I requested it but didn't get it. Not really a big worry to me, as I only requested it as a novelty, and I'll beat on a knife the same no matter what number is on it. I ended up with 99 (JYD # is 79), so I was probably just a bit too late. I ordered 2-3 minutes after they went up on the site.

I requested my number in the comment section when I ordered my knife, but didn't really expect to get it. Its not that big of a deal. I did order another knife a week before the ordering closed.

Not really. Just open sales to JYDs early to allow them to order their number. But it doesn't matter now. It's over.

I got my #84 but I ordered within the first 2 minutes.

hehehe , i didnt make jyd at the time =) the shipping of the s5le kinda made me push.... next time it comes up if its offered then ill take em up on it....

but in a way i would rather they get the knife out faster so i can play then about the number on the blade.... right now trying to track it down is kinda fun hahaha but i doubt ill find it...

I've deleted the messages I exchanged with another JYD that contained exact times, but from memory I recall that he got in about three minutes of the S5LE hitting the shelves. I got in 32 seconds after #1 (I was already logged in and had verified my profile info while waiting for the GO; all I had to do was put in cart, select profile and enter my CC# -- I don't know how they got in so fast). Renee [and Dan, of course] was kind enough to allow me to request both my number and his. The "natural order" S5LEs I received were 15, 16, and 17. My JYD# is (of course) 60, and the one I received in exchange for his JYD# was 153.

So, within 32 seconds, exclusive of JYD# requests, the count was at least at 17, and in just over 3 minutes, it had reached 153. A LOT of folks were F5-ing for the S5LE release, and low numbers went very fast. I've got my JYD# in the MPLE, BDLE, and S5LE; I missed getting it in the Muk and SoD LE -- that's just the way it is.

I posted before the S5 LE release that it's a mistake to get too wrapped up in the JYD# thing, that will almost inevitably lead to disappointment. I think I read a MM post that he didn't receive his JYD#, but planned to enjoy the S5LE regardless -- that's the attitude you should strive for. When I found out that I couldn't get the SoD LE in my JYD#, I considered canceling it from my order, and I still think of that knife as being the one that broke up "my set" rather than as a fine knife to take pride in owning. Your knife should be much more important than the number; I speak from experience that you'll be happier if you can consider getting your JYD# LE as a minor bonus rather than a significant goal. That's not to say that you shouldn't try for it when you order or trade for it if you can, but you shouldn't let not having your JYD# detract from enjoying a great knife.

To be honest, I real would have liked my JYD# on the S5LE. I don't mind though, as I had to put myself on the back burner for some medical bills/tests/ etc. that decided to raise its nasty head. I am glad someone was abler to get there JYD# though.

No, they only can order their number. Just one knife. Then when it is open to everyone, the usual feeding frenzy chaos would apply.

I asked Renee for mine but I didn't get it, I don't know if I got my order in in time to get it. Not a big deal I ended up with #22.

I have NO interest in paying EXTRA for a number - even if my JYD #.
I would view that as taking advantage of your loyal customers.

Personally, I would rather they KNOCK OFF about $10.00 or so from the LE's to keep costs down (... or $30 - $40 off the price of the S5LE. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />) to just not have NUMBERS at ALL.

Personally, I would rather just have satin finished knives at s reasonable price. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crossfingers.gif" alt="" /> - Dan's LE's aren't typically too over-priced, but with some exceptions. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> - Unfortunately, the S5LE was one of them IMO. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> (The "First" DMLE was another over-priced LE).

I passed on the S5LE because I felt/still feel the price was too high. I like INFI, but I don't feel it is worth so much more than SR-101. Obviously, others (mostly HOGS) disagree, but I KNOW that is the KOOL-AID talking. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

That said, I know not every JYD cares about their number - some JYD's aren't even around anymore. But, there are some who are pretty passionate about getting their number. So, "generally" speaking, I feel it would be "Nice" and help maintain good will if Dan went a little out of his way to help provide the JYD #'s to those who want them. I "could" argue that it is good business to help keep your loyal business patrons happy - And further argue that could easily be more important than trying to feed the HOG FRENZY.

However, my guess is that (unfortunately for Tom and maybe a few others) that certain numbers are so highly desired (like #1), that the first few minutes are a bit of a frenzy to "Get" #1.

Personally, I don't beleive that frenzy drives the actual number of knives sold. It just creates the frenzy in the first minute or so.

People want #1. And some other people will want certain other numbers. Personally, I wouldn't go out of my way to try to provide "other" numbers, but I WOULD try to keep my loyal customers (JYD's) happy and try to provide their numbers...... Otherwise, why have numbers???????

It is either about getting the #1 or about getting your JYD #. I think JYD #'s should trump the frenzy for #1.

But, I have no problem with numbers "if" JYD's who want their numbers get their numbers at a "reasonable" satin finished blade price. The number should just be a "bonus" for JYD's that want it IMO.

To me a small premium would be ok to pay to get my JYD#. If you figure it is 10 bucks a knife, that would more than pay for an employee to pull those knives.

Then again, like stated it doesn't matter because the Boss Dog does it his way.

Im up for any thing that keeps the price and headaches down , and dan making good reasonable priced blades..... and for infi (coolaid included) it was a very reasonable priced chunk of infi with a good finish.... also it wasnt a rail road spike , and a very useful design for me...

