Scrap Yard Loading Error - The connection was rese

Scrap Yard Loading Error - The connection was rese - 09/14/09 05:01 AM

Anyone else having the problem? For the past several days, I try to come here and get an error message that says:

The connection was reset

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I keep hitting reload (sometimes up to 12 times or so) and eventually it will load. I don't think I'm the only one having problems, because someone contacted me and asked if the site was down because they couldn't get on. I suggested to keep reloading and it would eventually work. Anyone else having problems? Any suggestions? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

Re: Scrap Yard Loading Error - The connection was rese - 09/14/09 05:12 AM

I've gotten it a couple times when posting, but most of my weekend was spent installing and configuring software on my new computer, so that's what I attributed it to. I hit refresh and resubmitted and it worked fine, so my issue may be a bit different from your own. Still, it's not the message I used to receive -- it sounds more like a message resulting from a server bounce; perhaps they've been doing some site maintenance.

It's happened to me a few times. Usually reloading the page once will fix it.

I thought maybe it was just me at home on my computer. I don't seem to have any problem from my work computer...

Sure, I know a few probs have popped up from time to time, so I wanted to let everyone know. It doesn't do it all the time, but sometimes I have to reload over a dozen times before it works. One the bookmarked page loads (threads active in last 24 hours) all the links I click to the threads work. Just not the bookmarked page for the active threads.

I have been having loads of trouble....if I want to alter my personal info all I get is "server too busy"....also cannot alter viewing preferences or see the active topics list...is the server on the cusp of being able to cope?

Re: Scrap Yard Loading Error - The connection was rese - 09/24/09 10:07 AM

Still having problems...I just had to reload 13 times before it would load. Find out anything? I'm afraid this could keep new folks away if they have the same problem...

Re: Scrap Yard Loading Error - The connection was rese - 09/24/09 04:11 PM

Yes me too...I have e-mailed Renee about it...I cannot get posts done and registered or pages to open unless the Forum is quiet...keep getting "server to busy" reports or "access denied" from the forum itself...as opposed to a "Windows" type message...it really is such a shame and frustrating when this is my favourite Forum.

Re: Scrap Yard Loading Error - The connection was - 09/24/09 06:15 PM

For whatever it's worth, I'm not experiencing any significant problems and am getting under 2 second response times, both from home and work. I'm not discounting the problems y'all are reporting, just noting that it's not everyone. I'd guess it might be computer, ISP, or regional router specific. Perhaps Scrap Yard's technical support guy can diagnose the issue.

I have problems with accessing the forum aswell. Sometimes it comes right up othertimes I give up because of "system busy"

Re: Scrap Yard Loading Error - The connection was - 09/25/09 04:11 AM

It doesn't always do it. Just now I had to refresh 22 times before it loaded.

Re: Scrap Yard Loading Error - The connection was - 09/26/09 01:03 PM

I guess my best option is to go on line between 9.00am and 12.00pm over here...that's your 3.00am to 6.00am...the quiet times have the forum working reasonably well for me...the busy times and I cannot post and have problems loading or looking at the main post index. I guess I can live around it...if I don't post quickly to a thread I start or answer questions etc...you can understand why... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

Thanks again for the heads up, we have another call into our service provider.

For what its worth I was having trouble until I uploaded some MS fixes for Explorer...seemd to take care of it for me...but who knows...f5 should only be needed when you are trying to get the jump on a deal <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" />

I will let you know what we find out

Re: Scrap Yard Loading Error - The connection was - 10/01/09 01:20 PM

Well I use Explorer as well and funnily enough I only developed this issue after up-loading the latest set of updates...they were supposed to make connections quicker...as to whether they simply now "time me out" rather than enable me to connect quicker I don't know...but I don't have problems on other forums...so I figured it might be just this one or the higher amount of users since the S5LE was released...I don't know...and don't know enough to fix it...I have rang aol my ISP and they say nothing is wrong with my aol programming...it's a bit of a "bummer" not being able to post etc...

Re: Scrap Yard Loading Error - The connection was - 10/01/09 06:13 PM

The last 3 or 4 times I've tried to log on, no go. BUT if I have IE to diagnose the poroblem and then click on either send or don't send, it will go ahead and bring up the ScrayYard! IT's above my paygrade to figure out, but if I gotta do that to log on, No problem, as long as I CAN log on.

Re: Scrap Yard Loading Error - The connection was - 10/01/09 06:19 PM

I'm a Firefox user -- the only time I use IE is to test webapps at work. It's a lot easier to lose a customer than get them back, and Microsoft lost me to Mozilla sometime around late IE4. Then, once it became obvious that mozilla.org was going to concentrate on Firefox and ignore the Mozilla browser, I switched again. My boss (a Mac guy) is quite fond of Safari, but unless/until Firefox goes down some stupid path that drives me away, I'll stick with them.

Those having problems using IE may benefit from trying a different Web browser -- I always install multiple browsers for troubleshooting. If a problem is common to multiple browsers, then it's something else (perhaps a Web site's CSS or page scripting), but if it's browser-specific I can search for browser configuration issues (it may still be CSS or scripting, but a different subset of browser-specific issues). I also test from multiple computers, which can help spot whether it's computer-specific, or an issue related to the browser patch/version.

From my work, both IE (v 8.0.6001.18702) and Firefox (v 3.5.2) running on WinXP Pro (SP3) work fine right now.

Re: Scrap Yard Loading Error - The connection was - 10/02/09 09:40 AM

I just had to reload 13 times before it loaded. I wouldn't think the site would be busy enough to cause this at 3:30 am...

Re: Scrap Yard Loading Error - The connection was - 10/04/09 03:07 AM

I don't have any problem from work, nor do I have any problem with any other website <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />. Oh well, like I said, I just have IE to diagnose the problem, it always says no connection problems and then when I click on close, up comes Scrap Yard! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

We have been on the trail of trying to figure out what is happenig with the system issues you reported.

We discovered a number of things that our hosting company was supposed to be doing for us...and that I paid for, only to find out that they had not been managing the system side of the formula. Unreal, they have recieved a ScrapYard attitude adjustment and they now are doing what they were supposed to be doing all along. Like tune the system, upgrade the system software and so on. I suspect we will see improvements very quickly. Please keep an eye on it and let me know if you continue to see any issues.
