I only remember the Muk LE, I don't recall a coated version.

it was 154CM and satin finish.

Right you are, WD. An interesting factoid about the Scrap Muk is that it holds the record for the shortest run in the history of the new business plan. Scrap Muks were available for sale in the company store for only 3 weeks before they were pulled. They probably have the distinction of being the rarest of all Scrap Yard knives released under the new business plan.

That's a pity becuse it is truely a great knife!
Let's hope for another incarnation of it!
Maybe in !

I can only speculate as to why the Scrap Muk was pulled early, ssb. Perhaps they didn't sell that well. Or perhaps they gave way to production of what probably became Dan's best selling knife ever . . . the Scrapper 5. One way or the other, I wouldn't expect to see another Muk design produced by Scrap Yard for a very long time . . . if ever.
True, the next Muk release is likely to come from Busse.

What are the differences between Scrap Muk and Scrap Muk LE?
The Muk is not numbered, and has a black Mudder grip.
The Muk L.E. is numbered, and has a silver-gray Mudder grip.

The Bird Dog was also produced in a non-L.E. version, too. Unlike the non-L.E. Muk, it is sans the 154 CM etch.

I've never heard Dan differentiate a Muk from a Muk LE regardless of handle color or imprint. All Muks are limited editions as are all Bird Dogs.
If that's the case, why are any of them numbered at all?

Quote
(Bird Dogs are even more limited than Muks in that they were never released, i.e., sold through the company store.)
Even though Bird Dogs weren't sold through the company store, that fact alone doesn't quantify the number produced. Only actual production numbers can support how limited a model truly is.

wouldn't the wiener dog be the lowest production knife in the scrapyard family? it being a ganzaa only knife and sold out very fast at that.

just to brag i got one of each of the 154cm knives produced save the mud puppy.(muk, bird dog, wiener dog)

Nope. A "production" knife is one that was released, i.e., sold through the company store . . . or at least that's how I define a "production" knife.
All of these knives were in fact produced and released.

It's only the availability; the when, where, and how that differs.
If obtained at a knife show, through the company store, or via a Ganza, all HAD to be produced and released to be sold.

i maybe spliting hairs here by i always thought a production knife was when more than one was produced. but like you said ymmv.

as for the truth of the matter the only one who really knows how many of each knfe was produced and which one is the rarest, is dan, and i'm quite happy with that.

as the policman said move along, there's nothing to see here.

The LE has a number and a gray handle. Otherwise, they are the same.

I was a bit confused. I had researched the difference and could only find the Muk LE. Now by no means am I criticizing or trying to tell the Busse's how to run what seems to me a very, very successful business with a loyal and considerate following, myself included; but in my experience a limited edition has been offered after the release of the original model. Thanks again to everyone for clearing this up for me. I want a Muk or Muk LE.
Dot D - That's a beauty of a sheath, who made it?

IIRC, some were and some weren't. It depended on whether your JYD number was available when Renee received your order. And as always, it was easier to get your JYD number if it was Number 62 than if it was Number 6, for instance.
As Bruce noted, you could request your JYD # so long as it was higher than the number(s) you'd receive by sequential processing of orders. So, if you would have gotten #6, you could have substituted #62, but if you would have gotten #62, you couldn't get #6 (because it was allocated to an earlier order already).

DoD's sheath looks like it was probably made by Jeff Law (Rainwalker). He's a favorite at this forum -- that doesn't mean that others don't do great work too, but Jeff's one of us (JYD #35).
