Sheath for DogFather

Sheath for DogFather - 08/07/09 01:05 AM

Hi all. New to register, but not new to the forum. I have been reading post here for about 3 months. It's a shame because it lead me to purchase a DMDC then a Scrap MUK then a S5 and now a Dog Father. My question is what type of sheath is the most comfortable/useful for a blade the size of the DF. Also, I noticed that SY sells both a kydex and a nylon sheath for the DF. Does the nylon sheath come with a kydex insert? Also how does it attach to the belt? It's hard to see from the ad. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks

In my opinion, the absolute best sheath for a knife the size of the Dogfather is a Buy Brown open spine design. They make it lightning quick to draw the knife, and weigh less to boot. Awesome design

I have and use the DF sheath Scrapyard sells on their site and it does have the kydex insert and it will attach to your belt too. It will also attach to MOLLE gear as well. Its a good sheath for the money.

Send it to me! It will give me time to fondle your knife uncontrollably and I'll only charge you retail plus shipping. Did I mention I get to fondle your knife...

There are alot of good options from guys who regularly post here. Both kydex and leather. Andy Wayne has a link to alot of them. They are good sheath makers.

Welcome to the Yard Kevlar!

That sounds like a nice collection you've already started, especially the DMDC.

Welcome to the Yard!

the Yard nylon sheath works fine, it attaches by loop,
very secure has the insert and is a good deal.

Welcome to the Yard! The link in my sig has a list of all known sheath makers.

The nylon sheath in the store has a folded clear plastic insert. It attaches to the belt with a nylon loop. Here’s a pic of a similar style sheath for my SRKW M6:

Here’s the sheath I got for my DFLE, from Buy Brown:

I think the most comfortable type for the longer ones is the dangler style:

For comfort I would recommend a leather dangler style. Rainwalker makes great sheaths and if you can wait a few weeks (he is a very busy man) you will not be disappointed.

Welcome to the Yard, kevlar. I like the Corudura sheath for the DF just fine. It carries well and is quite practical. But when the LE came out, I wanted something a little nicer for it. Rainwalker made this one for me.

I ordered the SY Nylon one for the DDF. I have the smaller version which fits the S6 and the YH just fine. It has some kind of insert, kydex or plastic. It also has a handy pocket in the front where I carry a serrated Spydie folder. It could also fit a stone, ferro rod, matches, money, etc. Its a great sheath for the price.

Re: Sheath for DogFather - 08/07/09 08:29 PM

I'm trying to decide on something also for my (coming soon) Desert DF.

LOVE the looks of that beauty HD got from Rainmaker - very nice features and detail! Something like that w/out the tooling and oil up good for outdoor use would be nice.

If I'm going to wear it I don't like them riding up high so prefer the low rider, dangler, drop down styles with leg tie-down capability. I do like the leather Randall/Johnson model C style sheaths.

Not a huge fan of Corudura or nylon type sheaths so far. Have on for my Rat-7 and it is flimsy for drawing / reholstering. However it is light weight which is great for hiking. Something to consider if trekking with a big fatty. Maybe the SY version is better.

If strapping it to a pack, which I sometimes do with a small (12") machete, then open top Kydex I find works well. What do you guys think of the stock DF kydex offered here?

You could also just make your own...

Not nearly as pretty as David's sheaths, but it was fun to make.
