What do you want for the next knife?

What do you want for the next knife? - 10/05/08 06:01 AM

So what do you really want for the next release?

Re: What do you want for the next knife? - 10/05/08 06:45 AM

I'm still fascinated by the notion of "neckers". So I'll support development on that front. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

In my mind, the ideal neck knife is one that is so stylistic as to seem more like a piece of jewelry than a tool, which would increase its social acceptance a whole lot. A small knife with a thumb-and-first-two-fingers handle seems about right to me, rather than a full handle with a lightening job done on it. When I was looking around at the neck knives available on the market, the majority of them were "tactical" holdout weapons intended to be worn under a shirt. Skeletonized grips, serrated edges, some were even double edged (making them daggers and illegal to carry in many states). Way too aggressive looking to wear outside the shirt in social situations, and if it's not outside your shirt and readily accessible I don't really see the point of having it. I always envisioned the neck knife as being small, light weight, and immediately handy for all the stupid little cutting chores that life throws your way. Not a weapon, holdout or otherwise. If I need a weapon, I think "gun" not "knife". Heck, even "pointy stick" beats "knife" most of the time.

Anyway.

I don't know if our local Mr. Busse would be interested. I think he has shown a measurable fondness for cutlery on the larger end of the scale. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" />

I have plenty of knives in the 3.5 to 4.5 ich range already. My only large knives are my DFLE and the NMFBM. A 7 to 9inch blade would fill a gap for me.

Re: What do you want for the next knife? - 10/05/08 07:07 AM

I voted other, for the simple reason that I'm still hoping to see either a Kukri or Bolo (or both!) come from Dan.

...or a sword <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> I want something BIGger then the DF

Chopweiler style S7.. Noss proved the S6's point was it's main weakness. I'll pass on weaker tipped knives of any size...

Re: What do you want for the next knife? - 10/05/08 02:58 PM

I voted for the 9 but a necker would be cool too. Something simple, slim, light, and useful. Best I've ever come across was the Busse Skeleton Key.

Re: What do you want for the next knife? - 10/05/08 03:37 PM

I think a full flatt ground S7LE would be nice. Dan did say shiny <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> so I'm thinking the next release will be a LE of some variety. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Of coarse I'm also hoping for a SR77 4-5" bottle opener/prybar combo tool with the logo. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I think the S7 would be nice, but what I really would like is a kukri or bolo. I have some nice knives in the 7" size already from Busse. The two SY features that lend themselves best to big choppers are SR77 shock steel and Res C handles. In smaller knives I really like the 154CM. A 4" Mud Puppy would be a great little knife.

Re: What do you want for the next knife? - 10/05/08 04:09 PM

Something big. Like DF big. Ideally, it would be a little bigger than the NMFBM, and Dan could then smirk at all the other Busses, and tell him that HIS is biggest. Dan wins, and we win.

I'm with HD, 4" mud puppy would be nice, or anything with mudder handles.

Re: What do you want for the next knife? - 10/05/08 04:50 PM

I want a big boy, a dog father would be great. Like Chickenplucker, I have plenty in the 3.5 to 4.5 inch range. I also have a Yard Hook (7 inches, right?) and a nice old school Newt Livesay Woo (necker) that serves my purposes. I have way too many folders.

What I need is a big boy chopper. Like Tyger75 said, a Kukri or Bolo would be great also.

That being said, I'll gladly take whatever comes out.

I also went with other. I want something over 10".

We're still talking about knives right? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I voted other, I'd like something akin to a Becker 7 or 9 in stainless.

What ever it is, I hope it comes with a convex edge.

Re: What do you want for the next knife? - 10/05/08 08:37 PM

I'm starting to get to the point where I am not being thrilled by new acquisitions. I'm still collecting, and as commodities that I expect to appreciate over time, they're good. However, I've been missing the spark that differentiates an exercise from an adventure. I'd still like to see a true, basket or bell guard cutlass, but knowing that's not going to happen, I'd like to see a big khukri or bolo -- something totally different to shock me from my malaise.

A Monster Blade!!! - 10/05/08 11:37 PM

A Nuclear Scrapper in SR-77 with a over-sized Res-C stump! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" />

Peace.

Re: A Monster Blade!!! - 10/05/08 11:53 PM

1st choice would be a necker
2nd choice a golok or kukri

Re: A Monster Blade!!! - 10/06/08 02:40 AM

I voted for an s7, but it really doesnt matter to me, as long as Dan doesnt drive them around in the trunk for 6months.

Re: A Monster Blade!!! - 10/06/08 02:59 AM

A four, or five inch tanto to serve as a sharpened prybar with hand shaped ResC. Gotta find a fixed blade replacement for my DD SMF tanto.

Re: A Monster Blade!!! - 10/06/08 05:50 AM

i said s7, but i don't really want it. i guess knifeguy's large mudder gripped nessy would be cool.

Re: Busses are still for sale. - 10/06/08 06:10 AM

I just quit worrying about it some time ago. Busse usually has knives for sale. The Swamp and Scrap Yard are obviously not a high priority at Wauseon. There is no point in hanging around "wishing". I have the one Scrapper I really wanted anyway, the DFLE. There are others who can fill the void left by SYKCO and SRKW and are doing so now. You can't blame Busse for making the more expensive models since they all sell out anyway. Why make a knife that sells for $100 or $200 when you can make one that sells for $300?

Re: Busses are still for sale. - 10/06/08 06:38 AM

Good point Vic, although I suppose it's POSSIBLE that Dan is trying to build an inventory before the next offer. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I suppose the best way to avoid frustration is to enjoy the comraderie of the Yard. After all, there are a lot of terrific and interesting folks here! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I hope everyone is making preps for the upcoming winter - it's just around the corner. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

I love how sad everyone was about the lack of Scrapyard knives and then like a bolt of lightning or a superhero in the nick of time it is
"The SON of DOGFATHER!"

It was also the most voted for although I am quite pleased with the turnout for the 154 Necker.

Re: Busses are still for sale. - 10/09/08 07:40 AM

Definitely a tanto, or a chisel tip knife. Makes perfect sense with S77.
