For me, it is the Mojos.

In addition to the jungle tamers how about some smaller more precise knifes with real nasty edges somewhere in the 3"-6" range. A nice 3.5" inch that could be carried anywhere. Might be a companion blade to the jungle tamer.

Re: What do you want? - 09/10/06 08:52 PM

Hello all,
The Mojos would rock, but I think it would be a waste of resources to release the most extravagant model in the most wallet friendly line of the Busse family.
Having said that, I want 3.5" fixed, 3.5" folding, and damnit get back in the dumpster and bring us some INFI, before the Res-C runs out.

Re: What do you want? - 09/10/06 08:55 PM

It's actually quite difficult to say! Since certain steels each have their 'niche'... For the SR77 steel, well, I would take advantage of it via a big'o choppa!!! I don't know any of the names, but I can imagine a name like: Mad Dog 9, or something?!

Re: What do you want? - 09/10/06 08:57 PM

I've ALWAYS wanted a Bog Dog!!! If SYKW comes out with a 4in drop-point in Busse's 1/8in thick D2 steel and wraps a mudder grip around it, well... I'll be one [censored] happy pup!!!

what I want - 09/10/06 09:20 PM

Don't get me wrong I have nothing against the bigger blades, I just don't have use for them myself, and even less for a collectable knife that sells for the prices these sell for. These prices are screaming user, and loudly. As far as names go I think there is only one name for a female dog, and when they froth at the mouth they are "Mad" or got "Rabies" the fun to be had here is endless.

Re: What do you want? - 09/11/06 11:12 PM

i think it's really pretty simple.

busse has the FBM going.

SRKW needs to do the howler or ratweiler next.

SYKCO needs to do the scrapper 9 or mojobull next (big mojo).

It just occured to me (maybe this has been said I dunno)

How about a high impact S77 HAWK?! I can see it now... no building could withstand the abuse one single Scrapyard Hawk (Scuawk?) could inflict... no mention was ever made of the bad guys.

I have been wanting another hawk for a long time... and those OTHER makes like the Rats and Hogs keep flirting with the idea... maybe Scrapyard should step up and give us what we want!

Re: what I want - 09/12/06 05:28 AM

I would like to see a 11" bowie with green blade and black micarta handles. I also like the name MADDOG, reminds me of a Veitnam vet, I believe his name was Jerry shriver.
Posted By: Private Klink

Re: what I want - 09/12/06 05:57 AM

Squirrel - Jerry Shriver was a Special Forces legend, according to Major John Plaster in his book "SOG - The Secret Wars of America's Commandos in VietNam". It was said that he was about the closest thing to a real-life Rambo, and had been dubbed "Mad Dog" by Hanoi. Quite a tribute, and a terrible loss to American SOG.
Posted By: Rabid Squirrel

Re: what I want - 09/12/06 06:05 AM

MAD DOG was the man. Sadly there is not much info on him. After they declassified some of his missions, there were not many people alive who remembered them. I usually don't claim people as hero's but I would have to say he is one of my hero's. He also coined the phrase "I got them where I want them, surrounded from the inside". You gotta love his attitude!

Fusion Battle(War?) Dog? MOAD? A big chopper for sure.
Posted By: Private Klink

Re: What do you want? - 09/21/06 05:15 AM

Hello BlondieStomp and Welcome! Seems like the Yard will need to come up with some names different from the Swamp. When you consider all the different breeds, there is a lot to choose from. The Wolfhound, Great Dane, Spitz, and Malamute just to name a few larger ones, and smaller breeds for smaller knives. A lot to work with there! Tom

Posted By: Private Klink

Re: What do you want? - 09/22/06 01:31 AM

GF - Anatolian Shepherd Dogs are used to protect flocks of sheep from wolves, in several European and Asian countries. He is considered one of the giant breeds, and looks like a German Shepherd crossed with a Mastiff. Awesome dogs! Tom

Re: What do you want? - 09/22/06 01:41 AM

You have one? My folks used to raise them. They ranged from around 115(females) to the largest male we had was close to 170! Huge animals. Not rare, but really uncommon here.

I want a Scrap Yard copy of the Camp Tramp. I love my Scrapper but Ive always like the blade style of the Tramp.
Posted By: Private Klink

Re: What do you want? - 09/22/06 04:13 AM

No, I have never had an Anatolian - the closest dog in that size range would have been my 165# Malamute years ago.
Last month our 11 year old Rottweiler/Lab cross died - he was probably the best dog we have ever owned.

