Stripper DesertJack now with a buddy.

SS4 and a Skookum Bush Tool. The SS4 has been beat on ,reprofiled to a VERY thin zero edge and stripped of coating.

Sheaths.

A mix of users and safe queens.
[Linked Image from i529.photobucket.com]
The top dog DFLE ,I just can't bring myself to use so I may have to sell it to someone who can.
The Barker is nice but is now with Rooikat.
The Busse SH-E looks pretty but is really my go to user. It has a beautiful mirror polish that is not shown to it's best in this photo but since I did the polish I can always fix it again. I love flat ground blades and the heavy Ergo handle makes it very comfy and fast in the hand. The SOD is a hard sell with the SH-E and the one below it the Rosarms SN Bayonet. The SN is about the largest knife I can wear on a belt. It is one of those rare knives that can do it all.
Because it has a slight hollow grind and a lot less belly than the Busse-Kin blades it can handle detail work but it is still just big enough to chop with.
It has the best finish I have ever seen on a production knife. It is actually seen some hard use and still looks like a virgin. It also has a great sheath.
The 119 is more of a fighter and is there mostly because it is something everyone is familiar with for a size reference

I have no users, only princesses and queens!

Re: lets see them users - 10/08/08 06:34 AM

So, users...

my chopweiler got its first use this weekend, but there will be more to come

[Linked Image from i231.photobucket.com]

my DMDC is another heavy user, and I make a hobby of jamming it into crevices and standing on it

[Linked Image from i231.photobucket.com]

my ranger RD7 Afghan has been around the block several times

[Linked Image from i231.photobucket.com]

But I don't think any of my knives can top my RMD in terms of millage. This knife has pryed, chopped, batonned, and sliced for more than a year now. Here it is next to a super-fine waterstone I bought in the oldtown of Kyoto, Japan, from a store that has been in business for nearly 500 years

[Linked Image from i231.photobucket.com]

Here it is next to the only knife that might tie it in terms of heavy use, my RTAK-II

Re: lets see them users - 10/08/08 07:04 AM

I have both collectors and users. And yes, the quality of the materials is one of the aspects of a knife that a collector values.

That aside, I find your arrogant tone both distasteful and offensive, and I know that you knew that would be the case when you wrote your "disclaimer".

Re: lets see them users - 10/08/08 07:15 AM

Though I do not mean to collect, it is just that I have not found the time to use all of what I have. No offense taken, Cloak. It's all good .

Re: lets see them users - 10/08/08 04:30 PM

Almost all mine are users. I have a few safe queens but they are not Bussekin. Most are of the inlaid handle, damasucs MS variety....but thats a differnt story.

Re: lets see them users - 10/08/08 04:42 PM

It is all personal choice, I have both safe queens and users. I love using my knives but some of them, especially the coated Swamp Rats are pretty and although they beg to be used I don't want to rip the coating off.... but that is my choice, I have other blades that fill the rolls of users imho

Re: lets see them users - 10/08/08 04:48 PM

For serious collectors with 100+ knives...it is very hard to put every single one of them to hard use which is their maker's intend...

Very true, i have hundreds and hundreds of knives fixed fold etc and swords. I try to use them all but it gets to where I know what I like and just use that. The rest I keep and rotate.

Re: lets see them users - 10/09/08 02:50 AM

Dear All,

I realize now that my comments above were neither necessary nor courteous. I didn't intend them as actually attacks on anyone's character or personality, but I understand how they were seen as such. What I said was out of line, and I apologize. I'll edit my post immediately. Please, forgive me-- I have so much respect for all of you, and I shouldn't let a bad day of poor judgment excuse rudeness. What you do with your knives isn't my concern and I will be more mindful of that in the future.

Sincerely,
Cloak

Re: lets see them users - 10/09/08 06:20 AM

Thanks gruntinhusbah ,that DJ you sold me is with it's new owner and he LOVES it. I gave him a really good deal because he was a nice young guy who could not afford a Busse-Kin knife otherwise. It was also a great choice for a hard use bush knife.
It cleaned up really well after I stripped it and did a quick polish. There was a nice even hamon and you could really feel the difference in the hard edge.

The Desertjack is one of those few knives that can do big job's with the help of a baton or even just by gripping back on the last bump of the handle. It can also do small detail work and should get some good use while the owner is out moosehunting.

I love refurbishing old beater users.

Re: lets see them users - 10/09/08 07:28 AM

every knife i own is a user.some more than others and not all in the same manner but they all get used.the only knives i havnt used are self defense specific pieces like my Emerson La Griffe carambit.its not exactly the best at batoning or camp chores but would open someone up like they had a zipper built into them or a Dozier K2 that will be used but for skinning deer only.

again,every knife i own is a user and i dont have a family photo of all of'em but here's a few big'uns.

A hammer poll would be most useful in and around the job...
