Banned ?

I see today that a member(Dogbert) got an "instant ban"
Can i ask what the criterea is for such a penalty ?

I didn't even realize Dogbert was banned. Must have been pretty serious to warrant that. Usually the mods will give ample warnings, which they may have done. I know Chris and Tom would not do something that drastic without good cause.

Just wondered? I saw another Dog was given a "time out" for asking questions that lots of other Dogs have been asking too????

Generally, I stay out of these things since it's usually none of my business anyway. However, I admit at the risk of getting a time out myself that I was taken aback by that as well. The last time I looked there was nothing in the rules against expecting someone to deliver on their word, or voicing a complaint. However, there apparently is.

I don't recollect Dogbert ever previously crossing any rules ......his last but fatal post was about a CE Satinjack which was particularly nice...hence I am suprised.

Anyway.....Ted's comments may have some truth in them....so I am not going to dwell on this. The older JYD's probably have more latitude to do this.....but if it is a case of restoring confidence in what can be said....some clarification as to how this happened would be good.

Whatever it was, it was on page 2 of the Dog Bowl thread. It looks like Cold One modified it 40 minutes after it was posted to remove it. Northen1 looks to be one of the few (other than the mod(s)) that saw it before it disappeared. My guess is it was WAY beyond the norm to get an instant ban...

it is dan's forum but the mods run it. it woulda hard job, extremely hard with all the stuff that has been going on. they do a good job. one thing to note is that forum by definition is public but this, like most forums is private. you must be a member to particate and you or your posts can be censured.

This is a decently run,family orientated Forum & I'm happy to read evey post & add to some!
Look forward to seeing some steel soon & hopefully no more lost members for whatever reason. This is one of the best forums i've ever posted on ~newbie included.

I would like to thank and praise Coldone and Private Klink for the great job they do do here. I can only imagine how hard things must be for them sometimes. A banning. Being admin on a hunting site, I have done my fare share of it. But mostly from porn <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> & spam. And of course I had to thoroughly checkout all pictures before deleting-em <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Why not just delete the offending post and PM a warning to the offender before banning (unless that was the action taken)?

I don't think you should get a warning for some things.
dogbert obviously wanted to get banned and just wanted to go out in a "blaze of glory", like previously mentioned.

I'm actually curious to why he did it though...
from what I can tell he hadn't been terribly upset with anything.
idk though.

its not my business either but in defense of cold one i'll say this:

a new guy asked what the term "dog bowl" meant.

dogberts answer where the initials B.S. and pretty much accused dan of being full of it.they where harsh,to the point and totally out of left field.maybe he has key board turrets syndrome.

i'm not trying to fan the flames here.its just that it may seem from the outside like the mods where overly harsh but they werent.

i think it was a deliberate case of "suicide by moderator"

Just to reiterate what Tom has said, we take banning & time outs really seriously. It is not something we like doing. Rather it is something that at times much be done.

Folks have received extra chances after sassing the mods, however I draw the line when it is directed at the owner of the company. No one can say that sass in that direction is a good idea! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />
