mixed in 30 square feet of dirt into each one.

I need to pick up another 30 feet of soil to fill 20 gallon grow bags. Zucchini, yellow squash, winter squash and a couple watermelons for those. Plus a bunch of 5 gallon buckets for taters.

I should be set.

We’ve talked about some 5 gal buckets for maters but Patty isn’t actually supposed to have them. Matter of fact, there isn’t really many to many foods she can have (that she will eat). We’re real hopeful that when she sees her Gastro Dr next week he can tell her there are more than 5 or 6 different types of food she can eat.

They have 350 acres for sale right next to that. But that's just outside of Jackson Hole/ Grand Teton National Park. I'm betting that the property is going for well North of a million an acre.

I use something similar. They are like a stock tank without a bottom. About 3 feet wide and 6 feet long. I use 20 gallon grow bags and plenty of 5 gallon buckets. They do surprisingly well and you can get several seasons out of the grow bags.

I'm going to try and get 3 more of the bottomless tanks in the spring. They make weeding and watering way easier.
