Anyone get gifted anything cool? Nothing here on my end! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sad.gif" alt="" />

I did gift a swiss army trekker (which looks pretty nice) and a big old blade for my brothers tuna fishing...

I didn't luck out either, RN. Then again...kindof hard for the wife / family to figure out the Bussekin business model in order to pull off such a fantastic feat.

I got exactly what I wanted this year....SOTech Mission Go Bag (for the woods) and a nice 100lb Punching Bag (for the flab / stress).

Hope you and yours had a great one! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Re: Holiday knives? - 12/26/10 10:03 PM

oooo heavy bag...that's nice!

yeah, I'm in the same boat with family and knives. A common refrain from my wife is "I don't know what knife you would want."

I certainly can't be complaining though- a spyderco endura and Fiddleback for my b-day last month!

Curious about other folk's toys though!

Re: Holiday knives? - 12/26/10 10:16 PM

I got a SOD and sheath (but it was in Oct) it was my Christmas though. BUT the grandbaby got me a combo browning night seeker pack and her Mommy and Daddy (my stepson) got me a leatherman fuse.

I feel as If I did ok, and am really happy. I was looking for a small folder and a multitool. Now my look is over.

I got a Carbon V Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri from the Camillus auction for Christmas! It'll hold me over until we get one from the yard.

I hope to receive the Busse Custom Shop Bowie this next week -- I pre-ordered back in July, and the Swamp's RatManDeux LE in another week or so. However, the BEST gift was word that I have a new grandchild on the way! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Thanks Randy, but I already have a couple of canes! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif" alt="" /> Remember - I sprained my knee back in August, right after the A.G. Russell show in Arkansas. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

That is the best news one can ever receive !!We are 8 grand babies and counting <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />. Our family had well over 40 for dinner last night and i enjoyed each and every minute. We lost one in a terrible ( drinking related) accident in September- so the value of new babies is beyond words for me. Not my direct son- but just as bad as I helped raise him. As for gifts- the family figured I had way too many knives <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />so purchased my wife and i a romantic 5 day getaway before we depart for the Caribbean in mid January for a month <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />. I hope you were all blessed with family also. A BIG congrats Tom an the new child-Happy New Year

Well Bob, you can send some of your knives to me, thereby creating room for some new ones for you! Just trying to be helpful. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Re: Holiday knives? - 12/26/10 11:44 PM

I got a couple Kershaws (S30V Blur and a Rainbow Leek) for myself over the past month or so. But the best was my father in law opened his safe and handed me an old Camillus Navy MkII (Kabar type) and told me Merry Christmas!

Re: Holiday knives? - 12/26/10 11:48 PM

I almost forgot, I also got a Kershaw G10 Offset.

Congratulations on the grandchild, Tom!

You have too many too <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />!! I actually gifted several knives this year to son- in-laws- sons- and grandkids. I am going through that stage where I am not buying if I am not using. I have different knives for just about everything I do- but I still have too many just like many of you <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />. Maybe a guy just can't have too many knives- guns or flashlights <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Re: Holiday knives? - 12/27/10 12:20 AM

I didn't get any as presents, but I bought a few Moras (three 2010s and a couple bushcrafter triflexes -- no good reason, just because) as well as a Smatchet by Forged in Time and a MMHW (Ted Frizzell) Combat Cleaver in the month leading up to Christmas. I'm waiting for a 154CM SS4 release; perhaps soon??

Then told me when spring comes i need to use it to remove the giant vine thing that has infiltrated our perimeter and is killing our trees in the back yard.
Good ole girl, everything with a purpose <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Re: Holiday knives? - 12/27/10 05:03 AM

Nothing here for me, but I do have a RMDLE coming my way and I do have to figure a way to pay for my Bowie. I guess that the knife and gun thing is covered as most of my family know I go for what I want. I did get a copy of the Gun Digest for 2010 which has some great articles and a box of ./45-70 shells from my dad.

Ish, I have a couple of SO Tech IFAK kits. Great gear!

The closet thing to a knife that I received was a Smith's "Tri Hone" kit.

Randy - story of my life! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/loopy.gif" alt="" />

I'm not sure if its a good sharpener or not, but since I do a pretty POOR job of sharpening anyway....I thought "why not try one of these". <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crossfingers.gif" alt="" />

Arch, stones like that been serving people well for thousands of years, so there must be something to them! Next best thing is diamond hones. THAT is why I have never used my setup like the one you got. BUT I did use stones like that for 4 decades!

Re: Holiday knives? - 12/28/10 12:55 AM

I have a story to tell.
My one nephew is 13 and is a good kid.
He is really into this game where you can buy figures and game pieces for it.
We only have one store locally that sells the pieces, the guy had told us that his order was coming in Dec 23rd (my nephew already had the pieces he had in stock).
We show up about 1/2 hour before closing on the 23rd to be told the order didn't arrive.
We come back on the 24th to find the store closed.
My wife and I had looked for another gift since the 23rd but were unable to find one, so we decided to give him money (I hate giving or receiving money).
I had been teasing my nephew for a while that I was going to get him something educational for Christmas because of his grades.
I went to a couple of dollar stores looking for a cheap educational toy like a bug zoo to give him as a joke with the money inside.
Couldn't find one, so I settled on this $1.50 boonie hat with a zipper pocket in the side. I placed the money in the pocket with a note that said please open.
I placed the hat in a little box with the price tag showing (and the pocket/note)
When my nephew opened the box he saw the CHEAP HAT and $1.50 price tag, he didn't notice the open me tag. He just put on a smile and said thank you uncle Bill like it was something he really wanted.
Unless you knew the kid you couldn't tell he was disappointed, I then told him to open the pocket, well the $30 inside really made him smile.

As his uncle I knew he was a good kid, but to be honest he surprised me with the way he reacted to the gag gift.

Just as big, tough, and heavy. Just as fast to open. I like the blade shape of the 0200 better. Half the price.

Re: Holiday knives? - 12/29/10 06:34 AM

Thing is, I like a big knife, like 3.5" to 5" blades. So the slimmer, lighter ones get carried more. Of all my knives, my favorite folders for EDC are Voyager, Rat Trap, Dejavoo, and Al Mar SERE Auto. But the big beefy ones have their place, too. I just don't normally carry them in town. Who knows why I have so many unnecessary knives? I guess that's why I hang out on knife forums.
