Hey Tag, how are the handles on that one, like the ones at the show or a little different
Posted By: tagati

Re: who has their scrapzashis? - 07/20/10 03:22 AM

Jrod, hard to call. All I can say is that I wasn't entirely sure at the show about the handles but when they turned up today I really liked them. They give ever so slightly and are very positive to hold.

I've still got my Gladius outstanding, so I haven't been hit quite so hard yet. Thanks again, especially for that one -- there's sure a big difference between the Blade show price and retail on those Gladius LEs.

Tagati...great pics & score!

Would it be too much to ask for you to place your Regulator on top of the Scrapizashi and snap a pic with the Res-C handle lined up just behind the guard on the Sracpizashi?

I'm still daydreaming about ordering a Zashi...ordering an extra Reg Handle (if Dan would sell me one)....grinding down the Zashi handle to the Regulator profile, and slipping the Reg Handle on for a mean little Ruck'ish Zashi.

can anyone tell me if they offered the different colors at blade for the handle wrap or is black/black it?

I was tempted to do that with a DF and a reg handle, but it won't work cause the reg is much thicker, it will swim in the handle, unless you fill it with epoxy, which would probally shatter under the vibrations, Res-c also can't handle the twisting and torque a blade the length of the skizzy would put on the handle

that's what Dan told us at blade, he said they tried to and tested several different resc handles but they twist to much, I guess they just don't work on a blade that length

Re: who has their scrapzashis? - 07/20/10 11:07 PM

Just got mine At a quick look,

The handle feels real nice having just a little bit of give with plenty of room for two hands. The balance is good with the COG at the front of the choil. Overall it looks like it can take a lot of punishment

Cool...first I've seen anyone post on that comment. It's interesting to me. I had originally thought that a longer (2-hand) piece of res-c would work best with multiple rivets down the length of the shaft (similar to most of the busse micarta handles). You would think this might counter any rotational flexing...but perhaps it doesn't.

Thanks for the info Jared!

Will any different blade colors be available once the store opens up the ScrapiZashi's? Would love to see an OD handle / Sage blade combo.

Well, I picked mine up at the PO this morning on my day off, and I hate to say it but I'm a bit disappointed in the quality control. At the beginning of the wrapped handle portion there are white marks. Very noticeable on the logo side not as much on the other side but still some discoloration.

Re: who has their scrapzashis? - 07/23/10 07:36 PM

Could that be from the cardboard sleeve?
Posted By: Jroden5446

Re: who has their scrapzashis? - 07/23/10 07:42 PM

Maybe excess resin from the wrap?
Posted By: skorpyd

Re: who has their scrapzashis? - 07/23/10 09:34 PM

The cardboard sleeve is a suspect, as upon closer inspection it is crushed a bit in that area. The marks don't want to come off by scratching with my fingernail. Maybe just use a black felt marker.

Mine came the same way. I have not been able to clean the white stuff off the handle yet.

Re: who has their scrapzashis? - 07/24/10 04:47 PM

Sounds like the resin wasn't quite set when the cardboard was slid on for shipping. Either that....OR, it's possible that the resin softens up a bit in the extreme heat of the summer, in the back of a USPS truck...and then the cardboard adheres to it a bit when it re-hardens. Other thoughts?

Re: who has their scrapzashis? - 07/24/10 06:53 PM

You might be right Ishi --- I was surprised at how strong the resin smelled when I first opened my package with my Scizzy.

Re: who has their scrapzashis? - 07/24/10 08:09 PM

Mine had a few white spots too, but they seemed to come off fairly easily. As hot as it's been, It's not really that surprising to me. The resin helps to give the handle a good grip.

Very interesting. As I understand it, the handle isn't covered under warranty. I wonder how Dan will respond to this?

I was wondering the same thing. I personally bought my scrappy as a investment. The fact that the handle is discolored lowers the value.

Re: who has their scrapzashis? - 07/26/10 05:47 AM

Mine don't have the problem, but I suspect a Q-tip dipped in acetone would clean up the residue.

I don't know, Jim. Knowing that the Scrapizashi handle isn't covered under warranty, I'd be reluctant to put a solvent anywhere near it. But that's just me.

I don't think I would be too concerned about using Acetone on a q-tip, in a very controlled manner. However, I do recognize that I don't have one in hand to compare the job to...and that a person could go overboard with such a task.

I suppose if you went too far...you could just throw some syrup on it

When I get mine, if I decide to add micarta slabs, I'll test different chemicals on the wrap to see if it effects it

I'm doing a ratweiler first with smooth micarta and smooth bolts, then I may move on to the skizzy depending on if I dislike the wrap, I will probally satin it either way

I guess my feeling where the handle is concerned is that, if I'm actually going to buy a Scrapizashi to use rather than just hang on a wall, I should add the cost of rehandling it to its overall purchase price. After all, there's a reason why a manufacturer with the stature of the Bussekin won't warranty an aspect of one of its products. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time that's ever happened.

Adding the $50 rehandle cost (plus shipping) to the price of the Scrapizashi puts me in Waki territory. If I spend a few more dollars and buy the Waki, I get the famous Busse stem-to-stern warranty. So I don't have to worry about using it. And I get a better alloy in the process.

That's just my thinking, of course. YMMV.

I think everyone understands the position. This is why I had asked about the possibility of a no wrap offering...but that got nixed by the top Dog. I'm going to lay silent on this, and see how it plays out.