I requested and did not get my number, but I was not online immediately when it went up. I ended up with #260. I probably would pay more for my JYD on one knife, but only for the novelty. After that I wouldn't. On a side note I love my S5LE

When there are as many of an LE model sold as there appears to be of this one anything other than your JYD number is irrelevant! Just my .02.

Unless you get #1, which indeed might have additional collector value at some point, the whole JYD numbering discussion is largely about personalization. I don't monogram my shirts, hankies, socks, or underwear so monogramming my knife with my JYD # is not a priority for me. I know others enjoy it and that's fine. Whatever floats your boat.

I did purchase a Kershaw Junk Yard Dog knife with my JYD # engraved on it at one point because I appreciate the novelty of owning a non-SYKCo Junk Yard Dog. (Thanks Bruce)

I can just imagine the blank look I'd get after telling a local that the number on the knife is my JYD #, LOL.

I'm just a HOG in a DOG's Yard here, but I can see why Dan doesn't offer the numbers corresponding to JYD #'s... So far, there's a hundred of you, LOL! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> If I had busted my azz to get in really quick (on the S5, I was only 20-24 seconds behind P-Easy) and was told that I still only managed to score number(s) over 100, I'd be kinda disappointed.
Now, with that said, and now knowing that all you Junk Yard Dogs have shown loyalty to not only the product, but to this Forum by posting 1000+ posts here, I'm sorta surprised that there isn't a run of "JYD LE's" (i.e. JYD #1, JYD #2, etc.) for each Junk Yard Dog to pre-order ONE with their corresponding number, and then, of course, the regular LE run for everyone to go after. It's the difference of just lasing 3 letters in front of the number. Not to tell Dan how to do his job (not my place, as ya know!), but this is just an idea where y'all would get your numbers, and the rest of us wouldn't be shut out of any number under three digits. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Even though I am very new to this knife thing, as a business owner there is a bit of respect to those buying my products, especially when their patronage is continual, with that said, The JYD's are loyal, support the business, and publicize for the company, this is a real advantage for a company to solicit new business and keep a following.
Showing a little respect to the Dogs would only increase sales and loyalty, (but those who want to try to get early numbers, stay at the website till the sale is on deserves something too). I think there should be some sort of member program, something similar to this...

(Also to note, as a dang Libra, I see the disadvantages to this program too!)

A Member Program: To have a Dogs number on it...
1) You must be a DOG member.
2) As a member, Dogs are issued one knife from each series (and variants) automatically billed/charged. (if Dogs want more they will have to order them separately).
3) As a member you are required to buy 12 months worth of series.
4) Removing yourself from the member program prevents you from enrolling again for a year. Being forcefully removed by the Dog Master, permanently kicks you out of the program.( You don't bite your Master! )

I am sure this needs to be tweaked a bit, but you get the jest.

Now another variation to this would be an additional series of the production knives especially for the Dogs and with a different marking system... Ex JYD # 25... This would be ideal as not to discourage non members from getting an early numbered knife when F5'ing the website for the sale to begin.

I pretty much knew how things were going to go being that the S5LE's are INFI. I figured that there would be a lot of very seasoned Hogs anxious to grab up a bunch of these, making getting the lower numbers much more difficult.

I think we, me included, put a lot more significance into our JYD numbers than there really is, to the powers that be. It would be nice if a way could be found to honor the loyalty of the JYD's and their numbers, I can see how it does cause challenges too though.

I still would be nice to see "Loyal" SCKCO customers and "Proud" JYD's have an opportunity to get their numbers somehow to help show their continued support and enthusiasm for the Yard. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

First, I want to thank P-Easy for trading his #1 knife with me - he will end up with #124.
Secondly, I thank KnifeGuy and others for wanting to see me get my JYD #1 when knives are released.

I understand and appreciate the desire to get the #1 knife, as I would want it even if it was not my JYD number. It adds to the uniqueness and collectability for sure. However, I am MORE interested in maintaining harmony in the Scrap Yard than getting the #1 blades. The knife is a singular thing, whereas the Yard is a Brotherhood - a group thing. If someone receives the #1 blade and wants to keep it - so be it, with no hard feelings. I will not allow petty jealously to overtake my enjoyment of the Brotherhood of the Yard and all the great fellow Dogs here! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I'm not a JYD, however I think JYDs should benefit from their dedication to Scrap Yard by being offered their LE #. Those guys who were there supporting the company in the beginning will otherwise never get their JYD#.

As a new JYD, I would love to be able to get my # if I wanted it.

Actually, after further thought I am AGAINST what I wrote. For example, what's going to happen when there is, let's say 500 JYDs and only 300 LE knives made. Now what's going to happen? I know what I'd do: it goes on Ebay the minute I reserved it. And, every one else would lose out, JYD or not.

I know I have my JYD# on my MPLE thanks to Snotpig. It was way cool of him to hook me up on the JYD#. I offered my MUK up to the JYD whose number it was but he has not been active here since before I became a member. I tried contacting him through here and having others contact him but it was a no go deal--so I use my MUK now. If the JYD ever contacts me I would trade him in a heartbeat if he has one or can get me a MUK in replacement because I love it so much.

I did'nt request my number....first come first served is fine by me....or no numbers at all which might be better....it's the knife that counts...I got 318 but if I had a JYD's No they could have it...
