Congrats on the new faster Mistress. Still not as fast as a DFLE or M9LE, but fast.

Vic, any chance of a chop off comparing the BWM and the DFLE? I am still undecided on this knife...I rather think I have this area covered...but would be interested to know how those two perform?
Steel Fan, do you have any idea how the Black Jack magnum camp will act as a chopper? On light stuff 1-1 1/2 inches it does ok, but have not tried it out on thicker stuff. Have been using the Beast for that.

Also waiting for the chop off from Vic...
I know this is not in any way a serious comparison but I picked up a DFLE which turned up yesterday. I had some fun this morning playing with the DFLE and a FBMLE.
Even though there is no getting around the extra splitting power that the extra weight the FBMLE gives it didn't take that much more to get the job done with the DFLE. And I don't have a hot spot on the inside of my thumb.
Simply much more usable and comfortable for me.
Yep, the Fusion handles are some of the least comfortable handles I've ever used.
The SY Res-C are some of the MOST comfortable. No competition whatsoever in that department.

I'm sure I'll get around to it. But I am biased when it comes to choppers. I like the DFLE best no matter what out chops it! It is light, rugged, beautiful, and comfortable to use. What else could you want in a chopper?

I'll stick with the DFLE any day . Matter of fact- I like all the SY LE knives the best. Maybe- with the exception of the S5LE. Then- I have a hell of a time deciding if the INFI outperforms the 101 and am doubtful about that. Or.........at least how i use them I can't see any differance

I have checked out the knife and it looks to be a good choice...it is 440C stainless and the design is by Jerry Fisk and with an 8 inch blade should be fine as a chopper...when I first joined here I posted about knives I had owned and used in the past and one which I used a lot was a Blackjack Marauder which like SY knives came with a Res C handle...here is a pic of the knife...
It also was 440C steel and mine was not double edged as the one above but single with a flat spine...now that was a great chopper with a 9 inch Bolo blade and I gave it to the son of a friend who was going into our Para Regiment.
I had used this for a long time...I got it after having a Khukri I picked up in the Falklands stolen off my belt webbing...and can vouch for the quality of their knives...mine came with a great razor sharp edge...and could hold it well. You should have no problem with yours....it is a good knife...

Yes I agree, I love the DFLE and my Basic 9 which is slightly smaller, they are both around 16/17oz's and work so well in the light-weight catagory I am not sure I would go for the BWM if given the choice between the two as it is slightly heavier at around 22 oz's...if I want a heavier knife than the DFLE I tend to go straight for a thinned down NMFBM...which probably gets the most use of all my large choppers...that and a Hossum...both are in the 12 inch longer blade size which I prefer and the Hossum again is only 17oz's...maybe I will hang on and see if a NMBWM is done with a longer blade...it is getting to the point now where I find it hard to pick from what I have and they all work so well it gets rather confusing as to what to chose...
The thing I keep telling myself though is I nearly did'nt get a CG NMFBM or a CG NMSFNO until right at the last minute and if I am honest I probably like the weight and feel of them better than many...
Anyone know the weight of the Bushwacker CG?
It's not on their site.

Re: BWM - 01/07/10 12:32 AM
The weight has been said to be 22 oz....maybe 21oz if you stripped it...
Thanks! Just trying to compare it to some other blades.

I have one of the made in Japan versions of the Blackjack Grunt and those handles are awesome eh, definitely one of the most comfortable handles I have ever used !!!!

Re: BWM - 01/08/10 02:58 AM
Yes, their handle material is really comfortable....the similarity to the Yard's Res C is what brought me here...

Re: BWM - 01/08/10 09:24 PM
Well, I feel a little silly, but just placed an order 3 more BWMs. I could be wrong, but I think there'll be a lot of demand for BWMs after they're no longer available. The economy and season have pushed people away from what amounts to a SHBM for $347 (+ shipping) who'd normally be all over it.

Re: BWM - 01/08/10 09:31 PM
As high as Busses often are, I ordered another BWM, too. It may be the most expensive camp machete ever made, but as big Busses go, it is reasonable. Whatever others may think of the knife, I like it better than any Mistress I have seen or used. In keeping with the minimalist theme of the BWM, I ordered another 10" Cordura sheath for it from SYKCo. Like the DFLE before it, folks will regret not getting one of these fine choppers.
I agree with you Vic - the BWM is a great knife! Folks who pass it by WILL regret their decision later.
How long does Busse leave their knives up for?
I just need three more days
love enough to get your money ready.... short enough to close when you got it ready
love enough to get your money ready.... short enough to close when you got it ready
Thats what I'm worried about, that day they close it. NOOOOOOOOOO!

Got a green and tan one in today.
I'm leaving this one painted. Got a ghetto satin one already.
Looking good Vic!!!

Re: BWM - 01/09/10 08:04 PM
Thanks, Tom. It's a very rare thing for me to buy two of the same model Busse, but this BWM is my kind of chopper.
I'm only going to have the one - grey/black - but it is one heck of a knife! I carry the BWM on occasion, but never the NMFBM.

I received notice that my second order has shipped. That was less than a week -- they're moving 'em out of the shop pretty quick.

Re: BWM - 01/15/10 09:36 AM
Well, I caved a few days ago and ordered. I don't need it, but I came to the yard a couple years ago because I thought I needed a SHBM. This knife might be as close as I'll ever get. Anyway, went with Tan and Sage. I pulled the Tan/Sage RMD out of the safe and remembered that I like that combo. Probably should have gone Tan/Muddy - a little more contrast might have been nice...
Now you'll have a matched pair.Cool and congrats.

I really don't spend much time on the Busse site at BF, but I think Amy will give you at least a few days notice on them stopping a knife. If your close, I imagine you're good...
