Our special project, code named S C I Z Z Y is a GO!!!!

The Scrapizashi is set to take the BLADE Show by storm!!!! They will be available for pre-order in Atlanta at a very special introductory BLADE Show price.

The Scrapizashi will bring a new performance to price ratio that has yet to be seen in any wakizashi.

This will be our first venture away from the Resiprene C handles. If all goes well, you may see more of these resin-coated, hand wrapped handles on future models. Resiprene C will always be in our line, but we can achieve a new level of versatility in design and manufacturing with these heavily armored, hand-wrapped handles. This versatility will allow us to bring many more diverse models in smaller runs to the Yard in short order.

Actually, I have always been interested in a sword, however, the challenges seemed to present an un-do-able situation. The abilty to maintain the Performance to Price Ratio is always the varaiable.

Very interested to start a discussion topic on this. To date, I had looked at Res-C (and associated hidden tang) as something that would simplify designs, not hamper it. I'm totally in love with it!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" /> I have been looking into Waki's, Ruck's and AK's but NONE are as sweet as this!!!

My guess is that making an expensive custom mold for the Res-C handle drives up the per-unit cost of a blade, unless they can spread that cost over a large product run, like a big military order. Cord-wrapped will help on the price-performance ratio for lower volume runs.

I was thinking completely opposite. As an example, take the regulator handles. Once designed and mold formed, assuming you could keep the tang design as a "constant", it seems like you could now use the same on this blade (as an example...not saying I would prefer it). Then you could end up utilizing one mold across multiple designs and spreading the costs even further. Whereas...a wrap continues to incur either machine / human time for production, and would seem more expensive to me. I guess it really comes down to volume...and I don't have insight to the SYKCO numbers to begin calculating it out.

I definitely think you're right. For pretty much anything in the 2-6 inch blade range, the mudders will just be great though. I just wish Dan would sell us mudders in different colors.

I think it may have to do with a res-c handle with a hidden tang and only one tube fastener being able to withstand the amount of stress a blade of that size and weight would cause on the handle

With a full tang like that, it should be pretty straight forward to add micarta/g-10 handles if someone wanted.

I'd like to see a magnum regulator handle on it.
That cord wrap has to be time consuming to apply & therefore more expensive.And I don't see it being as durable as Res-c either.Or having the shock absorption.I do see the Res-c getting hot in the hand if using it like a samari/ninja,for an extended period,but how many of us are really going to use it like that.I would just use it as a chopper myself.

I would love to see one with res-c handles for a bit more $, but hey I think I may have to have one. I came real close to getting a waki but had trouble spending that much money on something I didn't really need. With this now I'm becoming a bit more needy. I guess this means the Scrap Axe is next

We did a lot of work to ensure that the handle did not hurt as you say. The handle is not soft, but more of a firm feel as well as we slightly swelled the handle to better fit the hand.

I have heard that fiberglass like that used in skateboards was used for battle scene prop sword handles. It was wrapped around the tang and then covered with leather or wood. The fiberglass absorbed the shock and stopped the tang from breaking when two metal swords clashed hard.

I have strange feelings inside...I want one!

I'm pretty confident that since they are taking pre-orders at Blade, they will surely offer pre-orders to the rest of the Dogs as well. The only difference will be the great Blade discount, which we will not see.

From a business perspective, if they haven't made them yet and only have pre-orders...it makes no sense to not take in additional pre-orders (when you know there's a conglomerate of Dogs who didn't make it to Blade), since it will only drive your margins up with each additional pre-order since you can scale production. It would be the equivalent of turning down guaranteed sales when you have the capacity to manufacture as many as needed.

It would be different if they ran a production run of 100, and then would need to tool up / etc to get another production run completed. However, as far as we know...Dan may already have the blanks produced (ala: show samples), so there may be a limit already set and they could use feedback from Blade to determine if they go full production or keep it small.

Well, I did promise my wife that I would not buy anymore knives this year. Guess it is a Scrapizashi then, it's a sword not a knife.

But we need specs and prices, and please transfer the blade rebate to all those unfortunate souls that live on the other side of the world and could not make it to Blade.

It's an excuse, I agree it is not a very good one but you have to start somewhere and work from there. I mean I could argue the zombicalypse around the corner but my guess is, it wouldn't go over well with my rather "rational" wife.

I ordered a Rodent Waki a few days ago, but if SY can offer these inexpensively enough ($250?), I'm definitely in for one, too.

What would be extra cool, would be for Dan to steal a march on his sibling companies, and offer a Scrappy Kat. (24" blade, 12" handle katana)

I agree that a longer Kantana would be cool. However the waki length may well be perfect for two bladed martial arts practice such as Kali.......on Zombies.
By the way have we seen the specs yet on this blade?

Blade show pre-order was $287 (my memory is bad but it was very close to that price).

They are 289.00 at the A G Russell show too.
