Dumpster Mutt?

Dumpster Mutt? - 12/09/08 10:37 PM

Looking to expand my horizons and pick up a smaller blade, the Dumpster Mutt is what I seek. After a few weeks though, I have not heard a peep on the exchange or my other mediums where anyone is selling one. So, for you big dogs out there, toss a pup a bone and point me in a direction of a DM!

Thank you

I was just on the "other" forum, and saw at least three up for sale. I'm on there at least twice a day, perusing through.

I see the DMDC's on there now, the lack of searching and all gave me troubles. I might as well buck up and pay a membership fee, then I would not need to bug you guys!

I was looking for the CG, but we will see.

Thanks guys!

Others may disagree, but I like the newer flat ground DMs much better than the original DM. They are much easier to sharpen and they cut better. That is what a knife is for. They are still plenty strong to use as mini prypars, too.

They are plenty strong for even the most arduous tasks put to them.
Case in point is a thread I just recently posted called "Tough Job" in
which I put my DM (used to be DC, but sanded it ) through a difficult
test.
Cheers

There you have it, proof positive. Just imagine the horror of trying that with an ugly coated saber grind!

Holy crap, BLUEBERRY jam?

I have some bigger knives for prybar action, and this was a hip/camp knife purchase. I was looking and the SRKW RMD as well, but I like this DM beter. The mark ups are just crazy though, meh, No Regrets right? Or what do ya'll say on this forum? lol

Re: Dumpster Mutt? - 12/10/08 12:49 AM

I had to jump on an RMD myself, even after owning two Dumpster Mutts.

I love the DMDCs though. You shouldn't be sad if the DMDC is "all" you can get!

Post "I'll take it!" and NO REGRETS!

Re: Dumpster Mutt? - 12/10/08 12:52 AM

The DM is just a bit more compact and has a thicker blade. But the Ratmandu is as close to perfect as any 5" knife I have used.

Re: Dumpster Mutt? - 12/10/08 12:53 AM

Is there something in the steel with these knives that make all of you...er..us so crazy? What is the total cutting edge on the RMD? I know the DM is just under 5", from what I have read.

Re: Dumpster Mutt? - 12/10/08 12:59 AM

The Ratmandu blade is just a bit longer than the DM. It is 3/16" thick SR101 steel (52-100) that holds a sharp edge very well. The handle fits larger hands better than the DM handles. But I have both and I still like the DMLE and DMDC just fine. The DM is extremely rugged.

If I had to choose, I would take the RMD. The sucker is nice. The Mini Uncle Mojo is also a favorite.

With the SOD coming, and possibly a DF in the near future, I figure I've got
the bases covered.<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Are the middle two blades there the RMD and the DMDC?

Yep. The RMD is not one of the new models, it's a bit older and the one
below it is the DMDC that I modified. Sanded off the Double Cut finish
so that it was nice and shiny, and put a convex edge on it (still trying to
perfect that, but it cuts pretty good now).

Re: Dumpster Mutt? - 12/10/08 06:59 AM

I am thinking about throwing a DMDC and a Yardkeeper on the Exchange. I missed the SOD's. Perhaps when people start getting the black one's in hand I will get motivated.

I was thinking about putting something on the exchange too, but every time I
take something out of the drawer to look at it and see if I can do without it,
I end up using it, then putting it back in the drawer.
It's extremely difficult to part with any of the knives I have. I really like them all.
Their like children.
Only problem is that I seem to want more <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

You will like it. It's a wonderful little knife. Here's mine out on the trail with me.

No worries. These would be my extras. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> I was busy at work and missed the SOD's.
