anyone ever totally wear out the blade coating? - 10/20/08 02:29 AM

anybody ever totally wear out the blade coating? I came pretty close but some coating is still there. I'm wondering how long do you really have to use the knife to totally wear the tough coating off.

Totally wear off as in along the entire blade profile, ricasso included?

well i guess from the front of ricasso since the sharp edge doesn't run there...

no,but i have been really trying to on my ASH-1.

the coating on these busse kin knives is the longest lasting i have ever seen and i just want to see how much use it can take and so far i'm just left frustrated since i use the hell out of it and the coating is still there.

i'm sure if my DFLE had a coating it would be gone by now though.i love that used look when the majority of the coating is rubbed off

The most I've ever seen is Andy's and Dicemans, they got "personality!"

I have a Smith and Wesson SWAT knife that it has been great and I have worn a lot of the coating of it.
Horn Dog is well known for rapid coating removal, but he uses chemicals.

Here's my "worst" one. Kinda funny, this is my most used knife, and I still don't have a proper sheath for it.

Worn blade coatings to me are like worn gun finishes--they are a badge of honor.

Because it IS! It's a well loved, much used knife, and it shows! Keep it up, and your knives might look like that someday. Here's a few more for ya of it:
