Who's planning to do the LardoGanzaaaaa?

Who's planning to do the LardoGanzaaaaa? - 07/27/09 08:59 PM

I think I'll end up sitting this 'ganza out -- again -- my last one was last year's VetDayGanzaaaa. I'm not really into the super-thick knives, which seems to be the theme. Besides which, I ended up buying a pair of white NMSFNOs with hand-shaped black G10 handles and another SS4 this month, so so despite sitting out current releases to recover from last month's spending, I managed to spend more than expected. It didn't help that I also bought a couple computer-related upgrades -- a 64G flash drive and a 24-inch monitor, but a guy's gotta have toys, right?

Anyway, for those who like thick INFI, it looks like their kind of sale. If I was to try for anything that Jerry's putting up, it would probably be a Fat Hammer. That reminds me, I keep meaning to send my competition grade Jack Hammers off to Up-Armored; maybe my next billing cycle.

I love those new handle options but those fatties have a fat price as well.I am going to TRY to hold off for a while and hopefully go to Knob Creek.

Re: Who's planning to do the LardoGanzaaaaa? - 07/27/09 09:33 PM

I dig the looks, but don't see any use for the fatties, so will probably sit this one out.

If he ever does an anorexic knife with the sandstorm or tequila sunrise, I will be a lot more tempted.

Where does one get info about the upcoming ganza?

Re: Who's planning to do the LardoGanzaaaaa? - 07/27/09 09:35 PM

the busse board on bladeforums has a sticky talking about the ganzaa. prices should be posted in the next day or two, and the actual ganzaa happens on wed.

Where can I see pics of what will be offered? Or are those secret until they are offered?

I would love to get a fat hammer and a key lardo blvd. Both in sandstorm, but I have no cash and I need to play catch up with my credit cards...

I would love to get in on this but I think the prices are going to be out of my range. I'm trying to save for Blade West.

I would love to get one of those Fat jackhammers, as I am REALLY happy with my comp. edge JH I bought at Blade last year. But like the MOABs, I'm afraid they will be way beyond my reach. If my Waki arrives tomorrow it will help lighten the sorrow of not participating in the Lardoganza.

No lard for me! I would love to have a fat jack. The sandstorm g10 looks nice but I guess I would go with the CG TB before I tried to snag the FJ.

My plan as well. Maybe I'll buy something from thatmguy at the Indy1500, maybe not. But I WILL be buying SOMETHING at Knob Creek!

Re: Who's planning to do the LardoGanzaaaaa? - 07/28/09 05:37 AM

Does anyone know the dimensions of the MOAB? Wow, that looks like a monster? It looks like a 14" blade. I assume there are some rules to getting in on the Ganza, and the likelyhood of you getting what you want is slim? Man...sweet stuff.
Posted By: MustardMan

Re: Who's planning to do the LardoGanzaaaaa? - 07/28/09 05:41 AM

the blade is just under 14 inches, if I remember right, and it was something like 0.4 inches thick

It's absolutely ridiculous in hand. It feels more like a sledgehammer than a knife.

Re: Who's planning to do the LardoGanzaaaaa? - 07/28/09 07:36 AM

I don't have any use for fatties like listed, can't afford and CAN'T even come close to justifying what the prices will be.

I have a "Mild" interest for Unique fat chunks of steel (to a point), but I can't justify paying those prices for INFI rail-road spikes.

I have my crazy DMCG for a fatty. Good enough.

Personally, I don't care for Rainbow Skittles colors. But, the Black Paper is nice.

Meh..... I have WAKI, S5CG, M9LE, Vex, Regulator.... I am TAPPED. I had to sell a bunch of my extras that I didn't want to sell.

I am glad Jerry is selling things I have no interest in.

Re: Who's planning to do the LardoGanzaaaaa? - 07/28/09 03:10 PM

I LOVE Active Duties, but the fatties just dont interest me. You cant cut well with them and I dont need more railroad spikes. Like others said all that INFI comes with a heavier price than there skinnier counterparts. Now the MOAB yeah I'd love to have that Mucho Grande of a chopper but I KNOW I cant afford it. I am gunning for maybe a Dogfather or a Vex and even then I already have a few DF's. So I dont know, I hate sitting out Ganzaa's but this one doesnt have much I am really wanting.

Could someone who has participated in one of these before please explain briefly how they work? I have never done a Ganza before and just want to know what I am doing when it is time on Wednesday night.

Thanks.

Re: Who's planning to do the LardoGanzaaaaa? - 07/28/09 03:48 PM

Jerry will post specs and pics in advance along with a general starting time, usually between 9:00 and 10:00 PM. He will instruct you how to word your email along with addresses to send it too. When he posts go send your email and it is first come first served. You have probably heard us referencing F5F5F5 in the past, everybody is refreshing their screens waiting on the go signal. This is all done on the Busse forum at Blade forums. Be aware that there will be a lot of fake jerrys trying to fool people as well as bring up threads from old gaanzas and this is all part of the fun. If you shoot off your email early you go to the end of the line.

Here's a description of the 'Ganza process that I wrote about a year ago: How to buy a Busse family knife.

Here's the MOAB announcement (MOAB!!!... Mother Of All That Is Holy!!!!!!... Yowza!!!!), but if you want one, expect to dig deep -- in that same thread, you'll find that they were released for $2197.00 (+ tax) at the last Knob Creek.

[color:"red"]BREAKING NEWS:[/color] The latest announcement is that a limited number of saber-ground tan Dog Fathers will be available, as well as Swamp Rat "Vex" (Vexilarus) and "scalpel"-style HACKs -- LardoGanzaaaaa... Scrap Yard & Swamp Rat Are Coming To Throw Down At The Hoe Down!

I would love the tan DF but I am broke as a joke. No money for steel or sheahts. Oh well, I have got a lot of steel from the Yard and Swamp this summer. You guys have fun and good luck.

Re: Who's planning to do the LardoGanzaaaaa? - 07/28/09 06:37 PM

I'm going to try for at least one, the DF and maybe some others depending on the prices. I've never done a Ganza, are the prices higher or lower than "normal"?

I've always claimed I wasn't interested in a DF, but I'll admit I'm at least tempted to take a shot at one in the ganzaa tonight. I already have a vex, and the fatties don't interest me, so the DF would be my only choice.

I might try for a Vex myself, if I don't forget about the Ganza while I'm working on my Waki sheath. I hope to finish it late tonight.

Re: Who's planning to do the LardoGanzaaaaa? - 07/30/09 12:54 AM

Any guesses as when Jerry will give the Go Go Go? Is it just when he can get into the site or does he wait for a certain time then try? I have looked back at the various Ganza's and the go times seem to be across the board.

When he says emails marked earlier than "GO Time will be put at the end of the list" does that mean sent before then? Or Received before then?

Thanks for any answers. Didn't want to post on BF of Busse site for fear of Hog Trickery.

I'm in too; not that I need more knives, but I want 'em. I requested swamp and yard blades -- the fat BCs were nice and all, but the least expensive was only $5 shy of retail for a black and tan G10-handled NMFBM. I just couldn't do that.

The MOAB looks like a sweet piece of gear but it also has some heavy $$$ on it. And since I love my NMFBM I cannot justify it. Some cool looking blades though

I hope so, too, barrabas. That way, when you work out chopping with both hands, you can build up those muscles symmetrically. Or, you could cut one MOAB up and make 5 or 6 new INFI knives. Just kidding. Good luck.

Clint - So far, I only make leather sheaths for my blades. For my Waki, I am actually making a couple different set-ups. One is a simple "frog" with a belt loop attached, and the other is more of an old time baldric style - essentially a "frog" with a shoulder strap. I might even make a set-up for wearing the Waki on my back.