Anyway, I would love to have an Anatolian around our place.
Posted By: Private Klink

Re: What do you want? - 09/22/06 04:18 AM

YardDawg - I have always liked my Camp Tramps but felt they needed a more pointed tip instead of being "bull-nosed". The Ontario Rat-7 has the blade shape/point that I thought the Tramps should have. I really like the way the Yard shaped the Scrapper's blade and tip. Just my preference. Tom

Re: What do you want? - 09/23/06 12:08 AM

Posted By: Private Klink

Re: What do you want? - 09/23/06 01:26 AM

Gf - I have a Rat-7 in D2 and really like it. Not the chopper like a Tramp, but a good knife anyway.

Do your folks still have an Anatolian? I would imagine that pups are pretty expensive, when you can find them. They would be a great home security dog for we who live in the boonies. I pity the poor creature who crosses one!

Re: What do you want? - 09/23/06 04:05 AM

It is a badge of honor for one to where a spiked collar in Turkey they are only given this after they kill their first wolf. Unfortunatly they no longer have any, after 18 years of having large dogs they went to smaller breeds. Depending on lineage of the Dog the pups generally sell for 500-1200. We had folks drive in from Texas to buy one, and another person from Maine took one, but she only saw pictures and had him air freighted to her. Our oldest one lived to be 15. It is impressive for a large breed to last that long. I could tell stories all night about those dogs! That is why I want acreage, so it has room to rome!

Re: What do you want? - 09/23/06 01:42 PM

To you and your daughter -- you're welcome! The pup looks like it could be part shepherd. Either way, it will probably grow to be a terrific dog with a little TLC.
Posted By: Gravelface

Re: What do you want? - 09/23/06 03:25 PM

He is about 10-12 lbs. He is a pup, but I think he will be a little guy anyway....my folks raised enough big dogs that I notice a few traits lacking on this one to make me believe he will get larger that 20-25lbs
Posted By: Private Klink

Re: What do you want? - 09/24/06 01:29 AM

Well, although I like big dogs, my constant companion is my old beagle. A smaller dog is probably a better choice for a smaller child anyway. Your treatment and training of the dog will be the telling story.

Yep it's great for the company boses to be in the thick of the forum action, well done Dan and Patti!

Other companies could learn so so much (metallurgy, pricing, communication, warranty) from the dogs!
Posted By: Private Klink

Re: What do you want? - 09/28/06 06:25 PM

Well Paul, I think they have a pretty good handle on things like Metallurgy and Warranty. We just need to work on them on things like their sheath policy, and keeping their prices down. I have watched Swamp Rat, in my opinion, stray from their original "mission statement", and I hope the same thing does not happen here. I have tremendous hope for the Yard, as they have certainly gotten off to a good start ! Tom

Re: What do you want? - 09/28/06 09:18 PM

A very good start, they should be running by years end! I see the point with the sheath issue, they were included at Blade, but if it keeps the price down...so be it. Many of my sheaths are interchangable and I usually don't carry more than 2 6"+ knives on me at any given time.

Posted By: Private Klink

Re: What do you want? - 09/29/06 02:44 AM

The sheath issue for one, rising prices for two, ridiculously long wait times for three, and apparently Quality Control for four (dull edges for that much money). These points might not mean anything to some people, but they do to me. Examples enough ? Keep in mind that I own 2 BattleRats, 3 Camp Tramps (the last one dull), 1 InfiCoot, 1 SAR Rat, and 1 desert Rat. I will praise them when they are right, and criticize them when they are wrong. Seems fair to me, after all I am a paying customer.
Posted By: Gravelface

Re: What do you want? - 09/29/06 02:59 AM

Can hardly blame them for raising the prices...look at what we as a collective pay on the secondary market.....they also eliminated the Res-c for the more expensive micarta...It is hit and miss for the sharpness....I have had some shaving sharp and others rip paper..so I can see your point there. But to ask for something for nothing about the sheaths....to me, it isn't a big deal....besides, they are generally nice sheaths compared to some of the other companies "included" sheaths....I wouldn't go as far as say they strayed, but somethings can be tightened up.....just my 2 cents.
Posted By: Private Klink

Re: What do you want? - 09/29/06 04:24 AM

They raised prices because they switched from Resiprene-C to micarta - why the switch ? They really touted the Res-C on their home page - why not just make micarta an option with an upcharge ? And the idea of making good knives at affordable prices - good when they started out, but now they are out of reach for so many of us "common folks". As far as the secondary market goes, if someone wants to pay too much for a knife because they feel like they just HAVE to have it, well, that's their problem. (Right GF ?)
The dull edges/QC problem speaks for itself. I know they have tried to solve the waiting problem, and hope that they have. And as you know, I feel that a SHEATH knife should be sold with a SHEATH included, not optional.
If you are PAYING for a Cadillac, you shouldn't receive a Chevy engine with it. Same for the knives. Just MY two cents!
Posted By: Gravelface

