Who is a NRA member? - 06/17/09 01:36 AM

Alright guys this is real strait forward. Are you a member of the NRA? If not, why aren't you?

Re: Who is a NRA member? - 06/17/09 01:36 AM

Well, I'm a Lifer. I think they stand for and protect the right things.

Also, they sent me an email about even protecting my knife rights. Maybe some of you received this?

Re: Who is a NRA member? - 06/17/09 01:50 AM

I am a proud member of the NRA, and I will always be. I will do what ever it takes to support the right to bear arms. No current President, or government will ever take my freedom to own firearms away. If they think so.....let them come and try!

Re: Who is a NRA member? - 06/17/09 01:54 AM

Nope. I used to be, and stopped paying dues when they started sending me fliers telling me who to vote for in my local elections. Not educating me about the various candidates' stances on the views, but expecting me to blindly follow their instructions like a sheep, when we're talking about elections involving people my father went to high school with, in a town of a couple thousand people.

No thank you.

I respect that the NRA does a lot of good, but I don't vote blindly along the lines laid down by somebody else - if I wanted to be told who to vote for without thinking for myself, I'd be a Democrat or a Republican.

No offense intended towards any NRA members here, but my personal experience with the organization left a sour taste in my mouth.

No offense taken here. I understand, and I applaud you for standing up for your convictions. I also don't agree with some of their tactics either, but I understand and support their main goal of the protecting of our 2ND amendment rights. When you have an organization that's as big as the NRA, not everyone is going to agree of all of their goals. But, I would have to say without a doubt, that if it wasn't for them (us), we would certainly not have the rights that we currently have. Things would be much worse without the NRA. Just something to think about.

Re: Who is a NRA member? - 06/17/09 02:51 AM

I'll let anybody tell me how to vote. That doesn't mean I'll vote that way. I am an Endowment Member of the NRA. Sometimes old Wayne's "The Sky Is Falling" routine gets old, but were it not for the NRA, we would be disarmed by now. I disagreed with NRA support of the instant background check, too. But the good they do far outweighs any of those things. If you value freedom and believe in the Bill of Rights, you belong in the NRA. You don't have to vote the way they tell you. They are single issue for the most part.

Re: Who is a NRA member? - 06/17/09 04:01 AM

I am a member, hope to be a lifer soon. The way I see it I might not agree with the NRA on everything but they do stand up for the 2nd A. I know a guy that was getting hassled by the ATF and he called the NRA for help, and guess what......the ATF left him alone. No charge in the pocket book or in court. Also, they have some decent benefits like firearm coverage, discounts on lodging and rentals, and death ins.

Re: Who is a NRA member? - 06/17/09 05:57 AM

Been a member for one year...about as long as I've been owning SR77 and SR101 blades. I don't care for all of the sales pitches though.

I'm eligible for membership in the AARP, an association for those over 50, and I'll never join because of their liberal causes. But, the NRA has a philosophy that agrees with me!

Re: Who is a NRA member? - 06/17/09 06:49 AM

I joined for one year in the mid-80s; they stiffed me for the hat but did sent a lot of junk mail. I think gun ownership is an important right, but I didn't care for the way the NRA did business.

Re: Who is a NRA member? - 06/17/09 12:45 PM

I became disenchanted with cetain things the NRA was doing. I think they are more prone to play ball....compromise. IMHO they remind me more of a marketing organization... That does not mean I don't think they do good as well, and am happy to see anyone stand up for gun rights. I prefer the GOA, and have cast my support to them.

I am a member on and off. Their last sales call routine did not sit well with me so I have not renewed in a few months. I will end up renewing at some point.

Yeppers, got to be a NRA member..They do us all good. I don't always agree with them 100%, but they are the biggest and bestest fighter for our 2nd rights.

Yup, I'm a member. I had to do the EPL membership. The $1000 cost for a straight life membership was just to much to afford at one time for me and my family. None the less, I will be a full fledged life member soon

Even though I am in the UK I am a member of your NRA....they are the best representation we have for keeping an entitlement to be armed law abiding citizens who can protect themselves if you are in the USA....and engage in shooting as a sport or a hobby with weapons we want to shoot and are not told we cannot shoot...

Over here my taxes will only pay for an investigation into any criminal harm done to me....my rights won't enable me to stop it....at least not by way of being an armed law abiding citizen....protecting your rights makes the most basic of sense....ask Andy!!

SF, I think it is awesome you joined the NRA! Thank you, it is really great to see people put their hard earned money where their mouth is!

Maybe one day we can have good gun laws everywhere.

My Life Membership was 400, from time to time they run specials and they are much more affordable.

Even if they are not perfect, I can not think of ANY OTHER GROUP that does as much for your rights...2nd amendment or otherwise.

I was a junior member before I was a regular member. You can join at any age though for either publication.

Love him or hate him, the Nuge is a heck of a guitar player and at least he is firm on where he stands on all his beliefs. I'd bet even if you don't like his abruptness everyone here would agree with his funamentals.

Better yet Ted Nugent in lieu of Chuck. Heck Chuck has been a strong supporter too! Oddly I believe Bruce Willis is too. Maybe that is why Hollywood gives him a bad wrap.
