Regulators just arrived :) - 03/20/10 07:20 PM

My two regulators with sheaths just arrived. Great looking knives that feel good in the hand. Thought the blade would be longer for some reason but def underestimated the thickness...overall beautiful great feeling knives that were an absolute bargain!

??? mine are all numbered as above- are yours sterile ? The sheats are EXCELLENT . Great buy- now I am going to test them against my TT versions. I am VERY PLEASED I have both models . Quite a differance IMO. Further testing needed- but just holding the two seems way different to me- how about you guys ?

Maybe that is it- I don't really know . I can tell you they are SWEEEEEET ! and one hell of a deal . Hey- are we allowed to talk about these ? I remember I couldn't say anything about the other TT version- so don't want anybody upset with me fer sure .I started to express my first impressions about one against the other- but I will wait for the green light so I don't get in hot water . I WILL say- that if ya haven't ordered you better get on it REAL fast as thes knives are classics . Thanks SY one hell of a knife and one great deal

Yep- that is a FACT Joe- I just confirmed. Without the extra writing- it is LIGHTER- so- naturaly the heaveier one chops better . I just walked back in from outside where I was comparing. I can say there is a BIG differnace- BUT - BOTH are absolutely AWESOME knives .I didn't think they would be that different- but they sure are IMO . All three of the TT Regs are dirty and once the others get here they will be too.

I got charged first round and if they are numbering by invoice # mine will be in my hand soon.

I just got mine too. There is a huge difference between the test team version and the mil bowie.

Is it just me or the sheath really hard to lock up? the first button was impossible to tighten with one hand O.o.

Re: Regulators just arrived :) - 03/20/10 11:51 PM

The sheath is very tough to snap/unsnap yes. But I think that may have been the point. Honestly, I think unless you were actively parachuting or something that the sheath can do without the velcro. In a military setting I'd almost consider it a liability because of the noise factor when taking the knife out.

However, that being said the sheath itself is amazing and I'm simply trying to offer some criticism on it, not bashing it whatsoever. I really like it, particularly for the price I got it at!
Posted By: KENKEN

Re: Regulators just arrived :) - 03/20/10 11:57 PM

The mil version is a bit more blade heavy than the Test team. That usually means a better chopper but I can not say for certain since I didn't take the mil version out of the house yet. The spine is nicely rounded unlike the TT. I'm also digging the new logo .

The sheath is very nice for the $$ too! I hope Dan can offer sheaths like this from now on with his knives!

My two Reg's arrived today, but aren't numbered. Did anyone determine why some are numbered and some are not?

Re: Regulators just arrived :) - 03/21/10 07:46 AM

The new Reg is a bit blade heavy making it a better chopper for sure. With that being said-the original TT is a much better fighter and better balanced. The sheath fits both versions with no problem and if you work the snaps a bit they do break in. For camp chores the new one has a slight edge- but as a pure fighter or a defense knife to carry in the rig I will keep my original .If a guy was wanting to buy just one- I really can't say as i am not in that postion. I would say with the very limited runs of the original that prices are going to go up for guys seeking a fighter/ defense type of blade . On the other hand- at 100 bucks with sheath I would suggest that if you haven't ordered one best get on it while these are still in the store . These two knives in SR101 are going to be classics for sure . I will give a few more opinions after I have bashed on the new one like I did one of my old version . Keep in mind- these are merely MY opinions and i don't know a hell of a bunch -Thanks

I've always wondered what a pure fighter is? and if someone was attacking me wouldn't I want to chop him? If I had my choice I would walk around with a Dog Father

But really what is a pure fighter? In Los Angeles for a number of years the number one weapon used to attack people were box cutters!! I'ld use ANYTHING to deal with a maniac like that

Also this is out of curiosity (I am a newbie) not criticism

You can rest assured that all THREE Regs will chop . I was merely stating my OPINION mostly as to BALANCE and how " fast in hand" the original Reg was as compared to the new ones. This being a Mil overun-I can imagine that the military is indeed using these in combat situations . Here is a description of a Bowie Fighter and I must say that the Reg ceratinly meets this description IMO http://www.historicarkansas.org/knife_gallery/ .Yes- if someone was coming at me with a box cutter -I would not really like to use ANY knife- but if I had to- the Reg is one heck of a defense knife. Of course so is the handgun that I carry in my rig here in Oregon . That may not be the case in LA ? Not sure of the laws. Keep in mind- this is merely MY OPINION of the Regs. One heck of a knife I must say at a great price whichever model you prefer. I like both versions so I have several of each. Thanks

I was under the impression that if you got the discount for the Reg. you had a agreement not to sell for a certain amount of time and the Regulators would be numbered if you got the discount....However I do not work for Scrap Yard but I had asked Renee about this when they were released because I was thinking about getting one for my brother in law who is in the military.

But remember I do not work for Scrap Yard so I might be wrong.

That might very well be it. I did get them at discount (well, one of them...still waiting on refund for the other one) with my military ID and trust me when I say I have zero intention of selling either of these even after the year is up. They are going to be heavy duty users this summer when I take my brothers-in-law camping