Re: What do you want? - 09/29/06 04:43 AM

Hey now......whats with the derogatory reference to chevy?!....I agree i like the Res-c more than Micarta....and I will only be purchasing the choppers from SW new line and maybe that Howling Rat ....due to the different handle configuration, but they see people paying 2x what they charge for the original line so the new line may cost 30% more....yeah I can see why someone would expect a sheath with it...but they are still nice sheaths and worth 20 easily.
Posted By: Private Klink

Re: What do you want? - 09/29/06 05:09 AM

I used the analogy with Cadillac/Chevy because it actually occured in the past.
When you go to a restaurant, would you prefer to buy a complete dinner for a set price, or buy the same dinner items ala carte and pay more ? That's the way I look at sheath knives and sheaths. I feel that the cost of a sheath is built into the knife price.
Posted By: Gravelface

Re: What do you want? - 09/29/06 05:21 AM

Once they start cranking out knives, when their profit goes up...they may include a sheath.....Some Swamps included a sheath others didn't. I can see why when somany people go to other sheath makers for something a bit more custom.
Posted By: Private Klink

Re: What do you want? - 09/29/06 06:08 AM

GF - I am quite familiar with the Swamp and its initial offerings. I became a member of the "Rat Patrol" over 4 years ago - my member number is 383, whereas they are now over 2000. I first bought a BattleRat, then a Howling Rat, Camp Tramp, and they all included sheaths. I also bought an InfiCoot, and paid for the optional sheath as the Coot was a SPECIAL RUN. Same for the SAR Rat and the Desert Rat. However, the STANDARD line included sheaths, as I feel they should.

Our customers have told us that they want the best performance at the lowest price. That is why I spend so much time looking through piles of scrap.

To be honest, I have not found left over sheaths that I could throw in on the knife price.

As always, I am on the look out for this type of opportunity and I will continue to do my best for you Dogs.

Please keep me up to speed on what you think is needed as we build this company

Re: What do you want? - 09/29/06 04:05 PM

Everyone has a different opinion on what sheath they want. Instead of charging you for a sheath you dont like, the busse families let you procure your own. I like this stratagy better as it saves money in the long run. Besides it got me into making my own kydex sheaths.
Posted By: Gravelface

Re: What do you want? - 09/29/06 04:38 PM

I agree with you Rabid one.....alot of the folks who buy high end knives wnat high end sheaths....If it saves me money I would opt for not getting a sheath...and like you said...it helped you start making your own!

Re: What do you want? - 09/29/06 11:52 PM

Well, different strokes for different folks! However, I have to admit that I made my own sheath for my Scrapper. It is the "plainest" of plain Janes, not much more than a couple of rectangular pieces of leather cemented together with some spacer pieces in between. Once I find my pack of needles I will drill some tiny holes and stitch the sheath together, along with the leather cement. I made the bottom piece longer so that I could fold it over for a belt loop, then cemented it in place, soon to be stitched also. Not pretty, but functional. It sure holds a great blade!

Re: What do you want? - 09/30/06 12:12 AM

I like the option to buy a decent cheap sheath with your knife (or go to your favorite fitter to order one if you have money to burn...) Of course in Britain sheathless knives (Busse...) are a nightmare! (Unless you are happy paying import duties and shipping a couple of times sending your new toy to get sheathed in the US!!)

Good value knives with cheap optional sheaths, everyone wins!

I still say low prices with optional (low cost) sheaths being available works. Keep up the good work Dan and Patti.

Re: What do you want? - 10/02/06 08:07 AM

I don't expect a sheath with my knives, because I buy quality knives and will usually purchase top quality sheaths as well. The Scrap Yard sheaths are not spectacular, but are easily worth the money. If I wanted a step up, I would get something else.

The knives are good values at their current prices, even without a sheath tacked on. start pricing out other brands of knives that can even come close to competing for comparison. Most production knives have very poor sheaths, to maximize the profits, and the optional sheaths here are at least on par with average or better. They could use a kydex liner that could be molded to the blade, but they are pretty functional.
Posted By: Paul the Brit'

Re: What do you want? - 10/03/06 12:19 AM

My main gripe with optional sheathes is simply that in Britain it is just an expensive nightmare having to send your knife overseas for a fitting! Otherwise I agree with your points RF (some aftermarket non-fitted sheaths do look good ie Spec-ops etc).

Sadly not very many and the few there are know it and charge a lot... It is probably as cheap to send a knife for fitting and buy from the US! It's a cultural thing, guns and knives over here are for eccentrics or criminals... Pity.
